I don't think it'll honestly impact Cole too much. He was going to get a shitload, he's still going to get a shitload Edited by Jasonbay44

Who said salaries were going to go down?

Yes, attendance is down. Yes, viewership is down.

But, this game is still a massive cash cow to the owners. They could have paid these salaries over a decade ago and still made insane amounts of money.

I'm no economist, but if attendance is down and viewership is down, how can salaries keep going up?

Because the owner decided he'd make 150 million, instead of $180M, this year.

Plus, when he sells the team he makes a windfall profit that is ungodly.

That's certainly the way it's been going.

My only point is that all the revenue comes from the fans, so if the attendance and viewership keep declining, something's gotta give.

It may be more nuanced than that. Attendance declining can be offset by higher ticket and concession prices. Lower viewership does not seem to be translating to lower TV deals between teams and networks.

Giants acquire Zack Cozart.

I wanted nothing to do with Cozart as an addition, but I do wonder what the Giants are thinking here after already having Cueto, Longoria, Posey, Crawford, Belt, and Samardzija making 8 figure salaries and not producing.

And then probably wondering why they can’t afford Bumgarner...

Wacha, Lindblom, and Roark are off the market.

Roark got 2/$24mill. But Lindblom and Wacha got base salaries around $3mill with incentives...

Mets talking to the Astros about Correa, if they make a trade sending Thor to Houston, they will effectively replace Cole. They can unleash his potential

If the Mets are trading for a short term, win now asset like Correa, why would they deal Syndergaard?

The Marlins signed Matt Kemp. Their next move is obviously to hire a Shaman priest to animate his zombie corpse.

Miami is close to Haiti...

That White Sox team is headed for a much improved standing in 2020.

Rotation of

Giolito

Keuchel

Gio

Lopez/Cease

Kopech

Lineup of

C Grandal

1B Abreu

2B Madrigal

SS Anderson

3B Moncada

OF Jimenez

OF Mazara

OF ??

DH EE

That’s a good team. Getting Grandal helps with their young staff. Adding Keuchel brings in a veteran world champion innings eater. With the Guardians retooling and the Twins potentially bei a flash in the pan, the White Sox are clearly threats to make the POs.

If we had that starting rotation, you'd be bashing it to the moon and back.

[h=1]I think these acquisitions will be complete flops for the Twins. Hill is targeting the second half of the season for a return. With his history, I would be surprised if he came back before September. I also expect that Bailey will spend more time on the DL than on the active roster.

Twins Sign Rich Hill, Homer Bailey[/h]By Jeff Todd | December 31, 2019 at 11:07am CDT

The Twins have pulled off a fascinating New Year’s Eve double-strike. The club announced that hurlers Rich Hill and Homer Bailey have each agreed to contracts, as Dan Hayes of The Athletic first reported (Twitter link).

There’s a lot to process here, even before learning of the contractual details of this twin bill. More than anything, it’s a highly notable development for a Twins club that entered the offseason promising to add impact arms to their starting staff.
