Well, it did happen a mere 8 years ago, in 2014, when they traded Lester and Lackey.

We basically traded almost our whole rotation: Lester, Lackey, Douront, and Peavy plus Andrew Miller.

We also had another big dump, when we traded AGon, Beckett and Crawford for peanuts, but that was different in many ways.

Both "sales" played a part in subsequent rings. It doesn't always have to end badly.

Careful Old Red , Any criticism of Bloom will get the P.B.A. to come after you. P.B.A. is the Protect Bloom Association . Or , Protect Bloom's Ass , for short. We have some charter members on here . And they are all " very astute" folks.

All firmly entrenched in your minds.

If we're clearly out of it at the end of July, you think it would make sense to hang onto JD and Eovaldi?

He holds all positions, even contradictory ones, firmly in his grasp, and countless talk show callers agree.

Of course, it's way different, but if we are out of it at the deadline, it makes sense to trade anyone who will be a FA, maybe even some we might want to re-sign, although that rarely happens.

It actually does a favor for guys like Bogey, Nate and JD, since they no longer will have a lost comp pick attached to them, next winter- making more teams interested in signing them.

This is not a fun time for me and probably no other fans, either, but it might be the best thing to do. You have even said, many times, we should trade guys we know we will not re-sign.

Not having a fire sale is what makes no sense, assuming we are out of it.

I’m all for trading players you can’t sign, but it should have been done long before now. I said before that Mookie was traded one year to late. Low balling Bogey, and Raffy just before the season just set the tone for this season, and to me it’s all on Bloom. Just get rid of everyone, and change the team name from the Red Sox to the Boston Prospects, and they can play in the Gold Rush League.

I'm not sure about Mata. I do think Seabold & German are almost auto 2022 candidates. Duran, Casas and Bello are very likely. Wong and Murphy are likely, especially with a fire sale. Maybe Walter, Mata, Downs, Fitzy, RHern...

Mata is on the 40 man and pumping 100. He's going on a rehab assignment. The clock is ticking with him. The best use for him this season is out of the pen. May as well have him pitch in BOS.

Thanks for the warning, but I’ve been there, and done that, but their barks are worse than their bites.

Reading between the Bloom lines today, at least one or two of 4, 7 and 28 will be up by the end of this summer.

And if there is a full-scale rebuild, then expect about half of the 2024s to share coffee in the summer of '23. Management has to showcase the semblance of hope-for-the-future for the fans to keep watching.

I don't think they "showcase" the 2024 guys earlier in 2023. I think that really screws up their timeline.

If you’re not planning on resigning them no.

Some on here have been discussing this before the season even started. Are the Red Sox still charging the highest priced tickets in baseball? I noticed attendance is down, so why bother. If a so called fire sale is done as Michael Felger would say it’s all on the nerds, and clones who run the Red Sox.

Sox are #2.

There's nothing wrong with criticizing Bloom, just have a coherent argument to put forth.

Playoffs? Did someone say playoffs? You don’t need talk show callers to know this team is a mess from Top to bottom.

Their slipping. Does John Henry know that?

It's an extra $10 per ticket for the Mookie surcharge in LA. I would have paid it.

Is someone arguing the MLB team isn't a mess?

I'm sure a ton of talk show callers share your ideas on trading our stars before they actually were or will be traded.

I'm just thinking his rehab will take him near to August/September, but yes, if we are in rebuild mode, and he's ready for the bigs, sure- call him up.

The pink hats will show up regardless. they are not there to watch the game, they are there to take selfies at fenway to post to instagram and tik tok.

You keep bringing up talk show callers that you don’t want to hear about. Well they’ve talked about this on the Red Sox pregame show, and during the game broadcast by the announcers just like they have about where Whitlock belongs on the staff, so I guess they are all bad people too. Anyone who shares a different opinion than you you don’t want to hear about, but that doesn’t change the fact there are many many out there.

More than one on here have said Bloom, and Cora got the Red Sox to 2 games of the WS last year, and I’m fine with that logic, so following the same logic Bloom, and Cora have made the mess that the Red Sox are this year. Sounds good to me.

If he kept spending and kept trading, it would have been fine.

His current rehab assignment is live games in Salem. It's not like he's hanging out at the complex.

On a non-baseball note. 2 manhole covers exploded in downtown boston earlier today, I hope everyone is ok.

IMO, you don't throw the baby out with the bath water. Cora has won a WS and got to the ALCS last season. Bloom had a throw away year, a very successful year and then a disappointing year. I think he needs to be given time because his goal was to grow the franchise from the bottom up, not the top down.

Honestly, he's done a s*** job with the bullpen and outfield construction specifically. I don't like the Story signing. I think they should have re-signed/extended Mookie, Xander and Devers (the big 3). I can't complain about the results from last season or the turnaround in the farm system. It's been a mixed bag.
