  1. BEllhorn will get worse before he gets better, the fans were cheering the fact that he was getting pinch hit with John Olerud, and he is getting booed pretty regularly now. Its not going to get any better for him, and he simply doesnt have the skills to turn this around. This is not a slump, this is simply a bad baseball player folks. His career numbers dont lie, hes had a couple decent seasons, but there is a reason why he had three awful seasons after that year with the cubs, there is a reason why hes awful this year, and there is a reason why he didnt get much of a shot in oakland (who had zero decent second basemen btw) early in his career before he was in his late twenties. The reason is, he is not a very good major league player. The book is out, get ahead and bury him with breaking balls.
  2. Bellhorn came up in a big situation last night, and instead of coming up clutch, once again takes his three and sits down. It is so frustrating watching him play. He is simpy not a big league hitter. Pitchers know he will chase bad fastballs and watch thigh high curveballs go by. His production numbers are not close to what they were last year, his walks are down, HR's are down, and strikeouts are up. To top it off, hes been inconsistent defensively. Beisides the bullpen second base is a huge problem, Bellhorn is as close to an automatic out as Tony Womack. He is simply not getting the job done whatsoever. You can't even play small ball with him because he can't run, and is not a very good sacrifice bunter. Worst of all you can't bench Bellhorn because he is not good enough at other positions to risk having to use him as a utility infielder. The time has come to release Mark Bellhorn. We don't exactly have "someone better" than Mark Bellhorn, but in no way is Cora, or Pedroia a WORSE option. As soon as Pedroia proves he can play a decent second base he becomes the starting second baseman because ANYTHING you get from him would be an upgrade over what Bellhorn brings to the table. Its sad too because I am a fan of sabremetrics, OPS, RC/27 and Bellhorn was the blueprint sabremetrics type of player because he displayed such a unique set of skills and made such little money, however the sox are getting exactly what they paid for with him now. Time to say Goodbye to #12
