Not sure if good or bad news... But Travis D'Arnaud just hit his third homer of the game, a 3 run go ahead homer off Aroldis Chapman to Give Rays 1 run lead over Yankees in 9th.

I know. I mean, Wade Boggs has had his retired and Dewey hasn't? And I don't mean that as a knock on Boggs.

Boggs met the criteria, Dewey didn’t. I love Ortiz, but he technically hasn’t met the criteria yet either.

Frankly, I prefer the Sox way to that of other teams who seem to retire the numbers of the very good rather than the great.

Btw, the catch Dewey made on the fly ball hit by Joe Morgan in game 6 of the '75 WS still remains the greatest web gem I've ever seen.

Dewey was an outstanding fielder. The first of the really great arms whom I can remember.

I would say bad news. Have to keep winning games and don’t bother looking at the scoreboard.

Am I? I don't know why it happened, but it did. Travis D'Arnaud of all people is 3-3 with 3 homers and 5 RBI, 2 walks and hit the homers off Paxton X2 and Chapman.

Manny was a great hitter and had, at least, 5 grandmothers who died.

Hahahaha,, Yes! The poor bastard!!

Manny may have left on bad note or whatever, but that guy was one of the best hitters I've ever seen in my life and he helped contribute to two world series and was an MVP of one of them. He needs his number retired.

Red Sox criteria includes selection to Cooperstown. Ortiz isn’t there (yet).

Pesky is the only one up there who isn’t, and he was only around the club for what, 60 years?

True. But for Manny, David Ortiz casts a very big shadow.

Pesky has a number and a pole.

That’s what I remember about him most.

Ever seen the you tube video with him talking about the catch in 75? Very interesting about how he basically lost the ball because it wasn’t curving the way it normally would.

I get Manny had his issues off the field and sometimes on the field (defensively), but that guy did some AMAZING things on the field. I wish I could watch him in his prime again. Truly one of the most gifted hitters to ever play the game.

I can remember watching the Opening Day ceremonies in 2005, seeing Pesky raise the banner, and thinking to myself, "That man is having the best moment of his life".

He's sticking it to Met fans. That was the guy they expected but never got. I still think this d'Arnaud 3 HR thing is just a weird dream brought on by an upset stomach.
