  1. The way Hurricane Ivan is tracking, it's very possible two of the three games in the bronx this weekend could be rained out.
  2. Both the MFY and the Sox have shown a knack for stumbling down the stretch here. 22-0 was no fluke, and neither is losing September games to rookie pitchers.
  3. Sox are now 0-7 against rookie pitchers they've faced for the first time. It's a good thing the MFY don't have any pitchers at Columbus to bring up.
  4. Three back but only two in the loss column. I'm hoping Ortiz is back tonight, even against the lefty Kazmir. I also hope Dale Sveum knows who's is playing centerfield for the Devil Rays.
  5. A split of the 6 games with the MFY not only keeps the Sox out of first but may also cut the wild card lead over the Angels. The doubleheader in Baltimore on Oct. 2 can also be a problem to winning the division.
  6. Going with the flow and seeing what happens doesn't sound like managing to me.
  7. Nixon is signed through 2006 at 6.5 mill a year. It's possible Theo may look to unload some salary, but with his health this season, I doubt the Sox would get good value in a trade.
  8. I just don't think the Sox give all this money to Schilling only give the ball to Bronson Arroyo in the Bronx in September.
  9. I have to agree with empire. This isn't May or June. I'm wondering if the Orioles were ahead when Francona made out the lineup card? If they were maybe Francona is already settling for the wild card. Tomorrow is a day off for crying out loud.
  10. Think this one over. The way the rotation is set, Schilling will miss the MFY next weekend. Right now it looks like Arroyo, Lowe and Pedro. It seems to me that somehow Francona needs to work out the rotation in a way that Schilling gets to pitch in the Bronx. Schilling will pitch Thursday for his 20th win against Tampa, but it's much more important that he throws 7 or 8 strong innings Friday rather than mow down the Devil Rays for number 20 on Thursday.
  11. I'm wondering whether Ortiz asked to sit out or if Tito gave him the day off for his sore shoulder. This is a pennant race and tomorrow is an off day. Apparently he was ok enough to pinch hit.
  12. how so? I don't believe in curses, but you have to admit there is an air of negativity in the bronx with the Brown incident and the PR disaster of trying to get a forfeit from Tampa. I do think pro athletes can turn that around, and playing the Devil Rays can make any team feel good.
  13. There's only a curse if you believe in it. However, there sure seems to be some bad karma swirling around the MFY, and it was only fed by them looking for a forfeit from the Devil Rays. I also heard they made Ruth's daughter buy a ticket to a game. Has anyone heard this story? If it's true, that could be a curse breaker for superstitious fans.
  14. Selig has apparently denied the MFY request to have the Devil Rays forfeit the first game of the doubleheader Monday. How low can George sink? Refusing to acknowledge the Devil Rays players' desire to remain with their families until Frances passed by, is simply despicable. This only shows how desperate George has become to steal any win in September. Maybe if the Devil Rays plane crashed while taking off in the storm the MFY would have asked for Tampa to forfeit both games. The next time they do their "God Bless America" tribute to NY in the 7th inning, it wouldn't hurt to show a little compassion and sympathy to the rest of the country, especially the state of Florida which has endured two hurricances and is looking down the barrel of a third.
  15. Watching Kotsay blow a gasket was fun. Somehow we always seem to get into the A's heads. Two infield hits on pure speed in 9th helped blow the game wide open. I can't remember the last time I saw a Red Sox team start an inning that way. Watching Ortiz sit on an 2-0 fastball with the bases loaded was sheer joy. Mondoza looked solid in the 9th.
  16. We need Damon back in the lineup. 8 for 13 lifetime against Zito.
  17. I agree with most of what's said here. The comeback fell short but it's ok, we lose no ground on the AL East. On the bright side Ortiz comes back and cracks a homer and Mendoza looked good, we need him down the stretch. Mirabelli has been very good all year catching Wake, but clearly we missed Tek's bat, along with Damon. Stupid call in the 9th prevented Manny from coming up with a man on.
  18. Wasdin pitched a very good game, but Pedro was incredicle tonight. This team is pure magic. 2-0 with no Damon and Ortiz. It seems we can win with any lineup that Tito throws out there. And Timlin seems to be pitching better. 10 in a row!
  19. I was at Wrigley last Friday when the Cubs played Houston. I saw three Red Sox home jerseys from where I was sitting. Next year will be awesome when we invade the Midway!
  20. This is beyond belief. Can it be the MYF are feeling pressure?
  21. I'm not worried about the MFY. I'm worried about how I'll get tickets to Wrigley.
  22. Mark your calendar this will be the trip of all trips. 2005 Schedule (tentative) Red Sox at Wrigley June 10-12 http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/reds...yankees_for_05/ The schedule now has us opening up at the MFY April 4 and 6, then they come to Fenway April 12 and 13. Also Red Sox at St. Louis June 6-8 and the Reds and Rockies come to Fenway.
  23. Trot went 0 for 3 tonight with a K. Pawsox beat Rocheter 9-3.
  24. Lowe had a great late breaking curve ball tonight. He actually had a coupel of points in the game when he could have imploded, but he held it together. Roberts looked like a car wreck in right at one moment and then flashes some serious leather for a double play. Cabrerra made a great pick on the short hop throw by Tek to nail Glaus in the 9th. Myers does his job on one lefty hitter. Manny gets no hits and Ortiz sits and we still win! 9 in a row!
  25. Remember it was the Tribe who beat the MFY and helped us out on the last day in '78. In fact, didn't the Guardians beat them in "Major League"? As Cerano said in that movie, "Keep bats warm". Go Tribe!
