  1. This is a joke, right?
  2. That's all Hughes does lol. He's always wild in the strike zone. Fortunately, when he's going well, his FB has enough life to get away with it more often than not.
  3. Oh I'm with you there ... no need to make it into something that big. And no surprise there. Hughes was good in the first two innings ... not so much after that. Not going to be able to beat the Red Sox with Hughes and AJ.
  4. There are, but they aren't nearly as direct. I think it's a significant difference.
  5. Well now this is beginning to separate itself into two separate arguments. I'll take one at a time. On the idea that hitting batters doesn't matter: This one is pretty simple. It's dangerous. A well placed fastball can end someone's season. Batters get hit all the time, it's unavoidable. But there's no reason to do it initially. Pitchers can control the inner third and stop batters from diving out over the plate without hitting them. On the difference between Pedro hitting people and Gibson/Drysdale hitting people: I'll be as direct as possible. When Pedro did it (or any recent day AL pitch for that matter) there's an element of cowardice involved, because it leaves no opportunity for retribution. Not the case with Gibson and Drysdale.
  6. Possibly, but they still had to step in there ... which is the point.
  7. Bob Gibson and Don Drysdale had to hit.
  8. Montero tomorrow. Very exciting.
  9. I don't have a real issue with it, but Pedro didn't exactly shy away from the occasional hit batter. I assume this is what Jacko is referring to.
  10. I think it is necessary, because my main point is really about this game. Let me ask you this. Considering the fact that all pitchers have gotten that the pitch off the outer edge against lefties for the first 8.5 innings, do you think Mo should get it in the ninth? If the answer is yes, then I don't think people really have a complaint about tonight's game (although overall complaints still stand). If the answer is no, then we just disagree.
  11. There's no denying that Mo usually gets a huge strike zone, and tonight was no exception. But I think the umpire was consistently calling pitches strikes that were off the outer edge against lefties.
  12. Clearly the board doesn't see it that way lol. But tonight was basically a classic Lackey start.
  13. I really don't think CC looked all that bad. The Sox hit some balls hard, but literally everything they hit found space. And when you strike out ten guys in six innings (and Peddy twice) you're doing something right.
  14. Soriano looked awful. Very fortunate.
  15. Jacko ... I'd be surprised if they went to D-Rob for a third straight day.
