BTW, in case you were unaware, Friday night's game against the Yankems will be televised on Apple+.

Another one?

A series win will help the lost opportunity last night for a nice comeback effort. Sale needs to be on his game, which Paxton was overall. The Sox need to play out at a .600 clip over the final 42 to catch the Jays, assuming they go .500 over their final 40.

They can catch either HOU or the Jays when they play the two teams later in the season.

Six righty bats, a recipe for minimal runs. Of course, one could say the same thing if the Sox started six lefty bats (against a righty starter).

Sale was just brilliant (after a 2 month hiatus) 5 days ago, so he could well be brilliant again today, maybe for 5 innings. But that ain't enough to win. The bullpen has to contribute some scoreless innings and the bats need to bring home some runs.

No argument that an amazing set of sweeps or near sweeps will help but you also have to win a majority of the other games too. Like today

Thinking of 5 or 6 of 7 vs Astros is a strategy called hope.

Seeing eye single for Ref. Devers grounder is not seeing eye, but luckily only one out. The pitch was in the dirt, of course. And Story chimes in the the obligatory GIDP.

These guys have forgotten how to hit and/or score runs.

Sale saving his arm by taking several mph off his pitches.

Hey, dummy. He's also doing an excellent job of hitting the corners--so back off.

Casas just might be coming around on hitting lefties. He certainly has a good eye, the one thing Devers emphatically does not have.

Devers has definitely struggled in his last 15 games with 1 HR and 3 rbi's while OPS is below .800. He needs to find an answer if the Sox will make run over the next 13 games . Picking better pitches , and hitting those in the zone would help.

At least none of the SOX/Yankem games this weekend will be televised on ESPN. That's a minor blessing.

I’d rather ESPN instead of apple. Apple is the worst

Total horseshit play by Devers. But Sale walked the leadoff hitter Downs who then stole 2nd, went to 3rd on a crappy throw by Wong and ties the game on an error by Devers. Nothing changes with this team and it is not a team looking better in the stretch.

Whitlock and Winckowski , at least their last names begin with a W . Sox about to go down to another sub .500 team.

There was a period earlier this year when this team was just not even interesting. With all the big names back, they have found that level again.

Casas working his way to becoming the 'face' of the SOX.

I cannot imagine any sensible MLB player wanting to be the "face" of this rotten, stinking team with their two freaking errors and one stinking run in 5 freaking innings. Oh, and their second abysmal bullpen effort in two days.

Sale got screwed by the homeplate ump, but just on that one batter, who should have been K'd. This is, on the other hand, the second straight game in which Sale kind of fell apart in the 5th inning and right around the 60 pitch mark.

In my opinion, that's to be expected. Hence the bullpen. But Winck decided to follow Whitlock's lead and just destroy Sale's effort as Whitlock destroyed Paxton's.

And now of course the top of the Sox order comes up in the 6th with a fly out, a K by Devers, and a ground out by Story.
