  1. As far as the post season rotation goes, I think Wake has solidified his place in the bullpen. Game 1 starter has to be Schilling with Pedro number 2. After that I like Arroyo over Lowe. The corn rowed kid has flashed some very nice breaking stuff in good locations and he has proven himself in some pressure situations (Friday). Plus I don't like the "all defense-no offense" infield Francona puts in for Lowe unless we up 2-0 in a series. Still I think Francona will make Lowe the number 3.
  2. Tito has proven to have a late hook on the pitchers except for Arroyo. Three days in a row he's come out for a change and the game is already way out of hand. Is he talking with Wallace? Is he too busy looking at James' stat sheet? And why isn't he playing Dave Roberts? This guy had 33 stolen bases with the Dodgers in the first half. The last time we saw him he was only scoring the tying run from second in the bronx on Friday. The guy can make things happen. I really like Kapler, but Roberts needs playing time in right.
  3. This was brutal. 8 LOB, 2 E's, Wake looking terrible and top it all the MFY lose tonight. Time to put the brakes on this skid before the Angels get close.
  4. I'm still angry over that 88 mph high fastball he gave to Sheffield in the first inning. Even so, I hope we do re-sign Pedro. He is getting through this season without injury, although he did take his traditional, extended all star break in the Dominican Republic. This year he has pitched his heart out and while he is not a "flame thrower" anymore he has showed that he is now a better "pitcher" as he gets older. From a sentimental standpoint, I do not want to see him go like Clemens did. I think this management is aware that keeping Pedro is in the best interest of the franchise.
  5. If any player had a weekend to forget it was Jason Varitek. 0 for 10 with 8 K's. His bat looked incredibly slow. I'm wondering if fatigue is becomign a factor. at 32 years old, he's currently on pace to catch a little less than last year's 137 games.
  6. I've been following the Sox for so long I would love to see them have a runaway season, then rip through the playoffs, setting up their number 1 starter for each series. Back on to the topic I also don't buy into the "they suck" stuff. Hating them only focuses more attention on them; it's a waste of time and money. Still, I do hope they lose this week, because they are in first.
  7. I would like to try this sometime. Maybe that's what heaven is.
  8. Back to the ugly reality of today. As good as Lieber pitched, this loss is all on Lowe. His head and his arm were not in the game.
  9. Adams should be only warming up bullpen catchers. Where's the rain?
  10. Finally...Lowe is gone. It's still early.
  11. C'mon Tito, time for Lowe to go...he's got nothing.
  12. Byung Hyun Kim apparently is working on coming back this month. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/reds..._pitch_in_soon/ I can't believe the Sox are even considering bringing him back this year. This is one guy I do not want to see in a Sox uniform now.
  13. After Friday it looks like Quantrill will be the guy to come out the bullpen first on Saturday. Gordon I think would be available for an inning Saturday. Myers warmed up for the Sox Friday but I expect Tito to go to Mendoza first if he needs him.
  14. I liked his stuff last year out of the pen in the playoffs. He nutted up tonight.
  15. Let's give Tito credit, he did a good job tonight. He stuck with Arroyo after the rain delay. Embree and Timlin were effective even though Timlin seemed to miss Tek's targets. Roberts to pinch run for Trot was a no brainer, but he did make the move. And inserting three gold glovers in the infield for the 9th was perfect.
  16. This is very good point to be raised. By winning the division the Sox would face Santana twice in a short series. On the other hand with the wild card they lose home field advantage against Oakland, but they've hit Zito pretty well and Mulder is not the pitcher he was last year. Still, I think the only thing you can do is win as many games as you can and that means going for the AL East title.
  17. The depth this team has is really remarkable and Roberts ia a big part of it. As soon as Trot walked in the 9th I was screaming for Roberts to pinch run, and Tito sent him out. All the "defensive purposes" moves in the 9th were great...three gold glovers in the infield.
  18. This was a great win, even though it means only a game in the race. The fruit bat gets beat in the 9th!! Trot starts it off with the walk. Cabrera seemed locked in to go the other way with Rivera right from the start. I still can't believe Lofton let Damon's ball drop. Manny had the big play on Cairo...NESN said two Red Sox fans in the front row in left field for Manny's catch were escorted out by cops. And in the 9th...Tito puts in three gold glovers in the infield with Foulke on the mound...sweet dreams tonight!
  19. Thursday was "Coin Toss Day." The one game playoff (if necessary) to decide the AL East would be in the Bronx. If the Sox and Angels tie for the wild card, the game is at Fenway.
  20. Schilling was outstanding getting his 20th at Fenway. And the pen rested except for Adams, who should get plenty of rest this weekend.
  21. Trot was 2 for 4 last night. I have a feeling he may come up big this weekend in the Bronx.
  22. An ugly win is a win, that's about all that can be said about last night.
  23. Weather forecast for NY this week: http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findwe...ork%2C+New+York
  24. From Wednesday's Boston Herald: "The Sox chose not to use Monday, their last off day of the season, to arrange their rotation for the upcoming Yankees series. Francona did not see the need. ``We did that a long time ago. We lined it up the way we wanted to line up,'' he said. ``We looked at the whole last part of the year and we were comfortable with what we were doing. ``We have our five starters and I just think the way they fall is the right way to do it. If you start playing around too much, you're asking for trouble. We have confidence in all of them and think they all deserve that.'' . . . "
  25. I can hear Pedro laughing now. Sheff knows he'll get pounded inside this weekend by Sox pitchers. So now in his mind he can go charge the mound after he gets plucked. Let him, the suspension can only help the Sox. The fact is, they are not playing great ball and he feels he needs to fire up his team. It's all hot air.
