Bellhorn came up in a big situation last night, and instead of coming up clutch, once again takes his three and sits down. It is so frustrating watching him play. He is simpy not a big league hitter. Pitchers know he will chase bad fastballs and watch thigh high curveballs go by. His production numbers are not close to what they were last year, his walks are down, HR's are down, and strikeouts are up. To top it off, hes been inconsistent defensively. Beisides the bullpen second base is a huge problem, Bellhorn is as close to an automatic out as Tony Womack. He is simply not getting the job done whatsoever. You can't even play small ball with him because he can't run, and is not a very good sacrifice bunter. Worst of all you can't bench Bellhorn because he is not good enough at other positions to risk having to use him as a utility infielder. The time has come to release Mark Bellhorn. We don't exactly have "someone better" than Mark Bellhorn, but in no way is Cora, or Pedroia a WORSE option. As soon as Pedroia proves he can play a decent second base he becomes the starting second baseman because ANYTHING you get from him would be an upgrade over what Bellhorn brings to the table. Its sad too because I am a fan of sabremetrics, OPS, RC/27 and Bellhorn was the blueprint sabremetrics type of player because he displayed such a unique set of skills and made such little money, however the sox are getting exactly what they paid for with him now. Time to say Goodbye to #12
