  1. I was just giving my current observation, nothing wrong with that. Im not acting like he's going to be a dead weight for us. Of course he'll get better in time And I didnt actually compare him to Chacon, thats a little-bit exaggeration
  2. I fully understand he's a rookie, but he's really got to step it up with his command this 2nd half
  3. Unfortunately it wasnt Johnson who was cut to make room per boston globe Wally is back
  4. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2518391 woohooo  Ponson's last 3 seasons has seen his ERA above 5, and opposing batting avg above .300 He had a 5.24 ERA in the NL Central... now hes moving back to the AL East in a pennant race for the Yankees  18 games vs Boston (3-10, 6.37 ERA) opposing .318 avg 8 games at Fenway (2-4, 6.46 ERA) opposing .326 avg
  5. Oakland (45-43) at Boston (53-33) http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/us/sp/v/mlb/players/2006_1/5368.jpg Estaban Loaiza (3-5, 6.43 ERA) 25 Ks, 21 Walks, 10 HRs http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/images/gameday/mugshots/mlb/452657.jpg Jon Lester (4-0, 3.06 ERA) 30 Ks, 20 Walks, 2 HRs
  6. honest typo, i do hear that last name a lot
  7. His ERA away from the spacious PETCO Park is at 4.97
  8. Felipe Lopez is one of the best young shortstops out there and Austin Kearns is a power hitting outfielder, and the Reds are in a pennant race too. EDIT: Jim Bowden Owns the Reds on this trade
  9. That would be correct, he just has to somehow fix the location problems that has made his ERA & HRs go up considerably. Career in September 23 games, 11-4 record with a 2.48 ERA (7 Hrs, 136 Ks in 130.2 innings)
  10. Its referencing any shutout, the starting pitcher going all 9 or the starter combining with relievers to shut out an opponent. The Red Sox are more than due to have one
  11. Snyder in 3 Pawtucket starts (1-1, 3.54 ERA) 20.1 innings, 24 Hits, 8 Runs, 2 Walks, 7 K Im not sure of how he did in his lone Lowell Spinners start
  12. So i went to redsox.com this morning while having my breakfast. I notice the headline Johnson shines in minor league outing, it deceived me however. He did get 15 groundball outs with an effective sinkerball. Heres his stats 7 innings, 10 Hits, 4 Runs, 0 Walks, 1 K Now his sinkerball might have been effective to get aggressive young kids to roll over on top of them, but still they managed 10 hits off of him. Facing kids just out of high school & college is not a good gauge that there is hope http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060712&content_id=1554818&vkey=news_bos&fext=.jsp&c_id=bos
  13. 2007 fantasy roster Catcher- Jason Varitek Backup-- Doug Mirabelli (this is if Wake is still going to be part of the rotation) 1st base- Kevin Youkilis Backup-- Erubiel Durazo (good lefty bat off the bench) 2nd base- Dustin Pedroia (instant fan of Loretta, but "Dusty" is part of the youth movement) Shortstop- Alex Gonzalez (he is deserving of a 2/3 season contract) Backup-- Alex Cora (resign to 2 year deal, Tito does great job of managing this do) 3rd base- Mike Lowell left field- Manny Ramirez center field- Coco Crisp right field- this is the biggest question mark going into the season as for who will be the starter. I would like to see Gabe Kapler be resigned
  14. Yes Alex Gonzalez is a free agent. But honeslt with the defenseive season he's having, hard to believe that the Red Sox wont even attempt to resign him. Julio Lugo would go against the message the Sox sent out this season. He easily averages around 25 errors a season and he would also command a higher contract than Gonzo --------------------------------------- Barry Zito would be a good acquisition but with his agent being Scott Boras... it wont come cheap. We could see something in the neighborhood of 5 years/75 million
  15. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5778412 Should be announced officially sometime today. Houston- Aubrey Huff Tampa Bay- Double A pitcher Mitch Talbot, Double A shortstop Ben Zobrist
  16. its now on mlbtraderumors, guess i was onto something http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/
  17. Pitching matchups Game 1- Rookie Jon Lester vs the 6+ ERA Estaban Loaiza... Billy Beane might be a guru but its laughable he gave a 3 year contract to this hack who cant pitch in the AL, Sox should take care of him and back up Lester Game 2- Wayback Beckett (Nuke Laloosh) vs Dan Haren... As much as Beckett's 1st half was under expectations, he has been dominant in the hitters park that is Fenway. He is carrying a nifty 2.54 ERA in 7 starts and a 5-0 record. Let alone just 4 of his 26 HRs have been at Fenway. Haren has had 2 good starts vs Boston, but lost both of them due to shoddy defense. So far, Im not expecting a high scoring game from either side. Game 3- Curt Schilling vs Barry Zito... Yet again another great pitching duel Schilling finds himself in. This game will also see Wily Mo Pena's 1st start since returning from the DL. Game 4- Tim Wakefield vs Joe Blanton... Wake has done well against the A's, just holding out hope on his sore back woes. Joe Blanton had an impressive rookie season last year, but has been hittable this season with a 4.95 ERA
  18. Hmm, something has to be in the mix then..
  19. That was a Leonardo DiCarprio movie, dumbass
  20. oh god, joe buck & tim McCarver easy prediction, they will go on for awhile about manny not at the all-star game ---------------- EDIT: Ok Brad Penny struck out Ichiro for the first out McCarver said that this is the best he has seen an all-star starting pitcher pitch since Pedro in 99
  21. My 2nd half predictions MVP- David Ortiz, headed for a 50-55 HR/160+ RBI season. Oh but he cant win the MVP because he's a DH yea those stats only get a pat on the back Cy Young- Jonathan Papelbon, headed for a 40+ save season in what is his rookie year. Enough said Comeback Pitcher (from 1st half)- Josh Beckett. He's known to be a force in the 2nd half, especially in September Comeback Position Player- Coco Crisp Best Glove- Alex Gonzalez (76 games closer to a deserving Rawlings Gold Glove and he might not be the only Sox to receive one)
  22. Concerning Zito, its all but obvious that Billy Beane will not trade him -- They are in a pennant race, the title is for the taking in the weak AL West -- Zito has hired Scott Boras as his new agent, oh yeah he's intent on getting a big payday. The top 3 suitors for Zito will be Yankees, Mets and Cardinals
  23. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=5284 Baseball Prospectus has a tidbit that there could be a solution with Manny's sore knee. We could end up seeing Manny more at DH, Youk in LF and Ortiz flashing the leather
