  1. I don't care. It was great to hear. If I cared............:banned:
  2. ahahahahaa! Nice background audio.
  3. Boston (47-35) at Texas (43-39), 8:05 pm EDT http://i.a.cnn.net/si/images/baseball/mlb/players/6099.jpghttp://www.giantsequoia.com/assets/TransparentSpacer.gifhttp://i.a.cnn.net/si/images/baseball/mlb/players/5187.jpg Matt Clement http://www.public.iastate.edu/~aslagell/sumr212/spacer.gifChan Ho Park 9 - 2, 3.82 ERAhttp://www.public.iastate.edu/~aslagell/sumr212/spacer.gif 8 - 2, 5.50 ERAhttp://www.familymatters.tv/navbar/spacer.gif ARLINGTON, Texas (Ticker) - Matt Clement will have a chance to show manager Terry Francona what could have been when the Boston Red Sox take on the Texas Rangers on Wednesday in the rubber match of their three-game set. In his first season with the Red Sox , Clement (9-2, 3.82 ERA) has anchored the defending champions' pitching staff, which has been without ace Curt Schilling for most of the season while also dealing with the loss of Pedro Martinez via free agency. Despite Clement's efforts, Francona, who will manage the American League in the All-Star Game in Detroit on Tuesday, chose Bartolo Colon of Anaheim rather than his own righthander for the squad. One of the factors in Francona's decision may have been watching Clement suffer through his worst loss of the season on Friday, when he surrendered a season-high eight runs in 5 2/3 innings vs. Toronto. The Rangers counter with Chan Ho Park (8-2, 5.50), who can match his 2002 win total - his best since signing with Texas as a free agent prior to that season - with a victory. Park allowed two runs and five hits in seven innings to pick up a win at Seattle on Friday. After closer Keith Foulke gave up two runs in the ninth of Monday's 6-5 loss, the Red Sox bounced back with a 7-4 win on Tuesday. Manny Ramirez belted his 20th career grand slam to move into sole possesion of second place all time and Mike Timlin recorded his second save of the season. Foulke was back in Boston getting his ailing knees checked out and will not be with the team on Wednesday. Boston Red Sox J. Damon CF E. Renteria SS D. Ortiz DH M. Ramirez LF T. Nixon RF K. 4. Just looking at the splits... This year, even though he's been hit pretty well, he's done a great job in innings 1-3. In the first inning this year, he's given up 1 hit to 10 batters, struck out 6 and walked none. In innings 1-3 this year, he's given up 8 hits in 34 AB (.235), 10k, and 1 walk. Last year's stats: First inning: 29 hits in 121 AB (.240), 9 runs, 25K and 5 walks. Innings 1-3: 75 hits in 354 AB (.212), 19 runs, 83K and 13 walks. I'm liking the idea right now. According to the EEI pregame, Foulke will have arthroscopic surgery on his left knee and should be back in 4-6 weeks.
  5. Wow. I really didn't believe this thread when I first read it. It's interesting enough and having Schilling back in any way, shape or form is good. But damn, it better not be permanent. My guess is that he'll take us up to the trade deadline in the role (or until the closer spot is filled). Absolutely no later. My only question is: If he's having trouble with the velocity of his fastball, how does this help? Will he start warming up in the 6th inning every night??? :dunno:
