  1. Embree's making his Yankee debut in the 7th with one on and no outs.
  2. But that's what the deal is. Tampa is stingy, so we aren't getting him for less.
  3. Wanna get him for Manny and Sanchez?
  4. I think the book is still out on Huff. If we are getting the Huff of the last two years, then it might work out, but he's been struggling this year. Cameron is an above average fielder and average hitter. If we were trading less than a future HOF hitter and a potential front of the rotation starter, then I'd be in favor because Cameron in center, Damon in right, and Huff in left isn't totally unappealing. But one of those guys are going to sit when Nixon is back. And the loss in production at the plate will really be felt with this year's pitching staff. Which brings me to why I wouldn't want Lester or Sanchez to go in this trade. With Papelbon and those two we have 3 potential front of the rotation starters. Those guys, barring injury, are going to be big league pitchers, and our rotation would be very formidable if we were to keep them. If you are going to downgrade the offense, then don't give up what you are going to need to win games, and that is pitching.
  5. I was wondering the same thing last night. A 5 run lead in the 9th is a great time to give a young arm another inning. I was at the game his debut night and got to watch him warm up because I was sitting near the Sox bullpen. He's pretty impressive. I'd add Sanchez and Lester to that list.
  6. No, I don't think this is the first time. Yes, I think the trade request added fuel to the fire. I'm willing to accept "Manny being Manny" because you can just about pencil in .300/40+/130+ every year. That doesn't mean I have to like it when he turns his back on the team (even if it is against the Rays in the middle of July and we win anyway). I was at the game where Matt and Trot went down. It was the type of game that a team can really build some momentum on, and luckily, despite all the media mess, they appear to be doing that. But Manny's actions could very well have destroyed that momentum before it got started.
  7. I've already said this several times. I don't care if he misses a game and Tito's hunky-dorie with it. But when Tito asks him to play because he feels the team is in a pinch and Manny says "no". I've got to question his loyalty to the team (even if I'm willing to accept it, I've got to question it).
  8. So you want to keep the lesser player because he played good for 3 games?
  9. He's still on the 25-man roster as of right now. I'd like to see him get some more innings.
  10. We drafted him out of St. John's this year. He fell in the draft to us because teams skipped on him due to the fact that he was perceived as a tough sign. He was a tough sign for us, but we did sign him recently, because he was the most MLB ready prospect in the draft. He was St. John's closer. Think mid-90's FB with excellent control and a devastating slider. http://soxprospects.com/players/hansen-craig.htm
  11. Hansen will most likely be closing games next year. Foulke just can't match his stuff.
  12. The DRays do what they do with young talent because they won't spend money. Not all prospects pan out. So for them to have any success, they have to be very stingy in the trade market. And they are. There is no way we get Cantu, Lugo, Baez, and maybe even Kazmir for Rent, Graff, and some prospects. They won't take on the contracts, and they will want most of our 'A' prospects for that group. It just won't be worth the trouble. I'm in favor of patience over winning this year when it comes to trading our top prospects. We have 3, yes THREE, potential front of the rotation pitching prospects. In two years our rotation could be Papelbon, Lester, Sanchez, Clement, and someone else with Delcarmen doing setup work and Hansen closing games.
  13. That is why I won't speculate about how the core of the team feels about Manny. Tek, Nixon, and Mueller are smart enough to know that handling it in the media won't do any good. I do know that Nixon has publicly stated that trading Mueller will not be received well in the clubhouse. I think this team has enough assets to acquire some bullpen help without shopping Billy Mill around. I also think that some of our young arms should be given a shot at some BP work like Delcarmen was the other day in Tampa. What's the point of having a good farm system if you aren't going to use it?
  14. Nevin has no roster spot in Texas, and they desperately wanted to get out of Park's 65M$ contract. Nevin wants to be close to home in San Diego, and the Dodgers are reportedly shopping either Weaver or Lowe. I'm betting Nevin isn't finishing the season in Dallas.
  15. I agree, and I don't want him traded, but I'm not going to give him a free pass either.
  16. You ask your best friend to help you out and loan you some money. He says no even though you know he has it. You find a way to get the money elsewhere. Can you honestly tell me that you don't see your friend in a new light now?
  17. I don't want any Manny trade to go down, but I don't want to rock the boat by trading a "team first" player and clutch hitter like Bill Mueller either.
  18. The Mueller trade may be more damaging than a Manny trade would be off the field. Trading Manny is addition by subtraction off the field. Mueller is the opposite. Several players have already publicly said that trading Billy Mill will not be well received in the clubhouse.
  19. When they DFA'd him that gave the Sox 10 days to trade or release him. After the ten days are up he was on waivers, if he had cleared waivers then the Sox could have sent him to the minors.
  20. Alan Embree was picked up off waivers by the NY Yankees.
  21. That's my point. The radio announcer needs to be better because you don't see the action. Whereas the TV announcer doesn't have to capture your full attention because the action is right before your eyes.
  22. Radio announcers generally are. Must be something to do with the fact that radio stimulates only one of your senses, while television stimulates two.
  23. He shows up early to take extra BP, and that's it. He's not shagging extra fly balls. If he practices so hard maybe he ought to quit, because he plays in the field like it's the company picnic softball game. But you don't seem to understand what it means to turn your back on your teammates when asked to help them in a pinch. And the fact that we won the game is irrelevant. The damage was already done when he said "no". 0.01% is only 1 in 10,000, and since Manny has made only 4,000 outs in his career, then by your logic, he wouldn't have even done it once yet. I'd say it's more like 30% of ground ball outs that he doesn't run it out. Now, that may change for a little while because of the play against the Rays where he was safe on a bad throw. Look, I don't want to see Manny go. He's one of my favorite players of all time, but that doesn't mean I should not be critical of the way he plays the game or how he turns his back on the team.
  24. Another good game for Lowrie: 4 AB, 2 H, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 BB That brought his numbers up to .329/.395/.479 in 18 games.
  25. I'm not suggesting that he doesn't. I just don't think he "gets" it. Most fans aren't upset about Manny wanting to be traded, especially since this isn't the first such request. They are upset about the day off incident, and Ortiz isn't seeing that as the reason. Neither am I trying to defend the booing. I wouldn't do it if I were there. I believe you support the team on the field. But I do understand why some would.
