  1. Ross is a FA and Ciriaco is not an everyday SS. Lavarnway isn't going anywhere. Sign Swisher. Sign Napoli. Sign Alex Gonzalez....RF, 1B, SS. Lavarnway and Ross do the catching. Lavarnway/Ross, Swisher and Napoli are all improvements over their replacements in terms of taking pitches and getting on base. Gonzalez is a low OBP guy, but thats a position that we have pretty much always conceded at. That still doesnt solve the mess with the rotation though.
  2. Well, there are a couple of ways of looking at it. You could argue that there is only 1 guarantee there. Buerhle is solid, Johnson will most likely get hurt and Reyes has an awful contract that they are now stuck with.
  3. Nope, its actually true. Hunter thinks Boston and its fans are racist. He has actually been very public with those thoughts.
  4. Who gives a s***. HE DIDNT WANT TO PLAY HERE, regardless of what he said. Everyone, please just face it.....this team will once again hover around third place, and there is nothing on the market that will really change it.
  5. I was against Josh Johnson at the deadline. I am against Jose Reyes, and Ross is better than Buck. Johnson has made 30 starts twice in his career. Reyes makes wayyy too much money. That would be Crawford all over again. Buck sucks. Buerhle is the only piece of the deal that I would have wanted. 200+ Innings, 12-14 Wins.
  6. How do the Florida Marlins....errrr, Miami Marlins still have a baseball team down there? What a sham they are. They loaded up on contracts for 1 year, they spent taxpayers money to build a stadium for a baseball team that barely exists, then firesale...... MLB should force them to sell that franchise and relocate, tough s*** about the stadium......make it a memorial.
  7. He was overrated? He sucks....
  8. LOL, Not really.....Salty is an awful defensive catcher who made EVERYONE worse. No, He is an awful choice at 1B. He may get away with his numbers at C, but he is an awful choice at 1B with those numbers. Ive wanted 2 players gone in the last 2 years more than anything else........Salty and Beckett. Lets see where we are once they are gone. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE...........
  9. Double post, sorry... I don't mind the signing of Laroche...but only if its short money and years (which it probably wont be). It wouldn't be a bad platoon with a player like Gomez, who I think will be given a shot to make the team. I said before as well, Youkilis....on short money and a 1 year contract is still very good value.
  10. Torii Hunter hates Boston and its fans. Its not a secret.
  11. Ive mentioned this a couple times this offseason......except, I want him to start. I want Iglesias no where near the 25 man roster.
  12. Didn't realize he was looking for that type of deal.....I was against the Crawford signing, so yeah....this wouldn't make sense for big money.
  13. Id bring Youk back.....even if he wants 2 years. Bobby V brought out the worst in a lot of those players, it was if he intentionally tried to piss some of them off, which in the end just sabotaged the season. Im 100% against Hamilton though....Beer and Chicken was overplayed, but I think there are too many selfish players in this clubhouse to give a s*** about Josh Hamiltons sobriety. Maybe things will be different with Beckett out.
  14. You are going to completely disregard what Aceves did a year ago? You do realize he was severely misused, and then overused correct? He threw 84 meaningless innings and was warming up almost every day in games that a closer had no impact in. Im not defending his late season actions, but had the Sox just signed Papelbon and kept Bard in the bullpen, Aceves could have been kept in the spot where he had the most success. Its not his fault the FO and Bobby Valentine f***ed him up. He isn't a closer, he wasn't a closer and he won't ever be a closer.
  15. Please kick the tires on Michael Bourn and explore trade possibilities for Ellsbury....
  16. If Hamilton signs in Boston or NY, I have a feeling his demons would end getting the best of him. Texas only offered him a 1 year deal, I think anything more than 1 year is foolish since he battles his demons on a day by day basis. In my opinion, Hamilton stays with Texas. They have provided an environment for him to succeed, and they have been loyal to him. Texas has locker room policies regarding alcohol and what not, when they won the ALCS, they wouldn't even celebrate with champagne....they had a alcohol free celebration. John Lackey alone, could ruin this guys life. Redsox and beer (and chicken) go together like lamb and tunafish.
  17. Id also take a flier on Soria. But I am pretty pissed off that we will throw significant money at guys like Soria or Soriano........when we could have just gave Papelbon his money and kept Bard in the pen.....I dont know, maybe its only me, but that seemed like it was working pretty well. Instead, players like Crawford/Lackey and Gonzalez get their money from the FO.....yeah, that makes sense.
  18. welcome back, sox nation 07!
  19. Goodbye David Ortiz. It was a fun ride. We will use the money and the DH position to become more flexible and younger. It wasn't like we were going to compete for a WS title with him anyways, by the time we are ready to compete again....he will be ready to retire. Lets just fast forward and get this over with. 25+ is too much on a 2 year deal, and 3 years is too long.
  20. Yeah....mine at least lasted 5 weeks
  21. Thats fine, just don't be one of the people who question someone elses next year, which will happen like clockwork around here.....just in time for spring training. Ive never seen this place so dead, for such a long span. I actually saw an advertising spam bot (XRumerTest) as the only other "active" poster other than myself, pretty sad.
  22. Rick Peterson interviewed today..... anybody know how that went? Id really like to see what he can to with our broken, yet talented pitching staff. If anybody could fix some of those guys, its him and Duncan.
  23. No thanks to Drew.... I had enough of that family already. Drew will command a contract in which he does no deserve since he is not competing against anybody else on the market. Just sign Alex Gonzalez. Neither are stars offensively, and Gonzalez has already proven to be at a minimum...... adequate offensively in Boston. We already know what we got with his glove.
  24. I wasn't kidding. I hated when he left. Some guys around here love Iglesias, but ignore the fact he can't hit his weight. Gonzalez can glove it and hit a little. He will be very short money. Who would require a big contract? I said trade Ellsbury, which will save us from a Scott Boras albatross. Trade for Bourn. Sign Mike Napoli, but let Ortiz go....so the funds will be relocated to Napoli. Signing Gonzalez will be peanuts. Swisher is a mid level guy, hes not getting big money. Hafner is also a mid level guy, you could probably get him cheap as well. Signing Youkilis is not going to happen, but it was just a thought. Im not suggesting any one player in specific, but they have a major need for guys who can get on base. All of the above get on base at pretty good rates, minus Gonzalez.....but he is an upgrade over Aviles regardless. Obviously Lohse and Sanchez will cost some money, and if I had to choose......Sanchez any day of the week over the 35 year old Lohse.
  25. Well, except replacing Ellsbury with Angel Pagan (a minimal move), all you have done in this thread is bash other peoples ideas. If you have any yourself, then post them.....other than that, shut up. All the moves I suggested would improve their OB/OPS numbers minus Alex Gonzalez. Is that your thing? You bash everyone else without providing any of your own insight?
