Perez (L) v. Nola ®, game starts at 7:05.

You think losing the Babe to NYC was bad, how about losing a true American genius to Philly? Ben Franklin's the name, and almost anything's the game.

Yes, absolutely, the First and Second Continental Congresses both met in Philly, where the Declaration and later the Constitution were both written and signed. But make no mistake, the American Revolution was born in Boston and made real by the Massachusetts Militia, which in June 1775 became the Continental Army. Months before the Declaration was signed, the Bostonians--now officially the Continental Army with GW in command-- threw the British Army (and Navy) out, never to return. Without that, it's doubtful the Declaration would have been signed.

And the guys from Boston, now wearing Red Sox, are still tougher and better than the Phillies, which kind of sounds like willies or wimpies to me. Plus Bryce Harper is so over-rated. Fact: the season after he left the Nationals for the big bucks in Philly, the Nationals won the first WS ever for a Washington team. With Harper now on their roster, the Phillies won one more game than the year before.

Phillies come in at 22-22, 1.5 behind the Mets for 1st in the NL East. They just lost 2 out of 3 at home to the Marlins, are 4-6 in their last 10, and have struggled to get any sustainable momentum this season. Their pitching is better than their offense, and we will see their two best pitchers this weekend, Aaron Nola tonight and Zack Wheeler on Sunday, although Perez has a lower ERA than Nola in the matchup tonight. Andrew McCutchen has provided a nice spark for the Phillies at the top of the order, but in general Cutch, Rhys Hoskins and Harper have been underwhelming offensively. The power numbers are there for all 3, but McCutchen is hitting .216 from the leadoff spot, Hoskins is hitting .257, and Harper is just a tick under .300 at .296 after a recent hot streak. Jean Segura is batting .316 and usually hits in the 2 hole. The Phillies see a lot of potential in 3B Alec Bohm. Despite low splits, he has had a lot of hard contact, but is also a major strikeout candidate. Bullpen is up and down. Hector Neris is a decent closer, but can have problems with control and command. They definitely are not made to come from behind, so if we can get out to early leads, like we have done the last two nights, I feel good about our chances to take at least 2 out of 3.

Old foe Joe Girardi is the manager, and we will miss another former Yankee, Didi Gregorious, who is currently on the IL.

The only good Phillies are:

Mike Schmidt

Jimmy Rollins

Dick Allen

Roy Halladay

Shane Victorino

If 2009 went the other way for them, I would throw Howard and Utley in there too. At least they still got 1

That's a pretty good list, but I have tell you I was living in PA in 1980 when the Phillies won the WS and that Pete Rose, whom I despise, made a big difference on that team--most hits, 2d most total bases, 2d most runs scored, etc. He was playing 1b by then and just seemed to be a leader.

You might consider adding Steve Carlton to your list. That year he went 24-9, ERA 2.34, and 304 IP.

Do not add Rose.

Excellent laydown. Thanks. I've always like Girardi.

You have to add to the equation that the best C (arguably) of the game won’t be available as well. In fact I just received a fantasy alert that Realmuto will spend some time in the IL.

Ingredients say we should take this series.

Let’s f go!

I don't like Rose or Carlton. Personally, I believe Rose is probably more likable than Carlton.

Utley is on the cusp. Howard is just the NL Chris Davis.

Hopefully they keep winning. Need a winning streak.

I'm into one day at a time and will settle for a win tonight. I like that it's a NL park and that puts JDM in the outfield instead of Cordero or whoever. Yes, our pitchers have to hit (unless Cora pinch-hits), but so do the Phillies'.

Tampa right behind us. We just need to keep winning and play better than .500 baseball which is what we have been doing lately. Get a win boys

Hate to see Xander go down so quickly like that, but hey, he got an RBI out of it

Me, I did a jig when he got the rbi. No K and especially no GIDP. Just an ordinary plain old high hopper to bring Verdugo home.

Nasty knuckle curve for 2d K this inning. Good repertoire and command. All the more credit to the Sox for scoring 2 in the 1st.

I personally enjoy watching pitchers make an ass of themselves at the plate. Makes me feel better about myself
