Meh. Disappointed with the 2/12 with RISP, but the simple fact is that Pivetta had a tough game, giving up 7 runs, which against the Rays pitching usually means a loss.

Thank goodness for those batting helmets!!!

JD coming up small again with a chance to drive somebody in.

33 RBIs hitting out of the 3-4 hole all season. JBJ has 25 with 85 less plate appearances and batting 8-9 most of the time.

Both JD's and Bogey's lack of production, so far, will make both their departures less painful than if they were both producing.

7 runs against anyone’s pitching will usually mean a loss. Every pitcher has a clunker once in a while.

I didn't see the speed; I was going by Eck's call.

That’s the speed they were saying. Luckily it looked like Vaz got his head turned enough so it didn’t catch him quite flush, but who knows. He must have at least passed preliminary concussion protocol, though, since he stayed in the game.

Yeah because it will be easy for the Sox to replace Bogey who's constantly on top in recent years for SS production. FFS he's top 3 in all MLB this year for SS in terms of WAR.

That beaning was accidental, maybe caused by the rain, and the Sox reacted appropriately. A huge contrast to when the Jays completely over-reacted to an inside pitch by Pivetta which hit Kirk, who was 1 for 6 in that series.

You're 100% correct, but Bogey is leaving anyway, whether he's been productive or not so far this season.

It's always dangerous when a pitcher is throwing a wet baseball. Surprised it doesn't happen more often.

Not the first time the Jays have overreacted in such a situation. That’s been happening for a couple years, and Vlad Jr. is usually the one doing the chirping.

Even tonight, Diaz was upset on that inside pitch by Pivetta (which I think was a purpose pitch) but the Rays team didn’t make a big deal about it.

There's a lot of pitchers in the HOF who made a living pitching inside, but under today's rules they would be warned or thrown out of the game. There is nothing wrong throwing inside as long as it isn't head high. And if the pitcher hits a guy, well that used to be part of the game.

Now the only thing the league appears interested in is speeding up the game no matter how many more stupid rules they have to implement.

Agree.

JDM's current (July 6, 2022) WAR is 3d best in MLB among DH's. Bogey's WAR of 3.1 is also 3d best--among shortstops--in MLB. Mookie Betts has a gargantuan contract/salary, and his WAR is 3.0.

I have griped about those two as well, but perspective is needed.

I agree their departures after this season are likely, but do think they will be missed. Bogey was part of the 2013 and 2018 WS teams, JDM the 2018 (his first season with Boston).

However, I also think the John Henry will not want to meet their salary demands.

Attendance last night was 31K, not too shabby. The Sox are currently ranked 9th in MLB attendance with 31,695 per game.

I doubt Bogey will be back, but JD might not be offered a ton by another GM, so he may be back.

I see an issue arising, for the first time in 2-3 years, we will be facing some tough calls on protecting Rule 5 Prospects, thanks to the farm being built up both in quality and quantity. Yes, we have a lot of contracts coming off the books, including Price's, but several cannot be replaced, cheaply.

I'm not one of those who think Bloom is stuck in the Ray's Way mode, but I do think he prefers to go with shorter term, moderate salary contracts over large and long ones, but if he spends to where we are, today, he will have to sign 10-15 players, if there are not LnL contracts given out. (Maybe he extends Devers?)

I think he almost has to give out a LnL contract or 2, or he has to give 3-4 deals in the $14-19M/yr range. There will not be room for 12-15 FAs, unless we make some 3 for 1 deals.

How may this relate to this deadline? I have a theory: maybe we look at the prospects and protected players and determine who won't make the cut, next year, but has trade value, this summer, and those are the guys we trade (2 for 1's or 3 for 1's.) This helps us now, and may easy the congestion, this coming winter.
