  1. it was just on EEI
  2. Ahhh. The shitlist for Red Sox fans grows longer and longer. How long until Papi becomes a "cancer" in the clubhouse. Fools.
  3. It wouldn't surprise me, but I checked around (mlb/rotoworld/espn) and found no confirmation. That should be interesting in Yankee stadium. Lefties hit better off him than righties do - and it's been that way since he got to Boston.
  4. I hate to say it but, yeah. I mean, Mueller is probably my personal fav on the team, but that move just makes more sense if you ask me. I wouldn't be happy to see Mueller go, but... We need pitching We have Youk for 3rd We need a lefty in the pen and until this morning, I didn't know this tid bit. "The 29-year-old lefthander arrived for this weekend's series in Boston having faced 469 lefthanded hitters during the last four seasons, and Romero had allowed an extra-base hit only 11 times. Only four times had he allowed a home run. Really." I really don't want to break up the whole Manny/Ortiz thing either. Who'll give Papi anything to hit with Olerude or Cameron or Huff hitting behind him??
  5. I think it's the other way around.. I think radio leaves all the imagery up to your imagination. Sort of reminds me of the first time I saw a picture of Joe and Jerry. I always thought Jerry was a skinny, old, grandfatherly guy with grey hair and a beard . In reality he's just a fat slob with a cheesy hawaiian shirt.
  6. This has to be the dumbest thing I've read on this board in a long time. The biggest cancer to this team is it's stupid fans. Nomar was hurt last year and Manny's having another MVP type year. What the hell is wrong with you people? ughghghghgggggg
  7. When will you guys realise that Manny is not the problem with this team? Pitching is the problem and Theo should be focussing on that. Without Manny this team would not be in first place by 2.5 games right now. Manny has a "Manny Moment" a few times a year. So what? He certainly wins us far more games than he loses us. To put it real simple so some of you will understand: This team will not be as good if they trade Manny. Four marginal players cannot fill his shoes in the lineup. And don't even bring up the Nomar trade as an example. He was hurt all year last year. Manny this year is only leading the league in home runs and RBI. I hate this time of year in Boston. It a perfect storm of media whipping the fans up into frenzy over some minor ******** thing then shipping a star out of town. Gee that's never happened before.
  8. Manny money costing Mets $64 million owed Ramirez kills 3-way deal BY ADAM RUBIN AND BILL MADDEN DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITERS HOUSTON - A blockbuster three-team trade that would have landed Manny Ramirez in Flushing was ultimately nixed by the Mets last night because they would have had to inherit the remaining $64 million on the moody Red Sox slugger's contract. The trade, which was actively discussed all day yesterday, would have sent Ramirez along with Tampa Bay closer Danys Baez to the Mets, with Braden Looper, Mike Cameron and Tampa Bay lefty slugger Aubrey Huff going to the Red Sox. The Devil Rays then were to get Red Sox pitching prospect Anibal Sanchez and a top prospect from the Mets, believed to be Lastings Milledge. "This deal was very close to happening," a high-placed baseball source familiar with the negotiations told the Daily News last night. "When you think about it, despite Manny's money, it's unbelievable the Mets would back out of this. It would've gotten them into the playoffs and been a bonanza for their TV network next year." Because of all of those potential upsides for the Mets, there was a chance the deal might yet be revived, although a Boston source told The News that the Red Sox were not prepared to pay any of the money owed Ramirez. Ramirez will be a 10/5 player after this year - 10 years in the majors, five with one team - and will have veto power on trades after this season. He entered the weekend atop the American League in homers (28) and RBI (92), but recently requested a trade, citing privacy issues, according to reports out of Boston. With the nonwaiver trading deadline arriving at 4 p.m. tomorrow, the Mets have been searching for a big bat to add to the lineup as well as bullpen help, both of which would be addressed. The 27-year-old Baez, the Rays' closer, has a 5-3 record, 19 saves and a 3.18 ERA. On other fronts, one Mets official described the chances of landing Rangers second baseman Alfonso Soriano as a "super longshot." Recent discussions also have been held with