Youk is the Captain Obvious of the NESN booth.

The only thing worse than OB and Youk in the booth is adding Wake. I thought OB had no personality as he drones on and on trying to be “one of the guys” but Wake right there with him and he IS one of the guys.

Note just now Kike's fury directed at the umpire for calling a strike a strike. It is a myth that the players see the strike zone with the same precision as is superimposed on our screens.

Remy and ECK were hard acts to follow, but NESN should have tried harder.

Or he could be frustrated that there is no consistency? He’s called the same pitch in the same locations both balls and strikes. No one on either side really understands the strike zone

Just let OB do it alone. These other guys were called "idiots" for a reason.

I actually enjoy Youk calling the games. Wakefield- not so much.... but that may be because I couldn't stand watching him pitch either.

Agree and agree. And admittedly I never got over Orsillo. I have an irrational dislike of OB, he’s such a shill, constantly polishing this turd (which is his job I get it lol).

Robo-umps cannot get here fast enough.

I wonder if that has to be approved by the chUMPIRES' union? Their union is still pissed off that MLB brought in scabs when the chUMPS went on strike years ago.

Sean McDonough didn't polish the turd and got canned.

I honestly don’t hate DOB. They definitely don’t do him favors with the guys they give him in the booth. I hope they don’t let Millar do anymore games

For the many, many fans of robo umps. Has anyone of you ever commented at the end of a game, "you know, we won that game only because the umps gave us the calls?"

The answer to that is of course a resounding "no."

And my interpretation of that resounding "no" is that the so-called missed balls and strikes are nothing more than nuisance value. They are just something to discuss ad nauseum under the delusion that baseball, a sport, should achieve perfection--one which is invisible to everyone on the field of play who can't see the rectangle on the television screen--in the calls of balls and strikes.

Ya. Sadly this. It’s obvious to me at least that OB is willing to accept the employment conditions unfortunately. I don’t really blame him of course.

Of the ones that have been used this season I prefer Lou Merloni.

Just because we can't "see" the lines in real life- doesn't mean they don't exist. The strike zone is defined. While there is not a painted line in thin air.... it is not supposed to be subjective. There is an objective strike zone.. those lines are established and defined. And yes- I want all calls to be perfect- I find no value in incorrect decisions about anything in a ball game.

Because the lines are "not visible" does not mean they are invisible- or what do you think the ump is using to determine his calls?

McDonough, imho, is the best sports announcer working today.

I’d like to see the broadcasts drop the K zone graphic. Let the ump have his zone and the players/managers adjust. That said, it requires consistency from the umps which is a whole other can of worms.

Has Devers gained weight this season?

If you like his waistline now, wait until next year . More seriously , Devers body type does not bode well for the long term as an athlete unless he can apply enormous discipline and conditioning ethic. Oh well

No- let the ump call balls and strikes according to the rules and defined strike zone. The umps should not have their own zone. I mean why not get rid of the chalk lines... let the umps create their own zone of where fair and foul are. Both are objective lines that should be enforced as perfectly as possible.

The chUMPIRE defines the strike zone and as long as he's consistent the batters can adjust. When they're not consistent, like today's clown, that causes the problem.

The comments about Yoshi hitting #2 , maybe Devers at 3 or 4 are accurate. If #2 is your best hitter, following an effective leadoff hitter , now Dugo, it has to be Yoshida . Devers has a long climb out of his .243/.788 slump ( .193/.638 last 15 games)