  6. He's not right. I think a trip to the DL would be nice when Schill pitches next...
  7. Here we go again with Miller. 2-0 Rangers. This is why he would suck in the bullpen.
  8. Miller back in TX for the first time since he left the Astros? Could be interesting...
  9. At the half way point, I'm pretty happy with this team. Especially considering Schilling (if healthy) will be the single best addition to any team this year at the mid point...... Remember when we got Wells and Clement and lost Pedro and Lowe? Some were worried about the trade-off, some were curious. If last year was the recipe for success with the starting rotation, then it seems the Sox made some smart moves with the people they brought in to replace the lost pieces. Also, remember Wells was supposted to replace Pedro's spot and Clement was to replace Lowe's spot in the rotation. This year, the duo of Lowe and Pedro are a combined 14-11 with their new teams. Each has a great ERA (Lowe: 3.90 and Pedro: 2.74) Clement and Wells this year are a combined 15-6 with ERAs of 3.8 and 5.04. Last year with Pedro and Lowe, they wound up 30-21 with ERAs of (Lowe) 5.42 and (Pedro) 3.90. Actually, last year at the All Star break, Lowe was 7-8 with a 5.57 ERA and Pedro was 9-3 with a 3.67 ERA (combined total: 16-11). I guess the point to be drilled home is that Wells and Clement make up for Pedro and Lowe in the rotation quite well. Better then most thought if you base it on results... Once Schilling comes back and leads the staff the way he should, we are going to be just fine in the second half. I guess the next question is whether Wake and Miller can hold the line in the 4-5 spots once Arroyo goes to the pen. This year Wake is 7-6 with a 3.94 ERA compared to last year's 5-5, 4.17. Miller (compared with Arroyo's stats in the #5 slot last year) is 2-2 with a 5.14 ERA. Arroyo at the break last year was 3-7 with a 4.09 ERA. So essentially you could make the case that the main difference between this and last year's starting rotation comes down to comparing Arroyo to Schilling's stats at the break. Last year Schill was 11-4 at the break with a 3.16 era. Arroyo is 6-5 with a 4.15 ERA. By the way, I'm OK with Arroyo to the pen after Schilling comes back. He's probably the only one of the starters who is good in the first 1-2 innings of a game. The other guys need and inning or two to get loose. Arroyo should be good out of the pen (the next Brandon Lyon?) . Now I know all you stat-geeks will get all over this post with yer ERA+ numbers and WHIP bs, but results speak volumes. Wow, what a pointless ramble. Happy 4th!
  10. The trick for Clement is to see if he can do this the entire year. I think so.
  11. Ahaha. He said manhandled Joe Torre on RJ:
  12. Friday was a great day.... I woke up late. My DSL was down. Got nothing done at work. Got caught in a lightning storm and got rained all over. Got home just as my car battery died. My DSL was still out. Cut my finger on a door handle. Found a spider in my coffee mug. Sox lose 15-2.
  13. For the National League side I just clicked on the first name I saw. I think my ALL Star teams read like this: American League Damon Bellhorn Ortiz Manny Tek Millar Nixon Mueller Bellhorn VS National League Bagwell Bigio Barmes Alfonso Ausmus Abreu Berkman Burrell I think the AL could win that game.
  14. It's like 9am there right now (8pm here). Let's hope not. BTW, did you know the sun came up today in Japan at 4:29 AM and goes down at 7:01 pm (JST). Those are some long ass days.
  15. I voted all Red Sox :harhar: .
  16. Well, looks like he screwed up the trade. Haha if the Yanks wanted to get the deal done. On another note, Stanton and Quantril are being let go. http://www.nypost.com/sports/yankees/49373.htm
  17. I want my Belli Backup, Belli Backup, Belli Backup. I want my Belli Backup, Belli Backup, Belli Backup.
  18. I think he makes close to 6 million this year. I just love how Red Sox and Yankee fans think that we can just "trade away" our players for good prospects because all the other teams would just love to get our underperforming old expensive guys..... And even if we do trade them for prospects somehow, again, who will fill that players spot on the mlb roster???? Embree serves a purpose even if he gets killed. At the very least he's a warm arm in the pen. You'll see that today when he's the first one in out of the bullpen because of last night. Do you really want an unproven rookie to be your closer in the playoffs? Calvin Shiraldi anyone?
  19. Well, Foulke and Embree are the two biggest problems so far this year in relief. Most of the other problems with the bullpen will be ironed out once Arroyo (or Wake) goes down there. Embree should be the easiest to replace since he's not a closer. We need a new lefty in the bullpen. Foulke I'm worried about because, well, he looks like he's pitching hurt. If he is hurt, we need to get a healthy closer. If he's not, I say give him some more time. The Sox should know if he's hurting or not. If he is healthy and continues to struggle, I'd try Mantei out as closer before dipping into the market. But if there's a Shoppach for Guardado deal in the works, they should do it anyway. "Oy".. I can't believe I'm still so pissed about last night's game.
  20. Was it on this board I read something about Shoppach for Guardado?
  21. I WAS responsible for that loss. That's because I'm gay and deserve that. Zenny should start the game threads untill they lose on his watch.
  22. I knew this would happen. I just knew.
  23. I know he's getting hit tomorrow. I call it.
  24. :dunno: Is it just me or does Victor Martinez look like Pedro? Are they related? O's on the comeback, 3-4.