the Pirates about closer Jose Mesa and first baseman Daryle Ward, for prospects that could include Double-A catcher Mike Jacobs or reliever Matt Lindstrom, an NL source said, but those talks have been casual because the Mets haven't determined the direction they want to go. Omar Minaya, on a conference call with reporters before yesterday's Mets-Astros game, didn't assign any odds to the Mets making an acquisition - major or minor. "Hey guys, if you're talking, you have a chance to get something done," Minaya said. "I will tell you that my staff, we are working together here, and we plan to stay on the phones all the way through the end of the trading deadline. "I'm open to anything, but I will tell you what we acquire has to be better than what we have right now. Our club is a funny team. Our club can play very good at times and can go out and play like the first two games in Colorado (when the Mets mustered six combined runs in two losses at the hitter-friendly park). I think it's fair to say we've got to get more offense and we have to try to improve the pitching, meaning the bullpen in general." Minaya said the Mets, like other buyers, are somewhat hamstrung by the lack of difference-makers on the market. "The reality is, I think you guys have seen with this market for a while now, is really there's not much out there that makes a big difference or impact," Minaya said. In his four full seasons with the Red Sox, Ramirez averaged .321 with 39 home runs and 117 RBI. And while his erratic fielding has often forced the Red Sox to go with defensive replacements late in games, he also was the only Sox player to receive a standing ovation at Fenway Park last year for a fielding play, a brilliant diving catch down the line. Last year was his best with Boston, when he helped the Sox win their first championship in 86 years. He batted .308 with 43 home runs and 130 RBI and was named World Series MVP after he hit .412 against the Cardinals. Willie Randolph, said earlier in the day there would be no issues keeping him in line. "If Manny were playing with me, that'd be fine," the manager said. "Just like Pedro is fine."
  9. The Red Sox without Manny will not make the playoffs. David's numbers will also be hurt because he'll have no protection. Huff? Cameron? Give me a break. According to ESPN the Manny deal is too complicated to get done before tomorrow. Thank GOD.
  10. In a nutshell, since Monday.... Monday: Tampa wins in extra innings off Schilling. It sucked Tuesday, Nixon pulls a muscle in his side and is going to be out for some time. Clement gets nailed up side the head with a liner (and is OK even after I thought he was dead). Sox win in what could be the game of the year in extra innings.. Wednesday Manny refused to play even with Trot hurting and the Sox win anyway. Thursday - off. I watched the Braves win at Turner Field and got drunk. Tonight...... win. I think that's correct, though I'm really drunk and could be wrong :dunno: .
  11. Now how can Theo go and trade Billy Mueller for Romero after that??? hehehee
  12. It really does get better with age.. An incredible year. An incredible accomplishment... I'd have bumped this thread, but it's closed (thank god) http://www.talksox.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1334&page=4&pp=15
  13. This could be a turning point game in a lot of ways. It really affects the trade situation if Clement is gone more than 2 weeks. Trot looks out for a while.... strained oblieque (sp?) muscles are the joke of all injuries - nobody knows how long it will take to heal. :thumbdown Kapler should be ready by Saturday I guess. On the bright side, Manny D looked great.
  14. I couldn't watch the replay just now but I heard the sound. And I'm serious, I heard the crack of the bat and a crack sound when it hit his head. Ehhhhhh. God I hope I heard wrong.
  15. Holy s*** Clement got nailed. This is really bad. He seemed really hurt.
  16. It's interesting, thought I don't get how the Padres have a better chance at winning the WS than the Braves, Angels or Red Sox. :dunno:
  17. Don't even start. Let it go. Or is this the moment when we start bashing Trot and Schill?
  18. ehh. Not that bad. And lay off Nixon for God's sake. Who's in first place tomorrow? Who? Let's go little guy, who? Arf! Arf! That's right little guy, the Sox are.
  19. Well, barring a Rays win (which this smells like...) it will be extra innings for the first time this year...
  20. Did I miss the trivia question answer? Who were the players involved in the only trade between the Rays and Sox???
