  1. But Palmer had 22 wins, almost a half run lower in ERA and a lower whip Nolan Ryan never winning a Cy Young is one of those "oh yea? how bout that...." things but there are pitchers who had better seasons in every year he pitched
  2. I think most people are 3 for 3
  3. Welcome to TalkSox.....read the rest of the thread first next time
  4. I love how someone voted for Lincecum in the poll at the top of the page AFTER the news came out that he won
  5. nice, voters got it right
  6. The only thing that prevents him from being probably the best player in baseball is his questionable defensive ability
  7. I guess he makes for a hell of a trade chip too considering he only makes ridiculously reasonable $11.6 mil a year
  8. he'll be 30 when the contract expires and he will only have sacrificed like what? 2 years of eligible free agency? a 6-year, $70 million deal is probably better than arbitration every year. thats the only logic I can see, he'd be the face of the franchise almost anywhere else he want
  9. god knows why Hanley signed long-term there...
  10. That tells me he doesn't want to move his family and he wants to stay with the Sox. It can be argued that he'd reconsider if there was an awesome job out there but there really isn't.
  11. Giambi?
  12. Looks like Farrell is staying for sure
  13. I think James just foresees a dropoff for Lester due to the fact that he pitched some many more innings than in any of his past seasons
  14. there's a remote possibility for anything. theres a remote possibility that the Orioles could be better than the Sox in 2009 but anyone with a decent knowledge of baseball would say the Angels are still a much better team than the A's otherwise everyone in this thread would be saying what a good move this is for Oakland instead of the "huh?"s we're getting
  15. Yea, the race gets closer, like the Angels win the divison by 12 instead of 21 Scot Shields... Arredondo steps in as the closer and someone will step up for the 7th just as the Angels always seem to do
  16. You really think the As + Holliday are better than the Angels - Teixeira?
  17. very shrewd move by Beane, but Oakland's park could seriously put a dent in the free agent haul Holliday wouldve gotten He'll probably be moved by the deadline anyway
  18. I've never really understood the hype with Salty. Granted, I haven't seen him play a whole lot but looking at his career stats, they aren't anything special, minors included aside from a nice OBP. And if there's a growing feeling that he's so bad as a catcher that he projects as a first baseman, the that concerns me even more.
  19. This is the product of what happens when a brother and sister pro-create. http://icanhascheezburger.files.wordpress.com/2007/11/funny-pictures-bird-cat-cage.jpg
  20. theyre 1-7 dude, why the hell would they play for overtime?
  21. Interesting to hear him be so candid on the subject, to be honest. Texas gave up Mark friggin' Teixeira for him little more than a year ago, they're gonna demand a king's random for Salty
  22. http://bostondirtdogs.boston.com/BDD_DP_gold_11.07.08_FG.jpg
  23. Biggio had some ridiculous years in his prime, just look at his 1998 season: .325 AVG, .403 OBP, 24 HRs, 88 RBIs and 50 SBs Pedroia could potentially match all of those with the exception of the 50 SBs obviously. But while Pedroia doesn't have mind-blowing speed, it wouldn't shock me to see 30 SBs out of him. The ability to steal bases isn't so much based on speed as it is knowledge of the pitcher and catcher and the ability to recognize tendencies. You saw that with his jump from 7 SBs to 20 in one year Aside from all that, Pedroia should end up with better than Biggio's .281 career average and be right around his .363 OBP mark and 17-63 HR-RBI season average. 20 seasons with the same organization is incredible though... in terms of fielding, Pedroia could easily get 4 gold gloves like Biggio did, especially considering he's already established his gold glove-caliber reputation at just 24 years old but Pedroia will never have the versatility of playing the outfield like Biggio did
