Just heard on the KC feed that the SOX have 25 blown leads this season, which is only 2nd to Texas with 28.

And Cora keeps sending pigs to the mound in late innings. Half of those 25 are because of Cora’s decisions at very least. 12 more games put us very close to the Yankees. It’s been obvious for a while where the problem was/is.

Clay Holmes blows the save, YAnkees lose again. They’re now 9-14 since Verdugos walk off

Seems like they are finally coming back to earth.

JDM is now 4 for his last 45 ABs.

He has left 5 on base in this game

Slow bat Martinez has his days counted in Red Sox uniform.

I feel like I’ve seen Hosmer hit 3 balls that were nearly 400 feet for outs in this series

+1 Imagine him and Renfroe entering the season with a decent closer.

He's definitely been hitting the ball hard these last two games. He's already my 2nd favorite player on the SOX.

But in JD's defense he did give the SOX 3 very good years out of the 5. And he was an important cog in the SOX winning it all in 2018. So there's that.

He's very far from being the worst FA the SOX ever signed. There's been a few in recent SOX history who've been a whole lot worse.

JD will never be forgotten in Boston. During his peak he was one of the best hitters in baseball and was very good in the playoffs. He looks a little washed now, but overall, it was a great signing.

Based on how many long term signings go bad, and we've had front row seats on many of them, I agree 100% with you.

Look at the bright side; the SOX could have signed him for 6 years instead of 5.

JDM has been an excellent bat during his contract, but it looks like the right time to be moving on from him.

Well it actually maths out to 14mil/yr. Giving JBJ 12mil/yr really messes up the value chart.

You are right....its 14. He could take 14.....he could easily take 14 IMO, unless somebody offers him more. I do think he will be entertaining multiple offers which will likely drive the price over $14 per....just none near $20m per IMO.

He is simply too good a player not to end up with multiple offers. Plus he is well mated to today's MLB where the field is littered with players that simply cannot field the baseball....SEE the Royals. A guy with his skill set in the field can make up for a good many screwed up horseshit plays in the field and he is a fairly consistent hitter and a solid clubhouse guy. What Hosmer is as a player is becoming harder and harder to come by......less available while being more attractive at the same time.

Somebody could blow out the budget for Hosmer but I REALLY doubt it. Sal Perez makes $20. X makes $20. Hosmer is in his last year making $20 and if he signs his option would be making $13.

Can not tell for certain but I think JBJ ended up on a $9.5M option that he signed with the Brewers. Still an overpay IMO but not the $12m called for in his last contract.

Actually JBJ's contract at $12 got stuck in my head and I could not get it out. "Jackie at 12. $42 for 3 is ......$12......everybody makes $12"

JBJ's contract with the Brewers was like this:

2021 salary 6.5 mill

2022 salary 9.5 mill

2023 team option 12 mill with buyout of 8 mill

The total guaranteed was 2 years and 24 mill, which resulted in an AAV of 12 mill.

The Brewers only paid the 2021 salary of 6.5 mill.

The Sox pay 9.5 mill plus the 8 mill buyout for a total of 17.5 mill.

And that fits with what philosophy or strategy... paying that much for a guy who didn’t hit .200 and throwing in a 30 HR guy to get him. Jeesh!

It looks like s*** now, absolutely.

The reasons it may have been done:

1) Upgrade our defense which was a big weakness last year.

2) Renfroe seemed liked a good candidate to regress.

3) JBJ seemed like a candidate to bounce back with the stick (whoops).

4) We got 2 prospects in the deal.

I never once thought last year that Renfro was a defensive liabilty in RF.

I have to admit I don't watch enough games to speak to it. What I gathered is that he has a very strong arm but tends to take too many chances and make wild throws, and his range is not great.
