  1. Update from the 1st inning of the spring training matchup vs the D-Rays. Our old friend Casey Fossum is pitching. Wells had a 1-2-3 inning, all outs on groundballs ---------- *Coco singles to start off the game (Honestly, every game he has been in he has gotten on base in his first AB ) *With Loretta batting, Coco steals his 7th stolen base of the spring *Loretta walks *Ortiz pops out *Manny singles, driving in Coco... 1-0 *Varitek K's *Mike Lowell walks, loading the bases *Trot singles, driving in Loretta & Manny... 3-0 *J.T. Snow singles, driving in Lowell... 4-0 *Gonzalez fiels out to end the inning Note: Im not doing this with every inning I hear about, this one I just wanted to let you guys know of the play-by-play
  2. This isnt about the draft but rather with scouting The Sox had in big league camp, a 16 year old catcher phenom by the name of Jesus Montero. He has had worked out for both New York clubs and is set to work out for other clubs soon. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2006/03/27/montero_catching_a_few_glances/
  3. Beckett's spring 5.14 ERA is deceiving to say the least. His first start saw him allow 5 Tampa Bay runs in 3 innings of work. In a press conference after the game, he said he'll have something for them in the regular season Over his past 2 starts however, Twins & Phillies, he has allowed just 3 runs in 11 innings. Yesterday was his last start of spring training, this friday he'll pitch in a minor league game to set up for his first official start as a Red Sox... April 5- @ Texas (the same team who took their time trading for him, Boston swooped in with no hesitation)
  4. 1 week until Schilling takes the mound vs Millwood
  5. Phillies young slugger Ryan Howard thought he hit a HR off of Beckett. So he was showboating down the 1st base line until he saw that it was caught. this is something that no pitcher wants to see an opposing batter do, especially Beckett. When howard was taking 1st base, Beckett was held back by Seanez & Pena as he shouted out remarks at him. Benches got cleared but there were no swings. And this is just a spring training game This is what the 2005 rotation lacked, a pitcher who will get into the batters' faces when he sees something he doesnt like. A la Pedro.
  6. Final stats of today's Sox win over the Phils 3-2. This ends a 5 game losing streak making their spring record at 7-16-1. Tomorrow David Wells gets the 1pm start against the Devil Rays Josh Beckett, as noted, was solid through 6 innings of work. He gave up 2 runs on 6 hits and 3 Walks. Struck out 6 batters (3 times he had back to back Ks). Rudy Seanez is hopefully showing some rust coming off, pitched his 3rd straight scoreless inning. Hansen pitched 2 shutout innings to close it out for a save Tony G helping his cause hit a 1st inning HR to give the Sox the quick 1-0 lead. Stern continued his hitting going 2 for 4 with a Double & SB. Wily Mo Pena had also gone 2 for 4 with a Double. In 3 spring training games with Sox, Wily Mo is now 5 for 11, just 1 K. Dustan Mohr had an RBI, but his biggest play of the game was throwing out Jimmy Rollins at Home plate. In the end, that was the deciding factor.
  7. Hansen has upped his scoreless streak to 9.2 innings this spring Sidetrack: Seanez has now thrown 3 scoreless innings since the last time he allowed a run. EDIT: Make that 10.2 scoreless innings for Hansen as he shuts the door down to get the save
  8. True but really he'd get more playing time down in Pawtucket. I think Theo wants to get as many AB's as possible for Wily Mo, not just platooning with Trot. Stern would be seeing a lot of the bench in games, Pawtucket he'd be an everyday starter
  9. Beckett was having a shouting match between innings with Howard. I love the presence that he brings to the Red Sox, something lost when Pedro left Final Line- 6 innings, 6 Hits, 2 Runs, 3 Walks, 6 Ks
  10. The Diamondbacks & Athletics have swapped reliever for reliever
  11. Beckett is looking nasty, and this is against a good offensive lineup too
  12. Yep first time Sox fans are going to be able to watch him pitch in the #19 Red Sox uni. Like Schilling, he's been used more in Triple A/intersquad matchups. His last spring training start was on March 16 against the Twins, going 5 innings allowing just 1 run. Ive heard that the Sox camp is very optimistic of what they have seen thus far. His fastball is even clocking at 94-97, and breaking pitches are moving down & away from batters once they reach the plate.
  13. Josh Bard, previously seen with #28, has changed his number to 77 honoring the Bruin great Ray Bourque. Hee-Seop Choi has now been assigned 28.
  14. Sorry it had to come to this to such a classy guy. Thanks for the memories Tony G . Wont forget being at the Texas Rangers game where you really broke out as a fan favorite, belting a 3 run HR to break a 5-5 tie. Also you somehow had scored from 2nd on a frigging infield single!! Looking forward to the day that you come back to Fenway, a long standing ovation is coming your way.
  15. 1 week from tomorrow (8 days) and counting!!
  16. Tanyon Sturtze to set up for Mariano? I dont see that working out well I thought it was evident, farnsworth its the go-to guy for the 8th inning. Maybe he's looking to refrain from over-usage, Tom Gordon the past 2 seasons. But still this is not the best option for NY
  17. Arroyo tagged in 1st Reds spring training start
  18. Foulke is looking good so far, just one game at a time Keith. Coco continues to show off what he can do. He hit a leadoff single, drew a walk, but real story is back to back stolen bases. He now has 6 this spring. ---------------------------------------- EDIT: Stats The Sox fell to the Blue Jays 5-3. This is their 5th straight loss, making the spring record at 6-16-1. Tim Wakefield was tagged for the first time, going 5 innings while giving up 4 runs on 10 hits. He struck out 4 and didnt walk a batter. Before this, he had gone 9 scoreless innings so no need to be alarmed. Keith Foulke had another 1-2-3 inning, this time against major league batters. Keep it up Foulke. Manny Delcarmen pitched 2 solid shutout innings at the end. For offense, Ortiz had went 2 for 4 with a RBI. Coco stole back to back bases. He now leads the team with 6. Alex Gonzalez broke out of his slump for a RBI double, Bard followed that with an RBI of his own to drive in Gonzo. Hee-Seop Choi made his unofficial red Sox debut in the late innings.
  19. Yes the 2007 option becomes guaranteed once he reaches 330 games caught from 2004 - 2006. Once the 07 option becomes guaranteed, 2008 option will be added on to his contract. http://mlb4u.com/nyy.html
  20. This is Aaron Boone's last season of his contract. if he gets off to another slow start, I dont think that they'll hesitate to send Marte up to the Bigs
  21. Hee Seop Choi is already at the Fort Myers Camp, we could see him in action for today';s matchup against the Blue Jays. At 1pm on NESN, for those who have it
  22. Posada might miss the first 3 games or so of the season http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=A9htfuU1ECVEN4cA4xURvLYF?slug=ap-yankees-posada&prov=ap&type=lgns
  23. Which is why he is now trying out for the Rockies
  24. The Seahawks have obtained Nate Burleson, 7 years/$49 million http://blogs.thenewstribune.com/seahawks/
