  1. If anyone wants to se, Dirt Dogs has a re-hashed picture of Wily in a Red Sox uni. http://bostondirtdogs.boston.com/Headline_Archives/2006/03/mo_better_sox.html -------------------------------- Also to note, he is arriving in Ft Myers this morning for meet & greet with his new teammates and cocahing staff. He will take part in workouts, might even appear in today's game.
  2. Sox dealing for Wily Mo Pena of course now makes it harder for Juan Gone to even make the team at some point. I saw in Boston Herald that Juan will contend with Wily for Trot's platoon partner? Sorry "Gone" but you are just a name now, Wily is the present & future for this club.
  3. this is not about the blue jays but the devil rays. Closer Shinji Mori from Japan is already out for the season
  4. The only source I heard it from was last night on Foxports
  5. Tyrone Poole got himself a 2 year contract with the Raiders http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2377179
  6. Wily is going to be Trot's platoon partner, Mohr is out of a job now since that was going to be his main role. Wily hit .291 against lefties in 2005, Theo of course jumped at that. I still see Stern staying up here as the 5th OF for the first 17 days then being sent back down to Pawtucket. Theo also expressed that Wily could spell Coco & Manny sometimes in their positions. Take some DH, while Ortiz plays 1st base some more possibly. They might even try him at 1st base as well, a position he hasnt played in the majors before. But as I said, first & foremost, his main role entering the season will be Trot's platoon partner. -------------------- EDIT: I was curious to see what Wily's stats were for this spring training. But then I realized, he's just coming back from the WBC. Very cool, he's going to be reunited with WBC team mate Big Papi
  7. I heard on WEEI that Wily was so ecstatic of now being a Red Sox (a lot due to he's going from the Reds to an actual contender), that he's headed right over to Ft Myers as we speak. I can picture Theo saying, "Wily this is Papa Jack. He's your new best friend now"
  8. I just took a quick glance at the box score, 3 HRs he gave up. How long did he last until being pulled?
  9. Lets be real here, Arroyo wouldve been mainly used out of the bullpen this year doing mop-up duties. Also with Papelbon & Lester approaching the rotation for 2007, there wasnt a guarantee in my eyes that Bronson wouldve been in the rotation any time soon... In Cincinatti he'll get more starts, the National League could make him a better pitcher -------------------------- EDIT: Theo on Bronson Arroyo and his handsake agreement. And why they got Wily http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/
  10. He resigned in mid-January, 2 weeks prior to Theo coming back on board
  11. The Mariners have traded left-hander Matt Thornton for White Sox's backup outfielder Joe Borchard http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-whitesox-marinerstrade&prov=ap&type=lgns
  12. yes I kind of realize that... but you cant tell me how I should think. Yankees. Period. That is why we are calling him a traitor. Even if it was the lowest offer, Id still boo at him If he signed with say the Orioles for 5 years/$60 million, there would be a standing ovation for him. With Yankees for less money, there wont be close to a standing ovation
  13. Actually I was calling him a traitor because he went to the Yankees, not because he went to where there was more $$$
  14. How cool is that? We have 2 Dominican sluggers who are power threats, Pena could very well join that mix
  15. This also gives Papelbon more chances to pitch, which I prize. About Arroyo, yes I will miss him of course. I got his CD, and love his version of Dirty Water. A classy guy who loved the city of Boston, Red Sox, and its fans (especially the teenage girls, i kid ). But overall the Sox got an offer to get a young outfielder with potential to be a power threat in the Sox lineup. They couldnt pass it by. We are looking at Trot's platton partner I believe and eventual successor. Last season he had hit .291 against lefties. Plus he is moving from the Great American Ballpark to Fenway.
  16. what a surprise, lets turn this into a red sox vs yankees argument thread please
  17. I agree 100% He's just 24, so there is good possibility that Papa Jack and his new teammates can help him on his strike zone presence. Last 2 seasons he's had 600 ABs, in that time he hit 45 HRs. So obviously he's a power threat. Maybe Im getting little bit far of myself but... you place him in Fenway for 81 games out of the year, we could have ourselves a 40 HR slugger on our hands
  18. Flanders: Ok I'll take one box RJ: Are you looking for trouble?
  19. though not related to spring training classic moment, Randy Johnson had a brief appearance in tonight's new Simpsons episode. He was at a Left-torium convention and was getting in Flanders face to buy what he was selling.
  20. you are right about that, but hey its something we should get used to for this season The defense that is... --------------- Curt Schilling in today's start against a minor league team
  21. He'll still be in that role for the first 17 days of the season, then optioned back to Pawtucket. per Rule 5 draft rules
  22. Seriously this guy cant get a break. Bad luck keeps finding him. I also heard that RJ struck out 9 over 6 innings. Im thinking that he could have a better season than 2005, this spring he holds a 18/3 K/BB ratio
  23. Very true, that is my thinking as well. Trot should play out his knowingly last season with Boston. Wily in Fenway would be a great addition I believe, he is just 24 so a lot of potential. His last 2 seasons in 200 games (600 ABs) he has clubbed 45 HRs. Now you place this right hander in Boston, we could have ourselves a young 40HR slugger on our hands.
  24. yea I saw it, like in the beginning of spring training, his fastball is staying consistent around 89
