In a close game we use Brice and Taylor back to back. Guess we wanted to lose

Well Brice got out of trouble and taylor stunk! Like you said Taylor’s time should be up.

Yup! Some on the board were ok with Taylor. I knew he would blow it in a tense situation like this. Not surprised even the least

Oh well, time to watch the Oilers beat the Canadiens.

I hope they do. In hockey I dislike Montreal as much as I do the Yankems.

Except for maybe the first 3 losses, this one seems to hurt the most.

It’s been one ugly game. 2-11 (so far) with RISP hadn’t helped either. This would be a true team loss.

what was the point of using a weak LHP against a stacked RH bats?

it doesn't make sense.

In 2018 it probably would have worked out for Cora, because in 2018 most everything worked out for Cora. Unfortunately, this isn't 2018.

Agreed. For some reason oilers struggle with them. Grrrrr. Currently 2-1 Montreal

Oh boy. Come on Verdugo

More help from the Jays.

It would have summed up the night perfectly if that misplay had bounced back into fair territory with Verdugo standing around the plate.

I still like this SOX offense. They should be even more entertaining as the weather gets warmer. Of course, pitching is a concern.

Agreed!

Richards had no idea where he was throwing the ball tonight. It was alarmingly bd for a major league starting pitcher.

He’s look really bad so far this season. Way too many walks.

We probably should have expected a moderate period of time for Richards to find a groove. It's been many years since he's pitched a significant amount of time. As bad as he has looked, it has mostly been for just an inning or two per outing. He's looked good in many innings.

Yes, I'm grasping for something to be positive about with him, but to me he still represents a better hope than Perez and maybe even Pivetta.

I'm glad we have Houck and eventually Sale, and word is they are stretching out Whitlock, so maybe there is hope, even if 1-2 out of Pivetta, Richards and Perez do poorly going forward.

Couple things that I took away:

Richards: Overall, I've been really encouraged by what I've seen from him. It's like he needs the first couple innings to warm up. If he could pitch like his last 2 2/3 innings last night all the time, he would be a halfway decent pitcher for us.

Bullpen: Other than Taylor and sometimes Ottavino, our bullpen is much better than I anticipated, and much better than I think most people around the league realize and are giving us credit for. Sawamura and Valdez continue to impress. We had no business being in that game, but they kept us in it. At least until Taylor in the 9th.

The team in general: Boy do these guys fight hard. And because they do, we will never truly be out of a ballgame. If we think about it, the only game we lost in a blowout was Richards' first start against the O's. Since then, we've overcome poor starts from other pitchers besides Richards as well. Our last 4 losses were games that we really had no business being in, for various reasons (poor starting pitching last night, as well as last Thursday in MIN, and then great starting pitching by the White Sox in the two games on Sunday). But yet, we took them down to the 9th and made them earn it. We should be a gritty team, even when things don't go well. The only problem with that, however, is that it will usually leave some of us feeling that we could/should have won those games. Xander in the 5th, Dalbec in the 8th just last night. We were right there. We had no business winning that game, but there we were with multiple chances to take a lead. You just have to remember that we won't win every single one of those games. That's baseball. Even the best teams lose 60 games per year.
