AJ Pollick and Seager be the trade with some filler ? AJ swing looks kinda like 15 and I would love to see Seager buggy whip the s*** out of balls out of Fenway. Edited by Swiharts Ghost

It is official. The Sox are NOT rebuilding. Rebuilding teams do not DFA Denyi Reyes while keeping Ryan Weber...

You're really making me root for Ryan Weber.

Right. And how many years are we away from renaming the Cy Young the Ryan Weber Award?

Were you a bully in grade school by any chance?

He’s clearly making the team. He has no options and therefore if they don’t DFA him, he has nowhere to go but Fenway.

I am surprised. I am well over 100% confident Weber would clear waivers if DFAd...

I’m 5’7”. People of my stature are not bullies.

(Also Napoleon Complex is a complete fake. Napoleon’s stature was normal for his time.)

Weber can actually pitch in the majors. Scouts have stated that Reyes stuff is like purely based on location and that he'd get whacked around in MLB.

His BB% has double since getting out of A ball. 2019 was a step back for all of his numbers. I'm not sure he could provide anything for BOS over the next few years.

Also, it's clear that Bloom values Webber. Not sure why it upsets everyone.

It's obvious Bloom has reserved a place for Weber on the 26 man roster.

I think a big reason is he is at best a marginal talent. He pitches to contact and gives up a lot of hits that don't leave the ballpark, so his peripherals do outperform his performance, but really, he needs an elite defense behind him to be effective and the Sox simply do not have one.

He has only had an ERA below 5 once in his career in a season with more than 4 IP, and even then it was a 4.76.

As he turns 30 this year, he is not ikely to suddenly morph into anything better, whereas younger pitchers like Lakins, Poyner and Reyes did at least have a chance to improve....

Maybe Reyes has a distracting nervous tick that nobody would like?

So Weber is basically Reyes, but with MLB experience then?

I believe Poyner cleared waivers.

The Rays have always done a good job not getting hosed on their prospects. I'm going to trust Bloom on this one. It's not like we have a stocked farm system and losing prospects 30 and beyond would hurt much.

I think I have to have some trust, but I also find it odd he is unloading all the younger RP arms and replacing them with older pitchers jettisoned by other teams like Hall, Osich, Springs, and Mazza. And I'm not sure what to make about Austin Brice yet, although he was good last year (although he outpitched his peripherals)...

Maybe Bloom has scouted the Sox farm and doesn't like what he sees? Maybe he thinks certain players can pass through waivers? Who knows.

If they are playing a modified Rays ball right now, I have to give him a season or two before I freak out about it.

At the end of the day, trading Lakins for a PTBNL has little to no impact on the club.

Redsox are air tight no leaks. The Mitch thing was talked about by this board but didn’t hear anything from The media .I like the direction so far but until Mookie is addressed for the fans we are on hold .Not a popular opinion but I’m ready to move on from Mookie . Edited by Swiharts Ghost

Well, nobody leaked that they offered $300/10 to him until now. Nobody has leaked about the coaching hire. Seems like this is the new normal. Rather than running to Henry's paper, they are just handling their business in house.

Anyone have any idea we inked Mitch and not Thames for essentially the same contract ? Thames seems like a healthier ball player am I wrong ? Mitch has a better glove ?

Thames has been a much better overall player than Moreland the last 3 seasons, with a 4.9 fWAR to 2.3 fWAR advantage over that stretch. but it is possible that the Red Sox did not know how 1B was going to be handled by the time Thames signed his deal. Maybe they wanted to leave it open in the event that dealt Price/Eovaldi/whoever for a bad 1B contract? It is also possible the Sox tried to but were outbid by the Nationals. Just some possibilities.

Thames deal is for a guaranteed $4mill...

This sounds very plausible.Mitch seems to be pretty predictable too .I have to think this is a true tag team with MC .Hope he kills it this year .

Because Mitch has been around for a few years, is a known quantity and a guy everyone likes? There weren't too many other LHB platoon options available and the price seems pretty attractive to me.
