Bowa's not leaving Torre and the Dodgers. I wish. He was great while here.

suppose so

So I figured I would start this now that the first moves of the offseason have taken place. Today the Yankees fired third base coach bobby Meacham, who i wasn't a huge fan of; and special pitching instructor Rich Monteleone. Monteleone has been on the staff for a long time, and I always thought he did a nice job. I guess his departure is just to make an example. He's been more of a behind the scenes guy since being replaced as bullpen coach after 2004, but still made an impact. Bets of luck to him. Although unlikely, I would love to see Willie Randolph take Meacham's spot on the staff. Anyone but Sojo. I like Sojo, as a coach and manager. Just not as a third base coach. He was almost as bad as Dale Sveum :thumbdown

Not too bad. That's a bargain!
-
Shea won't even be standing
-
I think that is a bad idea. KEEP Jose Molina. He's a great defensive catcher and probably the best throwing catcher in the AL, if not all of the bigs.
-
Thats another thing, we only have so many draft picks. We're not going to nearly be able to sign all of these guys. No way we're getting C.C., A.J., Tex, and Lowe, etc. I don't wanna lose all of our potential first and second rounders to shell out big bucks to all these guys.
-
I wouldn't mind having Lowe, I just don't want to bring him in as a big dollar, top of the rotation guy. If we can give him a reasonable deal and he could anchor the back third of the rotation then great. Otherwise, no thanks.
-
How about the past 100 years. Fair enough?
-
Serve it up. I'll get it while it's hot.

Time out, I never said kennedy could be an ace type pitcher. I was referring to Wang and Hughes. Kennedy can go rot in Scranton or Japan for all i care. He'd probably have some success if that were the case. i think Cash should get on the phone and put that "working arangement" with Yomiuri in effect, we'd probably benefit more than if we stuck with him lol.

But is it worth it in the longrun? Why increase the payroll year after year after year when theres no guarantees we're going to be successful. The only thing that philosophy guarantees is that we'll be forced to spend a fortune at the ballpark year after year after year. Is it worth it to be the subject of constant ridicule. If Gom had his way we would have a $300 Million payroll by 2012. And if we don't win the World Series we would be the laughingstock of major professional sports. Just because we have the resources doesn't mean we have to be glutonous and greedy and just spend and spend and spend and trade promising young players. If we were to follow that game-plan all these years Mo would be a Mariner, Cano and Wang would be in Arizona , among countless other possibilities. The long-term payoff of not trading for Santana is that we could possibly have two ace-type pitchers in the future at a reasonable price rather than be paying a former ace on his decline $20 Mil while our guys succeed elsewhere. I just dont understand the thinking. So we didn't make the playoffs one year, it's not the endo f the world. It's hard and it sucks, definitely. But there are 30 teams and only 8 go to the dance. We'll get them next year. I mean really, How many Johan Santana's did we have in 1996?

