One last thing. A week or so ago I posted that I definitely didn't want the SOX FO to re-sign O'Neill.  i'm now leaning the other way. Give O'Neill a QO and see where it goes from there.

If he accepts the QO or decides on FA, I'm fine either way.

Pro players are banged up this time of year, but there’s a difference between playing hurt and playing injured.  You can play hurt, playing injured is different.

Raffy did miss several games a couple weeks ago and they said it was shoulder related.  I’m guessing it more serious than just hurt, and if it were June, he probably be on the IL for a few weeks. I’ll give him full credit for trying.  Ditto Story for busting his butt getting back for the last 20-25 games of the season.  That also shows the kids something.

At this point there’s no reason for him to play

What a crock!  The Sox are by no means eliminated from the playoffs.  Devers wants to play and should play as long as there is no significant risk in further injuring his shoulders.

Someone else wrote that Devers does not have to be vocal to be a leader on this team.  He is the highest paid player.  When he plays--as opposed to staying on the bench--he sets the example, and that is good for team morale.

I thought this was a fantastic game even though the Sox hitting was pretty awful--0/11 with RISP.

Criswell and the Sox bullpen really came through.  The defense, including Devers, made some pretty good plays.   Our Sox ended up losing, 2-1, in the 10th inning, in the Bronx, and against a better team (and arch-rivals).

I saw no evidence that they could hear Fred Lynn whispering in their ears to quit, give up, or roll over and play dead--you know, to be "realistic."

If the Sox are going to miss the playoffs, they might as well do it while playing spoiler against the Yankees after taking 2/3 from Baltimore.

Dead on.  The last thing we should want is for them to do what Fred Lynn wants them to do--quit.  He calls that being "realistic."  But it's really just quitting.

Any time you have an injury and continue to do the same activity that caused the injury you risk making it worse. Since the team is out of the competition for the playoffs it’s a really dumb risk to take.

Devers should rest for the remainder of this list season

A quiet shout-out to moonslav who has insisted all season long that defense makes a difference.  Right now Story can't hit spit, but his defense is making a difference.  My guess is that Rafaela has more range, but Story is just so freaking consistent.  Maybe it's contagious because Devers looked sharp last night.  You know, Devers, the guy who should have stopped playing back in May--or was it April?--when Fred Lynn first declared the Sox had no chance this season.
