I have been looking at information on possible places he may land and his financial situation either optioned or FA.

Where do you guys think is likely? Will he be too expensive for us?

We will already be paying him $10M for the buy out, and while I keep hearing people say he can sign somewhere else for $25-30M and make $35-40M combined, the reverse is true, too.

If we pay him $35-40M, we'd be saving the $10M, so in a sense, he only costs us $25-30M more than if he walks.

Tough call. I'd love him back, but I think Brez will see that replacing him with a full season of Crochet, Houck, Crawford and Oviedo will be enough, and the money would be better spent elsewhere. I think he walks. Where? Who knows? Maybe TOR or CWS? HOU might go all in on 2027- thinking their window is closing once Pena bolts.

If they pay him 40M, they are saving 10M? The mutual option is 30. The only way to get to 40M is to extend him before that option needs to be picked up after the WS. Seems unlikely an extension is getting done before then!

If we sign him at $40M, we don't spend the $10M option for nothing, so yes, it's kinda like we spent $30M to keep him, which is about what he's worth.

I'd like him back, but keep in mind that he wasn't as good as the W/L and ERA suggests.
