  1. Between their struggles and final month schedule, the odds of the Yankees finishing ahead of the Red Sox is very slim. It's all about staying ahead of the Rays and Angels/Rangers at this point.
  2. If he's not an issue than what is he? In his five starts this month he has pitched to a 5.34 ERA and hitters have a .821 OPS against him. That's terrible.
  3. Haha with the amount of time AJ spends glaring in at the umpires after clear balls, I'm willing to bet they're more than thrilled to watched him get shelled each time out.
  4. If this was the call with Vlad at the plate, you must've missed the replay. My initial reaction was the same as yours, but YES's replay showed that he was clearly out. Vlad started his slide too early, and Martin tagged him just before he touched home plate.
  5. Absolutely, but it's something we all knew (including the Yankees) was coming.
  6. This is probably their worst series since 2008 and hopefully for the Yankees this isn't the beginning of the end for their starting pitching. Fortunately they've built up a decent sized lead in the Wild Card standings.
  7. It's a big loss, but Webster has been the team's top corner since the Super Bowl run.
  8. I completely agree that AJ is the obvious (and correct) choice to be the odd man out ... I just don't think the Yankees will do it. As for Nova, I agree, the slider has been the difference maker.
  9. Except that the Celtics had beaten the Heat each time in the regular season prior to that last meeting ... which falls in line with the Sox beating the Yanks for the better part of the regular season.
  10. The award should go to Bautista or Pedroia, although, as many have said, I could also see Gonzalez winning it.
  11. It hasn't really been since then though. That outing was 7/24 vs OAK. In his next four outings (7/26 vs SEA, 7/31 vs BAL, 8/1 vs CWS, and 8/5 vs BOS) he threw the ball as good as ever, giving up just one infield hit. All of those those runs (and it's 4, not 6) have been in his last three outings, where he was definitely bad in each. What concerned me today was that after the HR to Branyon, he didn't even feel comfortable throwing his cutter in to the lefties. He threw every single pitch from that point forward away. It's likely just a rough patch ... he goes through a couple bad weeks every single year, but it's certainly worth keeping an eye on going forward.
  12. Mo looks awful. Cutter that never cut.
  13. Weird AB against Trumbo. Got squeezed on 1-2 and then what looked like a pretty clear missed check swing call on 2-2. Didn't end up mattering though.
  14. I think Downs really outsmarted himself there. Instead of feeding Cano a heavy diet of breaking balls (like he did against Granderson and has done against Cano in the past), he tried to pound him inside with fastballs.
  15. He didn't look hurt at all and the trainer never came out. I just think, right or wrong, that Girardi felt Martin had a better chance to score from second on a single than Cervelli did.
  16. Haha I don't think that decision was made between his AB and Gardner's AB.
  17. The decision to pinch run Martin for Cervelli is odd for a couple different reasons. And I'm not sure they should be giving Fernando Rodney free outs.
  18. Bad job there by Girardi/Jeter. No reason for him not to take second.
