N.D. with a hard fought win against a pretty tough opponent. The remaining schedule looks pretty soft, but they can't get too complacent. Even the weaker teams have good athletes. You see ranked teams getting upset every week.

No Big losses today, but Brian Kelly is on the hot seat at LSU. Love it.

I was really pulling for an Alabama loss. They needed a late score and 2 pt conversion to pull off the win.

I'd love to see Vandy make the playoffs.

To quote Hawk Harrelson, “He gone”.

Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.

Saw the following on another site, but I wholeheartedly agree with it:

”I am very disappointed in the way LSU handled it. Men sitting in an office, talking and negotiating terms. This is a campus with a live tiger and a state full of alligators. This is not how I wanted it to end for Brian.”

Posted

I have no beef with Kelly. He wanted to move on and thought he was moving up.

I think he felt being at ND, with all the high entrance standards, he'd never be able to recruit the talent needed to win it all. He might have been right on that, but to think that was the only difference between ND and LSU was perhaps his biggest misjudgment.

(BTW, my father was teaching at LSU, when I was born in Baton Rouge.)

Perhaps the most meaningful games remaining before conference championships:

5 GA at 8 GA Tech (NOV 28: both need to win before this game)

3 TEX A&M at 20 TEX (NOV 28: always a big game)

1 Ohio St at 21 MI (NOV 29: always a big game)

3 TEX A&M at 19 MO (next week: A&M looking for the bye/Mo looking for a shot)

20 TEX at 5 GA (NOV 15: means more if TEX wins today)

9 Vandy at 14 TN (NOV 29: Vandy needs to win today)

9 Vandy at 20 Texas (today: TX could get back in the mix/ Vandy could be bounced.)

18 OKL at 4 ALA (NOV 15)

10 BYU at 13 TEX Tech (next week: winner might be in/ loser out)

18 OKL at 14 TN (today: the winner has a shot: the loser does not)

23 USC at 6 ORE (NOV 22: Go Trojans!)

10 BYU at 17 CIN (NOV 22: assuming both win before this game)

19 MO at 18 OKL (NOV 22: both need to win before this game)

There really are not that many huge games remaining, but enough to make it interesting.

Texas beat #9 Vandy, so that should open up a slot for someone else in the top 12. ND may move up to #11 with a win at BC, today.

The ND game was even closer than the final score, but BC through the years has given ND fits at times. Not a great showing, but ND should move up a couple slots.

You gotta wonder if it's the Catholic rivalry that always makes these games more intense that they should be.

ND cannot afford to get complacent, and yesterday's game kinda showed a crack in that area. We should win out, but we can't get into that mindset and put it all on cruise control, and if we want to advance in the playoffs we have to keep working to get better and better each week.

That being said, it was great seeing Love bust out, and Carr was  very efficient.

GA Tech made a nice run, this year, but losing at NC St probably knocks them out, unless they best GA in their last game of the season.

Texas might have ended Vandy's unlikely run at the playoffs and put themselves on the fringes of squeaking in.

MIA loss at SMU should drop them out of  the top 12, but they cans till win their conference and get back in.

18 OKL probably ended 14 TEN's chances, and other borderline teams took care of business, yesterday: 13 TEX Tech, 15 VA and 16 Louisville all won. 21 MICH won and remains in the hunt, due to their last game vs 1 Ohio St.

This might be what the first bowl rankings looks like:

1. Ohio St 8-0

2. IN 9-0

3. TX A&M 9-0

4. ALA 8-1

5. GA 7-1

Undefeated BYU was exposed, today. I'm glad teams like them get eliminated from consideration.

Now, I'm not so sure teams like #13 Utah (7-2) Virginia (8-1) Louisville (7-1) GA Tech (8-1) or Vandy (7-2) deserve it either, but I'd rather see the debate about who is in about teams like them than much better teams left out in the past.

In early games, OSU, GA & Ole Miss are taking care of business. IN pulled their game out, late.

The Domers won big over 7 and 1 Navy, who were ranked 23rd before losing last week. They should pass BYU, who lost to TEX Tech.

Big day for Love & the Domers.

A&M came back from way down vs South Carolina and has the lead, late.

Some teams below #18 are close to losing and ending any hopes of making the top 12.

Yes, another big day for Love, and ND. Carr didn’t have a particular good game today with 2 bad interceptions, and 2 great catches by Fields made Carr look better than he really was. Carr also took a couple of big hits today.

As much as I dislike Oklahoma, seeing them beat Alabama was nice! OK was #11, so maybe they jump up, a lot.

A & M pulled out another close one. I'm still not convinced they are this good.