I can't help but shake my head at a lot of what has been said in this thread. For one, both Nady and Marte need to stay put. Nady has been good since coming over, he's got a decent contract, and i think he fits well with this team. A lefty duo of Coke and Marte in the pen is extraordinary, assuming Marte can adjust better in a full season. Either way, it's way too early to give up on him, $6 million or not. I absolutely agree with every point made by Jacko on the bullpen. Our real priority, as we all know has to be starting pitching. I'm not big on Burnett, but I wouldn't be overly opposed to him coming aboard. C.C. would be nice, although historically I have never been a big C.C. fan and always kinda considered him overrated, but based on what he did this year and down the stretch, albeit in the NL Central, definitely can't be overlooked. I still don't think he would want to come here though. He likes hitting and the west coast. We'll see though, we all know money talks. Giambi would definitely be welcomed back by me, only if he is willing to take a significant paycut. Time to see if he'll put his money where his mouth is and stand by his self-proclaimed Yankee love affair, or if he bolts elsewhere for more money. I say $5 mil should be our absolute max on Giambi, if he wants more then sayonara, give us those picks. I'm up in the air about Abreu, he's been terrific since coming over, but the numbers game comes into play big. When you have Damon, Matsui, Gardner, Melky, Nady and Abreu a lot of tough decisions have to be made. If Nady were more willing to spend some increased time at first that would be helpful. I'm not talking all the time or anything, but once in a while here and there. I think he only appeared in 1 or 2 games at first for us this year. If not, remember that both Damon and Matsui have stated they would be willing to do some work around the bag in camp. As for Cano, I would be very disappointed if he's traded. I think it would be a HUGE mistake. The only way I would even slightly consider moving Cano is if Matt Kemp were coming back our way, but that would only complicate things further with our excess of outfielders. I think our bench will be pretty solid again, I dont know if too many additions need to be made as long as we have that outfield excess and the versatility of Ransom and Betemit in the infield. Jose Molina, AKA the best backup catcher in baseball will hold it down behind the plate backing up Jorge. If the numbers allowed for it I wouldn't be absolutely opposed to holding onto Pudge and letting them all share time, if he wanted to that is. But that's a near impossibility, and he's certain to go. I know he was bordering on Type b status last time I checked, so hopefully he still qualifies and we can get a pick for him. We have tons of insurance arms in the minors, which proved helpful this year, so i think in that regard we're good. Honestly, I dont think much needs to be changed this offseason for us to be right back where we belong next season. But the offseason is long and unpredictable, so we'll see what happens.

Trust me, I'm not disputing any of that. I'm just stating the reason for the new ballpark, and that mostof the business within a block or 2 of the Stadium get most of their business from people going to the games. Sure, this hurts the public, that's not up for debate.
-
Yeah but that's only because Baltimore was so bad. They were still 11 games out and finished third, as we probably will. And what's wrong with me pointing out your team missing the playoffs when he's gonna throw it in my face that we wont be playing postseason baseball this year? C'mon now.

Wouldn't it be something to see Manny, Torre, Mattingly, Lowe, and Nomar stroll into Fenway for the World Series?

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Fsh7GWfK4f0/SNklUC4LOTI/AAAAAAAACj4/F_Nqkq6uGzA/s400/11793xw.jpg Is this not a beautifully charming sight in this "eyesore" of a neighborhood where you'll get shot at every street corner?

