Have you seen him play recently? He can't hit good fastballs, and he has to cheat to hit average ones. He's extremely vulnerable to breaking balls, because of his inablity to hit the fastball. He's also 34 years old, has old player skills, and has the body of Mo Vaughn. This guy is cooked. Players like Ortiz see their numbers evaporate extremely swiftly.
As for his June/July stats, David Ortiz has five of his fifteen HR's which are considered lucky HR's. He leads the AL in that category. The power just is not there this year. He's been a terrible burden on the Red Sox this year, and I hope he isn't asked back in 2010.
