Some people think the Sox are laid back or don't care, but I think the opposite. I think they have been playing scared for big chunks of the season. It started of course with that horrendous opening road trip out west from which they have barely recovered. But it also shows in how often our pitchers get themselves intro trouble. Erod has faced three batters and has yet to throw a first pitch strike. He's scared to death of what might happen if he throws any strikes. Edited by Maxbialystock

Haven’t we seen that from him before?

This is horrific display right there off what we have seen since late june.

They’re a bunch of underachievers. This team should be better than their record. The pitching coach should be fired right now.

Maybe but they won’t release rodriguez. I just want someone to be shelled for the ineptitude of this team.

I forgot to mention about ERod studying his cap before making his first pitch. A sure sign he is overthinking. The Yankees don't need to look at their caps because everyone on their team knows what everybody else in MLB knows. In the first inning ERod just loves throwing his fastball, which is exactly what Torres looking for.

Interestingly, I think the Sox manager or Bill Davis or the hitting coach has told our guys not to swing at first pitches. Too risky, plus the important thing is to get a walk or at least make the pitcher throw more pitches.

This is what happens when you start walking people and mostly are so shy to throw strikes.

Rodriguez has no guts. That’s been his problem in his career.

Not a hanger, a fastball on the inside corner about waist high. Not a bad pitch except for one thing. It was exactly what Torres was looking for because everyone knows ERod wants to throw straight hard stuff in the first inning. You know, establish his authority.

I don’t think they’re laid back at all. I just think the pitching sucks lol

That 2 run dinger by JDM might have been lucky or an accident because it was a good pitch. Most of Paxton's pitches have been good. Lots of movement and good command. ERod prefers to throw straight fastballs and doesn't have the control to get away with it.

ERod has a well earned reputation for getting a bad case of sphincter-itus when he gets men on base and in scoring position. He becomes desperate to get the 0-0 pitch over to get ahead in the count grips it too hard and tries to nurse it over and most of the league if not the world knows it by now. Nothing unusual in his case. We just have not seen much of it this year because he has been pretty stout and has not faced much of that before the Sox have already given him a cushion of run support.
