Just the case of being a sports team's "fan" includes an inherent personal bias affecting clear thinking about their situation. Add to that personal emotions about one player's performance vs another further clouds clear thinking. Hence, the clarity of advanced analytics. If only someone would tell the players to consistently exceed their historical performance level personnel decisions would be much easier.

Yeah, the analytics keep getting better but the players seem to keep getting more fragile and harder to predict LOL

So, trading him rather than non tendering may just happen.

Did that article suggest trading JBJ for Jake Marisnick?

And Houston does that why?

No, it suggested we might trade for Marisnick separately.

Marisnick is the Astros' best outfielder, so I can see why AC would want him. He's also their worst hitter -- think Bradley, without the power -- and was on deck when the Yanks chose not to pitch around Altuve... and I still can't believe that decision. And neither can Yankee fans.

But I'd take him, if it meant keeping some of our other stars around.

Yes.

Maybe, Brian Johnson & Shawaryn for Marisnick (one last arb year).

He has improved while JBJ had declined (on offense):

.Jake:

.607 2013-2016 (1038 PAs)

.728 2017-2019 (812 PAs)

Jackie

.548 2013-2014 (530 PAs)

.834 2015-2016 (891 PAs) .728 2013-2016

.727 2017-2019 (1643)

Does Bloom have a suggestion box? This needs to go in it...

I think this is the first time you haven't ripped one my trade ideas.

I think it’s the first time you only had two teams involved.... ;)

Or, 3 or less players! LOL!

(I actually thought my offer was light, but it is just for one year of JM- projected last arb year cost $3M.)

Because they are silly.

True. I should have guessed once they decided to name the team after George Jetson’s dog...

Joc Pederson is the player I target .

I like Pederson, too. And I think the “can’t hit lefties” thing is overplayed. But he’ll be making like $5mill next year and isn’t likely to be an option unless someone gets dealt...

Could we get Pederson for Price & Betts with no $$$ going to LA?

No? How about Betts, Castillo & Eovaldi?

I don’t think anyone wants to take on $96mill worth of Price just to get $30mill worth of Betts.

If you were the GM of the Dodgers, would you do it?

The want a ring badly.

I'm flashing back to them taking CC to get pretty highly paid AGon & Beckett.

But, hell no, they won't do it. Maybe if we threw in $10M x 3 years.

And think about what the Sox got back in that deal.

Allen Webster, Rubby de la Rosa, Jerry Sands, Ivan DeJesus Jr. and James Loney.

Yippy...

Now I do look for Bloom to raid the Rays’ farm system for maybe some unprotectables. My guess is he does a deal soon for someone like Garrett Whitley or Lucius Fox (played by Morgan Freeman)...

Well, Webster and DLR were supposed to be decent players, and we actually dumped 2 players (CC & Beckett) with AGon. In that year, those were a lot of dollars and years left on those deals.

Joc’s inability to hit lefties isn’t overblown. The guy absolutely cannot hit lefties. He’s a platoon player

I said the same about CC when we signed him.

You are right, .572 means you should not play vs LHPs, but he's still worth getting.

All the Sox got was budget. The player who played the most games for the Sox from that deal was Loney...

Right. What I was referring to was not letting his ABs vs LHP be an obstacle.

In fact, I’m all for giving players like Pederson reps vs LHP. Sometimes these skill gaps come from way too much platooning...

I get that, but at the time, Webster & DLR were projected to be decent ML pitcher. It just didn't work out that way.

He only has started less than 10% of his games vs lefties, so you may be right (476 to 49 GS'd). He's basically played 5 seasons and only has 377 total PAs vs LHPs.

Besides, I'm fine with platoons, and it's easier to find a matching player who hits lefties well and can defend the OF for real cheap.
