Here's a question for our experts. Duran has a DWAR of +1.9, largely because he is really fast and has finally gotten a handle on taking the best routes to fly balls and line drives.

So why in the wide, wide world of sports would everyone--and I mean everyone--on talksox want Duran to play left field instead of centerfield?

And please don't mention Rafaela for CF because this year his best position for the team is SS because he has way more range than anyone else and a pretty good arm.

It's also clear that Cora wants both players playing in every single game. They've both played in 121, and next most is Devers with 110.

Hamilton/Romy 0.3 Rng SS

Rafaela 0.4 Rng SS

Duran 1.4 Rng CF

Rafaela Rng CF

If you only care about range, the difference between Rafaela and the other available options is nothing compared to the difference between Rafaela and Duran. That’s why Duran would be in LF.

Welcome, one and all, to the double-standard website--mistakenly called Talksox-- where the Sox are excoriated for playing better defense--so far, anyway--than the Astros.

Yup. Duran and Abreu are good in the outfield and so is Rafaela when he’s out there, the rest of the team is pretty bad defensively

The Astros are having a bad game defensively but they have the 5th best fielding percentage in baseball.

The Flops are the WORST in the game.

According to the Word Reference Dictionary of English a 'timely hit' is defined as "at the right or an opportune time."

Like Who Let The Dogs Out that one summer?

It’s a Red Sox forum, where most people have watched the Sox play terrible defense all season. I don’t understand why you are mad that people are criticizing a legitimate issue with the team. Are the Astros good defensively? No, but Boston is worse. Both teams can be bad defensively

I actually take that back. The Astros aren’t even that bad defensively. They just have a lot of injuries and are having a bad game. Red Sox have consistently been bad defensively all season.

LOL. That was a pretty good. Not the song, but your post. I guess the SOX offense thinks anything by Taylor Swift is a 'timely hit.' Btw, most ball players have shite taste in music.

True. I looked that up before I made my comment. Yet, good as they are, the Astros have committed 3 errors already.

The Sox, meanwhile, have now made two excellent defensive plays to the Astros none. They got the runner going home even though he blocked the throw by running inside the 3d base line, and Gonzalez just made a heckuva play from well behind 2d base to get the 3d out.

Exactly

Just on fielding percentage the Astros are 5th best; the Flops DEAD LAST. They too often look like buffoons out there and when they play like that it’s like watching a little league game.

It’s been that way for years

I enjoy some Taylor Swift music.

That was one hell of a play by Romy

Impossible. I've been reading this game thread and can assure you the Sox are incapable of making even the easiest play. To quote the consensus, the Sox defense isn't even little league quality. Just ask MVP 78.

She couldn't carry Janice Joplin's G-String.

Janice Joplin is an acquired taste--and certainly not to mine. Not much of a Taylor Swift fan either. Give me Ella or Eydie or Barbra or Patsy.

Joplin only became famous because of the casting couch. Mid as hell.

Give me a gal like Joan Jet any day.

I spelled Joplin's 1st name wrong. It should be Janis. I love the late great Patsy Cline.

The Flops little league show is on nearly every night

Then why oh why do you bother to watch them if they offend your sensibility so much?

Indeed. I would go one step further and tell you that the Sox this season are providing impressive evidence that defense is freaking over-rated.

And this game is a perfect example. The Sox are not, repeat not, winning because the Astros defense stinks tonight, but because the Sox are hitting the dickens out of the baseball this season.