You know what, I'm just gonna drop this. It doesn't even matter. If he wants to be ignorant and live his life believing that Yankee Stadium exists on 159th and Jerome then that's cool. If he want's to think that he's going ot be mugged around every turn, then good, He'sprobably better off staying off of these streets. Do what you gotta do "sonny." Based on Paradisecity regarding your means of living, you're probably a big Boston tough guy. But Boston and NEw York are 2 different playgrounds. Just like I wouldnt step out of line up there, where I know nothing about my surroundings, I guess it's a good thing you do the same here. Have a great day in your beautiful city where the safe streets are bumpin all hours of the night. Oh, and speaking of safety, I just wanted to make this point. How many people were killed or injured in the Bronx during Yankee pennant and World Championship celebrations? ...and this is the more dangerous of the two, right?
-
You're right. I don't know him or what he does. But the things he says about my hometown offend, especially when half of what he says is completely fabricated and exaggerated. And to question what I do in this town is not his place. To call me out and say "have you ever walked down the street in the big-bad bronx after 10pm" is laughable. Sure, I've had unfavorable encounters here, but no reason for me to cower in fear with my tail between my legs on my way to the deli my grandfather helped build 50 years ago, or getting off the subway at 161st Street & River Ave. I don't take well to ignorance. Is it his fault that he's not from here and is unfamiliar with the place,no. But don't claim "That dump on 159th and Jerome.....blah blah blah" because it makes you look stupid.
-
Haha now you've got me laughing. Ok, take a quote from me when I was s***-faced and do what you want with it. Do I liberally say nigger? No. Do people in today's society say "nigga" a lot, yes. Am I one of them? No. Do I know many of them? Yes. Did I say it that night in that post, yes. Did it offend anyone here? Perhaps, if so I apologize. Growing up in New York you're faced with so much diversity that you learn to coexist and respect people of other races and ethnicities. That may not be the case in New England, where the people are as white as the snow. So because I s*** on you for claiming facts on things that were in fact wrong you get your panties in a waist and wanna take personal shots at me? Fine. Do it up. Like you said though, I don't know half of your story growing up on the mean streets of Bahhston. But from what you've said I do know thatthe way you act there is very different then the way you act here, when you walk down one of the safest streets in the Bronx with your tail between your legs and cower in fear atthe sight of a black man. Instead of avoiding eye contact, just look at them and smile. They're not gonna "jump you" or "bust a cap in yo ass" for it. They're people just like you and I and the other Marky Mark wannabe white boys in New England. Be polite and respectful and you'll have no reason to s*** your pants around every corner. And yes, I agree that it is a shame that our season's highlight is the Stadium's closing. But before you point and laugh, don't forget where your team was in October just 2 years ago.
-
I love how through the entirety of this thread all that you guys have done is take my every word and twist it. Like when I said that the new Stadium is more profitable than the current one, or when I said that local businesses benefit from the Yankees. There's something wrong here.
-
hahaha you really are stupid and I suggest you keep quiet before you say anything else that is just wrong. First, your address is wrong, it's not 159th and Jerome you moron, it's 161st and River. Nice try though And yeah, I've walked around there after10pm you idiot, most games don't get out until 10:30-ish, and I have family and friends in the Bronx. s***, I walked 10 blocks at 3am after the All Star Game to a relatives house. If walking around in a city patrolled by thousands of cops after dark is scary to you I suggest you stay in New England you little panty-waist. Here's a tip, don't mess with them and they won't mess with you. And I love how people who aren't from New York characterize bad neighborhoods as looking like "Harlem." Dude, you don't know s*** about Harlem, the South Bronx, or New York for that matter. Just like I know very little about Boston and New England. Don't act big because you've walked around a 3 block radius a few times in the daylight, you aint s***. Oh, and another thing, there is no 159th Street Station you moron. And again, you guys put words into my mouth. I never said "some diner is a good reason to build a ballpark there", I said that the diners benefit from the ballpark's presence, you f***ing idiot. And I don't need to google my New York facts, I'm New York born and bred. I never claimed that the Bronx was a nice place to take a stroll, or that it was a high-end neighborhood, because it's not. It is what it is, but it's got a lot of history. My great grandfather settled in the Bronx (Only a few blocks from FOrdham's Rose Hill campus) when he got off the ship from Naples, and I've had family there ever since. Don't look down upon me with your snobby, white upper-cl;ass attitude because you're scared of a few"minorities," you racist piece of s***. I don't know where you get off saying I'm trying to convince people that the Bronx is a garden spot, all I said about the Bronx is that it's historical significance in regards to the Yankees is why they kept the new Stadium in the Bronx, and rightfully so. You're scarfed forsome reason that you're gona get shot or mugged or something anytime you walk 100 feet in a New York city neighborhood, but that just isn't the case. Get in touch with reality you moron. And get your selective reading interpretation checked out, I never said the neighborhoods were great, charming places. But I'm not afraid to walk around my home-borough and s*** my pants anytime I see a black man. Bitch. And as for me not being able to count, another moronic statement. My username was made in 2005 when the count was still 26 to 6. I've offerred to change it, but your fellow Sox fans get a kick out of me being stuck with this username. Fine by me, fine by them. If it bothers you, take it up with yeszir and the other Sox fans here. I've already told yeszir that he can change it at anytime, upon the request of you guys. Idiot. And yes, parking prices have certainly increased since 2005, as I stated. the lot you probably parked in costs $17 to park in today. Not a dramatic increase, but not the $12 bucks you seem to all-knowingly claim. You dont know s*** about this place, stick to Boston beanhead.
