Very impressed with houck tonight. His slider had bite and his fastball had some movement!

I think bringing him for a few starts this year was a good move.

Definitely. Not like we have much to lose

Everything about it is manageable. I kind of like it actually. I pick when I work on stuff, and I can take a break to watch a quick TV show or go to the gym or something. The only negative that is prevalent is the loneliness. There's days where I don't talk to anybody face to face, other than my parents. Not all days are like that though

Man that actually doesn’t sound too bad! Some people struggle online, but if you can handle it that sounds like a much better way to be. I know I like working at home (granted my kid can be a pain) sometimes being trapped in a single class or office can get so frustrating.

It was definitely easier in the spring, because most professors kind of gave up once we got sent home, but there's definitely worse situations to be in right now. I'm a straight A student in a stable home with a job waiting for me after graduation (that won't be impacted by COVID). It's all about perspective

Tanner Houck gives the Red Sox best debut by a starting pitcher since Eduardo Rodriguez (7 2/3 shutout innings) on May 28, 2015.

Tanner Houck: “Right now, I’m kind of high on life. That win was truly amazing.”

Deserves to be on cloud 9 right now. Fantastic pitching.

We got a shutout. Weird.

Who'd have thought that we'd come out on the right end of a pitcher's duel? LOL

Good game. Some good defense in the game.

I know people on here pan Devers' defense, but when he made that really great play at 3B the Marlins announcers were saying "we seen great plays like this from Devers before."

Early on, I was hyper critical of his D, but he has shown signs of being a plus defender.

He needs to improve his throwing accuracy and consistency.

He still needs to work on his footwork.

I am no longer advocating a switch to 1B, but it is not yet out of the question.

He showed enormous strides on D, last year, but got off to a bad start, this year.

He's a really great defensive player 6 days a week

Ya totally!! Nice to see. Maybe build on for the future. If this guy is anything what he was last night, he could be a hidden gem. Tough to get excited from one game though.

Yes, I heard that comment too.

He makes some really spectacular plays that are Gold Glove caliber, but then he'll go and boot an easy one. As others have said, too much time to think.

Yeah, we tend to get excited, which there's nothing wrong with, we just need to keep in mind he has a way to go before we really know what he's going to provide for us.

two on and no one out. Bogaerts, Martinez, Vaz up. All righties on a lefty with a 6.27 era. Not only do we not score, but we failed to advance a runner a single base. Pretty sad and Martinez has now fallen to a 200 BA.
