I think that was the DFA of Guerrero. At least that was to me. 

Then they decided to trade him to the Rays for some reason. 🫠

They now have one roster spot open (if Winckowski is actually DFA'd, just reported not official) to add a Rule 5 guy or not.

Yeah that trade is an odd one to me. I doubt it likely, but my mind went to a trade of Sogard or Eaton before the deadline for a non 40 guy.

Per Ian Cundall, Gray is a "strong defender at all infield spots & intriguing underlying data. Hits the ball hard... WILL CHASE." 

Emphasis mine on the last part.

I've taken it to mean we're trading one of the other bench players we have. But hard to guess right now.

He was pretty good in '23, but slipped some, afterwards.

The biggest thing was not buying into the org's/Bailey's pitching program.

I believe they tried working on pitch mix and the shape of some of his pitches. They got more horizontal movement out of him in '24, but worse results. We also know he was a candidate for regression ('23: 2.88 ERA/3.89 xFIP). I think they were never impressed with the work he put in whenever he was in AAA. He was unhappy with them. They weren't thrilled with him.

Gray is basically a left-handed hitting Romy.  He plays first, second and third and crushes left-handed pitching.

Now if only the Sox had a UIF capable of hitting right-handed pitching…

I seriously doubt it came down to a choice between Pete Alonso and Tristan Gray.  More like a choice between David Hamilton and Tristan Gray…
