  1. Can someone fill me in on the whole Dodger Blues Board thing? or point me to the thread where the battle started? As for Mattyboy, I think insurance will cover him this year. He'll never actually pitch for the Sox again thank GOD. But best case scenario is that he's packaged for a bag of balls and someone takes on his salary towards the end of the year.
  2. in answer to your question: yes
  3. C'mon Duderino. Need the whole story!
  4. super sweet. that leaves a ton of room for a closer.
  5. 153 km/h?
  6. I just hope he's cool with being in Boston.
  7. You do have to give the Sox FO some credit here. Boras wanted 'over 100 million' in salary for the guy and the Sox got him for 52 million. The posting fee? It's as simple as this. They posted 51 milliion so that they were the only team negotiating for him. They basically posted that money so that the other 29 teams couldn't bid against them for his services. If it was a bidding war with another team - any other team - the signing price would be much more than 52 million especially in todays market. Waaaaaay more.
  8. what's up with his yellow tooth? we paid 51 million for this???
  9. I think it's Clemens next. Schilling Clemens Matsuzaka Beckett Papelbon backups: Wake Lester
  10. Oh my god. How the hell...?
  11. I hear that... but Boras wants guaranteed money. And status. What I would love. Just love. Is for the Sox to get Matsu for 17 million/year but to then back out of the Drew deal. f*** Boras and claim something came up on the physical.
  12. So where is this announcement supposed to be? NESN, ESPN, ESPNnews, NECN, MLBtv?
  13. I'm just really glad Manny is looking like he's staying. That lineup would suck 5-9 without him. As for Nancy, at 14m/year for 5 years, they had better sign Matsuzaka. If they don't sign him because a couple of million a year, they will look pretty crazy.
  14. Sweet! Lester as closer?
  15. Thanks for the update. That is strange. Just for shits I'd love to see Foulke accept. But I don't get the Gonzo one. Do the Sox get anything in return? I don't know anything about the new CBA so is there a draft pick involved? I'd die laughing if there was.
  16. Damn. I was hoping he'd come back to Atlanta.. There were serious rumblings down here of bringing back both Glavine and Maddux for a couple more years to pitch with Smoltzy. People were talking about buying season tickets! (Ok, one guy I know, but still). Turner Field would have possibly sold out a couple of games next season just to watch the old guys back pitching together. But still, being on the block to be sold, it's understandable why the Braves didn't make a deal. Unfortunately it almost sounds as if the Braves didn't even make an offer. Too bad, but they are not allowed to spend right now unless it makes the franchise more attractive for the future - not the past. I could bitch about the Braves all day long. Oh well. 10.5/yr is still a lot for an old fart like Glavine. Another reason the Mets will have problems next year.
  17. Last year was the worst offensive year of Trots life if you ask me. The previous two years were injury filled. I'm on board as saying he could definitely have a bounce back year (like Nomar). This entire "steroid era" has screwed me up. I can't tell if players are coming or going or just adjusting anymore. But, hell, it ain't my money. Trot as the #4 outfielder? Damn right I'll take it.
  18. Thank you. Who have the Sox signed so far? :dunno:
  19. I hope Foulke does well there. Good luck real WS MVP!
  20. First, I hope Glavine comes back to Atlanta. That would be very cool. About Lilly, a notorious Sox killer, I think the Red Sox should make a bid for Lilly as the #4-5 starter. A base rotation of Schilling, Beckett, Matsuzaka, Papelbon, Lilly and Wakefield I would be totally confident in.
  21. Sweet! I love speculation like this. So here goes. Schilling 17-11, 3.90 era. Leaves it all on the table in his final season. Matsuzaka 15-8, 3.80 era. He will throw a lot of pitches and be out of games in the middle of the 6th inning. He'll get a lot of no decisions. Beckett 16-12, 4.30 era. Until he changes his mindset or gets hurt, he is what he is. Papelbon 8-4, 3.77 era as a starter Wakefield 5-4 4.65 era as a starter TBD - 8-10, 5.23 era Wake starts the season as closer with Papelbon in the rotation. Wake gets 26 save opportunities and goes 2-5 with 10 blown saves but does have 16 saves by the time Gagne can pitch. Gagne comes of the DL in June and pitches great for a month. He goes 1-1 with a 3 era and has 7 saves, then gets injured just after the trade deadline. Papelbon is then thrust back into the closer role and collects 15 out of 19 saves (2007 total: 10-5, 3.52 era, 15 saves). Wake goes to the rotation to fill Paps spot and wins his games (5-4 4.65 era - 2007 total: 7-10, 4.47 era, 16 saves) . Sox come in second to the Yanks and get the wildcard. They win the ALDS against TX but lose the ALCS to the Cleveland who wins the World Series over the Cubs.
  22. I don't think his job's on the line this year. I really don't. Francona will go before Theo will. Hell, Theo just signed his new contract a couple of months ago. The owner loves him. He's safe.
