    There were a few options that Phillippon and A-Rod had (a couple types of surgery or just rehab). This was not the only option. Phillippon was in favor of the decision that they made. Clearly he truly believes in it, and believes A-Rod will have full mobility.

    I see TheKilo's point, however I tend to agree with this one. The Yankees had images of Soriano flailing at pitches way out of the strike zone in the 2003 playoffs. He was particularly terrible in game 7 versus the Red Sox. Obviously they weren't going to go out and look to trade Soriano, but when presented with the opportunity to swap him for Alex Rodriguez it would have been a no-brainer no matter what.

    Bingo. I was about to post something very similar to this until I saw that you already had. We're sitting here debating his health, pretending like we know what we're talking about. A man who is more educated on the topic, and has more authority to speak on the topic than any of us, has offered his opinion. I trust him a little more than I trust any of our opinions. He is taking a chance by making the statements that he did, meaning he truly believes them, because if they turn out to be wrong he is going to look like a bit of a fraud (because of his supreme amount of confidence following the procedure). Could Phillippon be wrong? Absolutely. But he is qualified to speak on the topic than any of us, or the ESPN reporter that TheKilo quoted for that matter.

    I would be stunned if he didn't have the surgery in the next couple days and try to come right after the All Star Break. This isn't just about this year. It is about the next nine years, including this one. If he was going to be lost for the whole season, I might think otherwise, but this is a no brainer to me. They knew about his discomfort late last year, and, for whatever reason, did not have it looked at. They made a mistake then, don't make it worse now and put off the surgery.

    In my opinion Peyton Manning does exactly what jackson was talking about. He gets the most out of all the players around him.

    Rooting for the Giants and picking the Giants, but I'm a Giant's fan so I guessed that opinion is a little biased. However, I really do think they will be able to pull out the two wins at home. I'm hoping for the two home teams to win this weekend so the Giants will be playing Arizona in the divisional round. However, I see Philadelphia winning this weekend which would setup a NYG - PHI matchup. I wouldn't quite be so confident if that played out (still obviously think the Giants would get the job done), but of all the NFC teams in the playoffs the Eagles are the last one I want the Giants to face...

    I think it was over dramatized but I also think that everyone here has to understand that the stadium means a lot to certain people (see Gom's post). And Gom, great post. As for me, my fondest memories at Yankee Stadium were Game 4 of the 1999 World Series and Game 7 of the 2003 ALCS. With that said, I'm looking forward to the new stadium opening up.

    Ah, the old "get a life" insult. Very original. Where in the world did you come up with that one? Gom, I understand you're a fan, and you have every right to act like one. The only thing is that either you thing the team is poorly constructed or not. Whether they're playing well at a given time or whether they're playing poorly at a given time really has no bearing on how well constructed the team is. EDIT: I had spare time between my morning classes, I was bored, and I was on talksox when there wasn't much activity. I went back through a couple old game threads...

    Wow!!! Textbook game played by Roger at 6-5 off serve to take the second set. His points at 30-0 and 40-0 were great to watch. One more set to go.

    Roger Federer vs. Andy Murray Murray has played extremely well, and benefited the last two days from Nadal's annual fatique once the hard court season begins. However, as great as Murray has been, Federer played a fantastic match against Djokovic and I see that continuing today. Federer in four sets.
