Well, if the Dodgers had a cheaper version of Mookie Betts, why would they trade him for a more expensive and older version of Mookie Betts?

The equal value is, as others have stated, one year of Mookie Betts vs 5 years of Alex Verdugo, plus lottery tickets of Wong and Downs. Dodgers were nice enough to take 1/2 of Price's contract in the deal too.

Mookie Betts 2020: 2.9 fWAR

Verdugo since 2020: 3.8 fWAR

You are going off from the point I was trying to make. 1 year of Betts compared to 5 years of Dugy I get, but that’s not my point.

Those are big shoes to fill. When you have guys like Mookie, Xander and Raffy, I think you do whatever it takes to make sure they don't walk out that door.

I’ve always said I’m against 10year/$300M contracts for anybody, and that’s Raffy, and Mookie included. Bloom did do a bad job on the return for Betts especially the great Jeter Downs who has gone 2 years now without getting above 200 against AAA pitching, and that is Blooms fault. Look at all the sites that graded the deal, and how many gave Bloom a passing grade.

Who else was even kicking the tires on a 1 year player making $28M?

I'm not saying he did a great job, but Downs was not the center of that deal. 4.5 years of verdugo was.

I know your refrain is always, "we should have traded him earlier, but ten you poo-poo all prospects, anyway.

Bloom can never win with you, unless Henry lets him spend like DD.

But, at the time, the trade was given bad grades. Apparently, that's al that counts, for some.

If the grades would have been in Bloom’s favor you would be all over them. Downs was supposedly some high prospect at the time of the trade, so the grades today would probably be even lower.

Except you also say s*** like this.

So you can't get mad at the team if the 300M shoes aren't filled since you didn't want to pay to really fill them anyway.

You either:

(a) want Mookie Betts on the team and will pay to keep him there

(B) realize that Mookie wants to much and will trade to get whatever you can

I think Bloom did his best with option (B). I hated the trade at the time and still wish they signed him to an absurdly long deal because it's not my money.

You keep on asking that question on who else was interested like the Dodgers were the only one, and maybe they were, but we don’t know that. No one ever said Downs was the center of that deal, but he sure has been talked up enough on here. Betts should have been traded earlier, and maybe just maybe they could have gotten more players back, and not prospects. I don’t like Bloom, and I’ve been right up front with that, and I know it bothers all his followers, but that’s my opinion. You said 2 days ago it was good to see Downs heating up. What’s he been like 2-30 with 11 K’s? Wow!

I’m very well aware that John Henry has the say in Bogey, and Raffy are resigned.I wouldn’t pay nowhere near $650M to resign them, and I think under $500M would do it. Comparing Sale, and Price is nowhere near a good comparison to Bogey, and Raffy. You now what Bogey, and Raffy can do in Boston, and Sale was a TJ waiting to happen, and price was a bad fit for Boston, but he went to the highest bidder. So you just want to be competitive like the Rays, but don’t win anything like the Sox have done the past 20 years. The Sox didn’t win 4 WS doing it the Tampa way.

I would be in favor of $500M for both Raffy and Bogey, assuming those are longish contracts. Price and Sale were great starters when they were signed, but I do agree paying big for pitchers carries more risks than position players.

No, I didn't say I want to be like the Rays because theSox actually have a fan base and can afford good players. But, while big bucks help, they don't include performance guarantees. And the Sox have had their share of players who were getting paid a lot for playing elsewhere (or not at all).
