  1. Yeah, I guess your right, but I think I mentioned before that the Red Sox won the series fair and square and deserve everything that they won.
  2. For some reason I was just thinking about this and I want everyone to hear me out. I am not at all going to even attempt to defend what A-Rod did to Arroyo because it was 100% against the rules, but I believe that he should have been called safe. Now all of you who are about to exit out of this thread because of how crazy was I just said was, I ask you to read the whole post. When the play first happened A-Rod was originally allowed to stay at second and Jeter was allowed to score. The umpires the huddled up and decided that A-Rod (the batter) intentionally interfered with a ball in play. Whether an offensive player intentionally interfered with a ball in play is a judgement call. I believe but am not entire sure that the umpires are not allowed to huddle up to discuss a judgement call. The only reason I say this is that I am sure you are all familiar with the Jeffrey Maier incident. When the umpire Richie Garcia made a judgement call that the ball reached the stands on its own, the umpires never huddled up to discuss it. It is not like whether a home run is fair or foul because that is a "black and white" call. I believe that a player interfering with a ball in play is just as much a judgement call as balls and strikes. Keep in mind, by no stretch am I trying to say that the Red Sox did not deserve to beat the Yankees which they certainly did. All I am saying is that I am not sure if the play should have been reversed. I understand that this is water under the bridge, but I just keep hearing (especially on this site) that a lot of people talk about the play. I am just wondering if anyone who has more knowledge about the rule then I do, could tell me whether I am right or wrong.
  3. See Red, I do not know you and I do not know how big a Red Sox fan you are but if you think A-Rod chose not to come to the Red Sox because of money, then you are completely wrong. I think all Red Sox fans know that A-Rod begged the players union to let him take a 50% pay cut to play for the Red Sox. It was the union that wouldn't let him. I would tend to believe that Alex was devestated when he found out that he was not going to be a Red Sox. If anything it was the Red Sox front offices fault (although I'm not saying it was a bad decision) that Alex is not a Red Sox because they didn't want to pay him the extra money.
  4. I guess I'm just tired of how much all of the Red Sox fans hate A-Rod. It seems that every thread that has anything to do with the Yankees becomes an "A-Rod sucks thread". If I remember correctly the starter of this thread said something about Jeter not making the team, but nothing about Alex.
  5. Obviously that was stupid but think about how you would feel if your team was on the brink of blowing a 3-0 lead in the biggest rivalry in the history of sports. And by the way, why does it matter about who would win in a fight between Alex and Tex. Does that have anything to do with baseball?
  6. A-Rod is hitting over .300 in the clutch and just because he has made a few errors at third base (although I don't think he has made one in awhile doesn't mean he is a bad third basemen. If you were to watch Yankee games on a daily basis, and I don't know if any of you guys do, then you would see that Alex makes some terrific plays.
  7. Pitching is always the answer, especially for the Red Sox and the Yankees. Both teams have the pitchers that are capable of pitching gems every night. I think the Orioles and the Blue Jays are going to have a tough time hanging with the Red Sox and Yankees. Whichever teams gets consistently good pitching should be able to win the division. We should get a good taste of that directly after the All - Star break.
  8. A-Rod never really did anything that horrible to the Sox. There are so many former Yankees (Craig Nettles and Thurman Munson) that you should dislike more than A-Rod because they actually got into a great deal of fights with Red Sox players (ex. Nettles and Bill Lee, Munson and Carlton Fisk), while A-Rod was really only involved in 1 major incident.
  9. Is Schilling coming back directly after the All - Star break to start against the Yankees?
  10. I heard the ESPN announcers talking about the Sox acquiring Billy Wagner. Maybe that is your answer.
  11. By the way, if the Yankees starter can take the game seven innings i feel pretty confident in the Yankees bullpen, with Gordon and Rivera. Even if the bullpen takes over in the 7th Sturtze has been very good this year. It's when people like Scott Proctor and Jason Anderson are coming into the game is when i get worried.
  12. lol Schilling. I just watched the game and almost felt bad for you guys so I wanted to see your reactions. Just remember what Foulke did for the Red Sox when it counted in the postseason.
  13. I was out the particular game you guys are talking about and all the fans were chanting his name, not just because of the go ahead home run, but because he had a great week. By the way, why do all Red Sox fans hate curtain calls?
  14. If there is one think I know about David Wells is that he is a big game pitcher. He has pitched great in games such as: 1998 DS Game 1 1998 ALCS Game 1 1998 ALCS Game 5 2003 DS Game 4 2003 ALCS Game 5 Also in 2003 I remember a game he pitched against the Sox in Sept. when he stopped a big Yankee losing streak. He really is a very good pitcher and he never beats himself by walking people.
  15. I would be quick to say yes also, but did anyone here his quotes about retiring after his current contract is up?
  16. He is the youngest player to reach 400 homers, but does anyone think he has a legitimate shot at the record?
  17. The Yankees have a few problems but all I hear is a lot of "Yankees Suck". Well, at least give reason: certains pitchers, hitters, etc., because when you just say they suck there is no way to respond to that.
  18. But 4 of those losses came against the d-rays and that was when the yanks were struggling. Stuff like that isn't going to happen all year.
  19. Does anyone think that the Red Sox pitchers will pitch around Alex like it looks like more teams are beginning to do? I'm upset at Torre because I think with him batting in the fifth spot in the order he does not have enough protection, whether it's Tino, Posada, Giambi, Bernie, etc. Any opinions?
  20. If the games get inot a battle of the bullpens, which they usually do, i give the edge to the Yankees because Gordon and Rivera, although they have struggled against the Red Sox, have been untouchable lately, and Sturtze, who did not have trouble against the Red Sox last year, has also been good. Foulke has struggled for the Sox lately and so has Embree. All of that being said you can make a case for both teams in all three games. It should be a fun weekend.
  21. Both the Yanks and the Red Sox are very good teams. Neither one of them sucks and they have both been hot and cold this year. When the Yanks were losing all the Red Sox fans said the Yanks were "done" and obviously thats not true so we, as Yankee fans, can't say the Red Sox suck either. Right now it is a tight 4 team race and it should be close the hole ways, at least between the Yanks, Red Sox, Orioles. This year is a long way from over and we will see what happens.
  22. Not true. Canos's not hitting. Matsui's not hitting. Giambi (who played every game except Wed.) is not hitting and they gain 2 games on Baltimore (9GB - 7GB). And it's only May.
  23. It is possible but it is quite a bold statement to say that the Red Sox will not make the playoffs, but it is unfair to count the Yankees out. Although these last five games were not against terrific team the Yanks showed what they are capable of. There are still 127 games to go and to think that the Yanks aren't capable of making up seven games is really unfair.
  24. And by the way when you have someone like Manny on your team don't talk about people not being smart.
  25. Yet he does lead the AL in HR's and if he does that he can curse all he wants.
