He hasn't been striking out as much lately, so that's a positive sign. Baby steps.

That time, it would have been better.

I just love it when the Sox beat the Angels. As a mater of fact, I love it better than when they beat the Yankees.

Well, the Angels paying fans can enjoy watching Trout and Ohtani. They'll also be saving money by not having to pay for PO tickets.

I posted earlier on another thread that VAZ deserves more love than he's been getting. Not many catchers hit as well as he does.

He's so up and down.

.632 first 999 PAs in MLB (2014-2018)

.799 middle 710 PAs (2019-2020)

.672 last 644 PAs (2021-2022), but he's been bring it up, recently

Except for Streakman a great job by the BP tonight.

It's great seeing Houck do very well in high leverage situations.

Tonight's line:

SP 4 IP 4 ER 4 BB+H

RP 6 IP 1 ER 5 BB+H (No ghost runner scoring)

They may not be watching Trout as much as they would like, because he seems to be breaking down on a regular basis these last couple of years. 400 million dollars. Suck on that, Angels FO. Btw, Gene Autry is pissed.

Actually, a great job by the bullpen, period: 6 innings, 1 run. They did give up 4 BB's, but only Diekman's hurt. Maybe Strahm is the potential closer.

Back to back wins with just 1 run margins.

Fascinating substitutions: first JBJ to RF for Arroyo in the 8th to shore up the defense, then Kike to SS, JBJ to CF, and Cordero to RF when Bogey goes out for the bum shoulder in the 9th.

Game winning rbi by Vazquez, whose OPS is now .734 and his WAR +0.6. Surprising.

Does Bogey make that play Kike made?

Honest answer. I don’t know, but I do think that JBJ gets to those 2 balls in the 1st inning that Kike didn’t.

Funny, but I was thinking the same thing--but only thinking. I'm not sure JBJ would have caught them.

I just watched and think he would have. Still, that was also an excellent throw by Kike.

Well we saw that Kike didn’t catch them.

Hard to know. It's hard to gauge the route taken and the initial jump on the ball. I think Kike is faster, so JBJ would have had to have done better on one or both of the other areas to make those plays. Maybe he does.

Same as the Kike play at SS v Bogey.

Agree, because not everyone would have been in the exact same spot to begin with, and not all gets equal jumps.

I could be wrong, but I think Kike gets excellent jumps, takes straight and true routes and has speed and athleticism to make almost all makeable plays.

JBJ might be slightly better on positioning, anticipation and getting great quick out of the gate breaks, but he may not match Kike's speed. (Athleticism being about equal?)

I know you think Kike is a better CF than JBJ, but I’ll take JBJ.

It's close. JBJ's full career resume tops Kike's in CF.

You gotta admit, they both are major plusses on D, and in Fenway, those two positions have heightened value.

Kike is a good CF I never said he wasn’t, but I just think JBJ is better. Dugy doesn’t have the speed, but they all make up a real good defensive OF, but not as good as 2018.

I didn't mean to imply you thought Kike was not a plus defender, and I have no issues with anyone liking JBJ better on defense.

Cora has made some interesting choices:

Bogey at SS vs Story

Kike in CF v JBJ.

It might be more about Bogey at 2B v Story or Kike in RF vs JBJ, than the first part of the choice I listed.

This is Bogey’s team, so I don’t think it was an interesting choice to keep him at SS. Now if Cora would have made the choice to put Story at SS that would have been the interesting part. JBJ is just as good in RF, and especially in Fenway has a better arm.

I think it's interesting to sign a plus defender at SS, the most important defensive position in baseball, then not play him there.

I get why, but it still interests me, especially since I think Bogey is, at best, and average MLB SS, defensively.

Whether you like the choice or not, I think it is a very interesting string of decisions.

When we almost traded for ARod, and rumor was Nomar did not want to change positions, but ARod was fine moving to 3B for the vastly inferior defensive SS in Jeter, I found that vert interesting, too.

I get how Jeter and Bogey were and are icons, but not for their D.

Well you said the trade for Story didn’t make sense, and everyone knew that he would be playing 2B, so I guess that is on Cora, and Bloom that you don’t agree with it. Bogey’s team, and Jeter’s team made sense to the people making the decisions.
