We have 2 major league arms in our bullpen, Workman and Barnes, and I would not be upset over losing either one next season.

I don't see how Workman could be any better in the pen than he has been so far this season. He's the only one in the pen I would be upset about losing.

Thats Porcello's ERA with the Red Sox. In five seasons. Thats why he needs to be DFA'd in the middle of a game. I would allow him to throw one pitch in his next start then come out and get him and DFA him.

Agreed. Bases loaded and instead of Mookie we get Owens. That one is on Cora

It doesn't matter. In fact, its good to see some of the Pawtucket guys coming up and getting a little chance to play. It sure better than watching the guys trying to imitate a baseball team for the first 120 games.

The Sox are 90-61 in games he’s started for Boston. Yes, he’s gotten some insane run support but the bottom line is they win at a 60% clip when he starts.

So on what line do you put the 4.89 ERA?

I don’t. It’s not good. But for whatever reason, they win when he pitches, and in pro sports, that’s the bottom line.

Cashner needs to throw 12 straight scoreless innings to get his ERA down to that range...

I think we all agree that Cashner is worse than Porcello. That's like saying being murdered is worse than dying in your sleep.

You know better than to use W-L record to judge a pitcher's performance-either his own record of that of the team when he pitches. Its probably the WORST data point to use. He has been, overall, awful for the Red Sox. I will not miss him next year.

Until this year, he has basically gone out 33 times a year, usually gone 6-7 innings and on average allowed 3-4 runs a game. In other words, he’s gone out and given his team a chance to win the game, which they have done 60% of the time. I’m not sure what you expect out of a guy who’s a #3/#4 starter.

Yes he has totally sucked this year; there is no sugarcoating that. Unlike you, I am not going sound tough by saying I’ll embarrass a guy by DFAing him in the middle of an inning. You want to totally lose a club and make sure no one ever wants to play in Boston again, be my guest and do it.

Are you serious right now? Wins and losses are the WORST to measure how good a pitcher is. Any avg pitcher would have that record pitching for the Sox given the run support he has in his starts

And that’s exactly what he is, an average pitcher. See post 105 for more.

Well nice to see this is still the same Angels team even without Mike Scioscia at the helm. They never seem to change and they never bring in players that would allow them to change.

They can hit and in some years they could pitch a little. But the rest of their game is just awful. They just blow games left and right.

If I had to guess, the Angels will come back and tie this again, only to lose in the 8th or 9th to the Sox. It won't get to extras IMO.

Only dif is that you could see the steam coming out of Scioscia's ears and Brad is not really that sort of Manager.

Albert really can't extend his arms any longer. I don't know what they did to get him back onto the field after his back injuries. Maybe spinal fusion because he sure swings like a guy with spinal fusion surgery.

Well that was predictable. Still think the Sox win this either in the bottom of this inning or in the 9th.

Blown save, Matt Barnes.

The Reds just released David Hernandez, who has some solid peripherals. Yet I bet anything Dombrowski passes...

Meh. The problem isn’t with Barnes, but with this execrable rotation. The bullpen entered in the 2 d inning and that dinger in the 8th was the first run off them. Cashner was the only bad pitcher in this game, and he was awful.

Barnes is one of our 2 major leagubullpen arms and I wouldn’t care if he left.

Workman is who we need to keep forever. The rest. Meh. Lol
