  1. Fortunate there.
  2. What's most concerning is the fact that the starting pitching looks absolutely horrible. I realize Wang's not here, but still. Even that pitch right there, to Huff, was not too close to where it was supposed to be.
  3. This could get really ugly, considering the bullpen is very tired, and Igawa may not be long for this game. Should be interesting to see how Torre plays this game out. Especially with Rasner going tomorrow there is a good chance he won't last long either.
  4. That was a bad break with Mora, but he simply has no command with runners on base. Hopefully this is not a sign of things to come from this staff. By the way, Jeter really looks lost defensively right now.
  5. A-Rod's really swinging the bat well to start the year.
  6. Cano really should not be hitting leadoff. He is not patience and not fast. He would probably be much more effective batting where he usually bats.
  7. I think the 2-2 pitch was a bit low. Also, I don't know why the continue to throw fastballs to markakis on the outside part of the plate. He showed he can really hit those.
  8. Alright, lets just get a win today. I'm really looking forward to seeing Igawa.
  9. Have to start hitting with RISP. With the exceptions of Cano and Posada no one really did this last night. Matsui also had a bloop single which drove in a run. Someone like Giambi had a few chances to change the game, but he couldn't even get the ball out of the infield (popped out with the bases loaded and one out in the third, and struck out with runners and first and second and one out in the seventh). He is just off to a slow start I guess.
  10. According to WFAN, Jeter told Larry Bowa in the middle of the game that his back was killing him. Not sure how this injury occured. However, X-Rays on his foot were negative and just done as a precaution. No word yet on his availability for today.
  11. Third straight poor game in a row. The inability to hit with RISP up to this point is pretty glaring. But it is still very earlier. On a better note, Damon is doing much better, but now Jeter had to leave the game earlier. For those who didn't see the game he fouled one off his foot earlier in the game and was limping afterwards. Not sure if X-Rays are necessary. The bullpen was very solid tonight, especially Henn who had three innings of shutout relief. Myers and Proctor combined for the last two innings. Obviously the story of this game is the ineffectiveness of Moose, which is kind of surprising considering he was the one Yankee who had a really good spring in terms of results and health. But Moose hadn't pitch last Friday and we know how important it is for him to work on schedule. Not an excuse, just an observation. In terms of Damon, he better get back soon, because right now Melky looks more lost at the plate than any other Yankee.
  12. I would be the first one to admit that Gonzalez is a better fielder than Jeter, and also that Jeter didn't deserve the gold glove. But, without looking up the stats, did Gonzalez play a full season? I thought he shared time with Cora.
  13. In the last few years Jeter's ability to move to his left and field ground balls has gone down the drain. He seems to have very little range moving in that direction. On top of that, going back to his minor league days, he's been error prone. Hopefully he gets it straighten out soon, but it's only two games.
  14. Well, I for one try not to look at things through rose colored glasses. Brosius, especially in his last two years, was not very good to say the least. Especially in the postseason, excluding one very big hit. Brosius got a great deal of chances, and managed to come through in a few of them, including the 1998 World Series where he was the best player on the field. But I think he was more of a fan favorite than anything else. Crespo, did you read about the Jay Bell bunt thing somewhere, or are you just remembering it from when it happened?
  15. Could not agree more with the Abreu part. Every Yankee fans wants to blame A-Rod for everything that goes wrong. Abreu was up with the bases loaded and one out, a much easier situation than bases loaded and two outs. I know A-Rod has not come through in the past, but Abreu didn't even get a mention until Gom brought him up. Jackson, not everything is A-Rod's fault, that's all I'm say. To be honest, there is a good chance that they'd be 0-2 instead of 1-1 if it weren't for A-Rod.
  16. Yeah, I understand that, but from what I've heard the DL may be a possibility. The other problem is that it takes away the Yankees leadoff hitter. Although they have two other capable leadoff hitters in Jeter and Abreu, I don't think Torre wants to move Jeter out of the two spot or Abreu out of the three. Cano was going to bat leadoff today. Mistake if you ask me. Obviously, in this lineup it doesn't really matter where everyone bats, but Damon was the sparkplug last year. If they lose him for an extended period of time, it will be a loss. I guess Kevin Thompson would be called up if Damon sees time on the DL.
  17. The Johnny Damon injury appears to be more serious than it initially appeared. He was not supposed to be in the lineup today and from the sound bite I heard, he is not optimistic about playing anytime soon.
  18. Game was just postponed. Heard it on WFAN. No makeup date announced but everyone will be pushed back and Pettitte will pitch tomorrow.
