Yes he is but Workman should be in my opinion. He’s getting us saves. Eovaldi hasn’t exactly lit it up since his return.

He's still only pitched 4 innings since he was cleared to throw, 1 at Pawtucket and 3 with Boston. The stuff is there, the command isn't. That will come with reps. Right now Eovaldi isn't ready to close,

Workman should be our closer IF the other guys have their most dangerous hitters coming up in the ninth inning. If they are scheduled to come to bat in the 8th, Workman pitches the 8th. You want your best pitcher challenging their best hitters.

I believe its something Francona invented last year or so with the Guardians. I believe that the traditional closer role needs to be revised.

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but Workman is far outperforming his peripherals, to a level that cannot be sustained.

 

He's been awesome so far. Hopefully, he can continue for the remainder of the season. But don't be surprised when he turns back into a pumpkin.

This management team often says something that they go back on a week or two later. It makes them look desperate, which I'm sure they are, but it's not a good look.
