Bello vs. Severino

I'm giving the Sox the edge even though they scored just 1 run apiece yesterday and Saturday evening--largely because Bello has looked good lately and Severino is a righty.

The Sox are now 4.5 games out of the wild card and it's hard to see them making that up.

Thanks for starting the game thread today!

The path to October continues to grow more tenuous for the Sox. They really needed a better performance against the Tigers.

It's so weird to see three AL Central teams holding postseason spots in September. Baseball is a weird sport, man.

Normally, my optimistic self would say, hey, let's win this series and sweep the White Sox to go 5-1 this week. But, considering that we are an absolute dumpster fire at home, I would say, let's just go out and have some fun and pretend like we know what a good baseball team looks like.

I'm feeling the least optimistic since March and before the season began.

We simply had to beat Detroit, and we failed. Yes, we can now beat tougher teams, including some we need to pass, but we may need some sweeps to make that happen.

We've backed ourselves into a very dark corner. There are enough games to still be mathematically in it, but the more we play, the more we seem to show we don't have it in us, anymore.

First and foremost, we need our pen to turn it around, and NOW! I have faith our bats can do better. Our SP'ers have shown some improvement, already. The pen and D have been killing us, this past 5-6 weeks.

Excellent summary, which is just sad.

The fact is that this team never had the talent-especially the pitching talent-to be competitive. They haven’t been competitive for years. They likely won’t be competitive for years. They do have a good nucleus of position players but their pitching isn’t good enough. And digging in the dumpster for Garcia and Sims didn’t help.

It's disappointing when both O'Neill and Devers do nothing when the bases are empty, because that's when they've done their best work this season.

You keep repeating this about Devers, when he is very near his career RBI/PA norm.

O'Neill has as many RBI per PA as the rest of the team. You guys get bummed that too many are from solo blasts.

I'm using my eyes and not those misleading stats. BTW, his stats are dropping faster than an Acme anvil.

I think they said he’s 6 for his last 40. He’s hurt. There’s no point in keeping him in the lineup. It only risks making his shoulder injuries worse.

Maybe he's injured, but I've seen nothing in his swing that verifies that.

They keep mentioning it. And they gave him some time off to rest. They should give him the rest of the season off.

If his shoulder is injured, then I agree with you. Bring up one of the prospects to give us something to watch, besides Duran.

Two more errors for a very bad team.

unwatchable

Geez O'Neil....what was that? Whatever made you think you could field a ball that way. I have finally concluded that O'Neil fits right into this no field baseball team.

And while I had hoped that their athleticism would fill in when the ever present inevitable Sox late summer batting swoon appeared, that just has not happened. There are literally no positive aspects to the Sox game at this point.

The only positive is that the season will be over soon. Unfortunately next year isn’t likely to be any better. Or the year after.

Henry needs to sell the team

Not Duran?

Knowing him, he'd sell them to a miser.