Some outside borderline teams kept pace:

15 MIA won big.

16 GA Tech barely beat Boston College

17 USC beat 21 Iowa

18 MI barely won

19 VA won

Navy beat 24 So FL, perhaps helping ND's strength of schedule

The Domers ran all over the CUZZ. Wow!

24 Rushes and 329 yards.

Only passed 15 times.

No top 12 teams lost, but #12 Utah almost did. #11 BYU just started. Most bubble teams won.

Posted

A lot of teams are eyeing those 11th and 12th slots. I think the top 11 are all in, if they win out, and no top 12 teams play each other, until the conference championship games, which of course could and may knock a team or two out of the top 12.

Next weeks big games:

1 Ohio St at 18 Michigan (could get MI in, if they win. OSU will still be top 12 w a loss.) Then the Big 10 conference game (OS v IN?)

2 IN at PUR

3 TX A&M at 17 TEX (a TEX win may get them in)

4 GA at 16 GA Tech (tech will drop after this week's loss)

5 Tx Tech at WV

6 Ole Miss at Miss ST

(all top 6 are in, even with a loss, IMO)

7 ORE at WSH (I still think ORE is overrated)

8 OKL v LSU (OKL should be in)

9 ND at Stanford (ND needs to win to be in.)

10 AL at AUB (Go Auburn!)

11 BYU v UCF (I think BYU is out, when they lose the conf game)

12 UT at KA (I'm not high on UT.)

13 MIA at PIT (may be ranked after big win) MIA might be in win

14 Vandy at 20 TN (winner may sneak in the top 12)

15 USC v UCLA (USC a long shot, to me. Need many losses)

19 VA vs VA Tech (VA is likely out)

Most likely Conf games:

OSU vs IN (both would stay top 12 w loss)

TEX A&M vs AL

TX Tech vs BYU (would knock BYU out)

VA vs SMU

Posted

The NCAA updated poll came out, last night.

ORE jumped Ole Miss, but all else stayed the same.

1. Ohio St, 2. IN, 3. TEX A&M (no losses)

4. GA, 5. TEX Tech, 6. ORE, 7. Ole Miss (1 loss teams) 11. BYU (10-1)

Above teams seem safe for top 12, even if they lose, except BYU.

________________________________

8. OKL, 9. ND, 10. ALA, 12 MIA (2 loss teams)

Teams on the outside with a shot:

13. UT (at KA maybe not enough to jump up)

14. Vandy (at #19 TN could get them to #12)

15. Mich (at Ohio St. could get them to #12.)

(8-3 TEX & USC are too long shots to discuss. 9-2 VA, too)

Upsets needed:

9 ND at Stanford

10 ALA at AUB

11 BYU v UCF

12 MIA at 22 PITT

________________________

Likely Conference Championships:

TEX A&M v ALA (ALA out with loss?)

Ohio St v IN (even if OSU loses to I & IN, they probably are in)

Tex Tech v BYU (BYU would be out with a loss)

What a sham College football is. I don’t get how a coach under contract from one school can be contacted from another school, and then hire that coach away when the present season isn’t even over yet. A college has to honor a contract to a coach, and to me it should have to work both ways.

I agree. It's about as bad as star players sitting out bowl games to avoid injury.

Texas A & M lost, but they will be in the dance.

All the other top 18 teams that player won, some just barely. People down here in Texas are arguing that Texas belongs, but with 3 loses, I don't think they should.

With some conference championship games coming up, some teams in the top 12 could get bounced out.

(Ratings are from before games played this past week.)

11 BYU vs 5 Texas Tech: Tech is in with win or loss, IMO. BYU is in with a win and out with a loss.

4 GA vs 10 ALA: GA is in no matter what. ALA is out with a loss.

1 Ohio St vs 1 Indiana: both are in, win or loss.

18 VA vs Duke

(North Texas v Tulane and James Madison v Troy)

This might be the new rankings:

1. Ohio St 12-0 (play IN)

2. Indiana 12-0 (play OSU)

3. Georgia 11-1 (play ALA)

4. Texas Tech 11-1 (play BYU)

5. Texas A & M 11-1

6. Ole Miss 11-1

7. Oregon 11-1

8. Oklahoma 10-2

9. Notre Dame 10-2

10. Alabama 10-2 (play GA)

11. BYU 11-1 (play TEX Tech)

12. Vanderbilt 10-2

13. Miami 10-2 (Need BYU or ALA loss)

15. Virginia 10-2 (May sneak in with win over Duke)

16. Texas 9-3 (I don't see them jumping 4 teams)

17. James Madison 11-1 (I doubt they jump to 12th, even with a 70-0 win)

18. No. Texas 11-1 (I doubt they jump to 12th, even with a 70-0 win)
