The Yankees and Rays are in a pitchers duel in the 7th. Two to one. Would that we had pitching capable of holding strong offensive clubs down like that.

I may be the only one who hasn't given up on Porcillo. I still think he's going to get it together. He seems like the kind of guy to me who's willing to work hard to improve/remake his game whatever it takes.

Rick's career ERA is 4.31 and his WHIP is 1.309. These are mediocre at best. The best that can be said about Porcello is his durability. Btw, no starter on the SOX over Rick's time here has had as much run support as he has.

A 2 inning "rebound" may be all we can expect.

Lol. 6 innings. 4 runs. Guess it’s good considering his last few performances.

We have E Rod. Don’t worry.

That's exactly why I think he's going to be ok. He is what he is - a mediocre pitcher who's an inning eater, and if he's realisitic he's going to get paid like one. If he can do anything at all to reconstruct himself he'll be back.

Fun Fact:

As of right now MC Hammer has more RBI than JD. 52 to 49 respectively.

I’m happy for the guy. He’s had his ups and downs but he’s battled.

I'm still not sure who to blame for that gaffe. On the one hand I want to blame JBJ for not knowing where Chavis is. OTOH I want to blame Chavis for not going full out toward the plate.

Maybe. But the ball looked like it might be caught, no?

Actually I said that the way the ball is carrying now it may be out of here.

It’s on both of them. Bad read by Chavis (wonder if Grichuk deked him). Bradley was thinking triple out of the box but also needs to look up once he hits second.

Yes. Command=location. The ability to throw all of your pitches to the desired location.

I don't think MLB has forced change on the game as much as the game evolving on its own. The commissioner didn't force "openers" on any team; he didn't force the shift on anyone nor did he change the emphasis on HRs and the tolerance of Ks more widely. Thats due to the stat guys.

You neglected the baseball. Who bought the company that makes the baseballs, kept supercharging them 3 out of the last 4 years denying it the entire time? Who changed that...the stat guys? As for the shift...where the shift was going was as plain as the nose on my face. Letting it ride from 300 a year to 8,000+ shifts per year and then having the unmitigated gall to pay lip service to it is a bit more than I can take, tolerate or rationalize. Sorry...just won't wash. I don't remember anybody forcing MLB to spin up its propaganda machine to push power baseball either yet that is clearly what they did.

I understand why MLB or really Manfred did it. I even understand the historical context of why he did it. Manfred has completely misread the historical context that drove him to this nonsense as well intentioned as he thinks he might be. The result is this painfully boring game of HR's, K's, BB's, guys trotting around the bases or trudging back to the dugout and an army of computer geeks with spread sheets that have no earthly idea what they are looking at. Worse than that, ITS NOT WORKING. MLB continues to lose popularity in this country. I honestly don't know what they think they are going to do when my generation starts pushing up daisies in earnest.

In fact, Manfred just sold the stat geeks down the river. One of the most popular pastimes for stat geeks is comparing the year to year or career to seasonal stats for a player. How are you going to do that in the era of the ever changing rocket ship baseball. What are they going to do....kid themselves that those most cherished and most discussed player stats are meaningful when the baseball itself is in constant flux?

IMHO going to a baseball game has now become more about the event and less about the game. I can remember going to Jacobs Field (back when it was The Jake) so long ago that Manny was playing RF there. That was the first time I ever heard rock music being played between innings, and I said "WTF??" Now it's the norm.

I'm one of those who thinks there's a time and place for everything. I like going to MiL games with their kiddies games and promos at nearly every game but I also still think that ML Baseball should be all about the game.

Unfortunately for many reasons :) I'm older and also unfortunately I don't reflect the demographic that MLB wants to attract. :(

Brasier is BP. Dude sucks

He pitched well last night. Like a lot of these guys, he seems incapable of pitching back to back games.

I would not have taken Walden out; he’s capable of going and has gone more than 1 inning; I even thought he might have gone 3 and gotten a cheap save.

I said earlier the Jays don’t quit. Right after they left Boston the last time they went to NY and kept making it close with the Yanks.

Dumb play by Devers.

Agree. The way our starters are going we're going to want people out of the pen who can go multiple innings. This game would be a good chance to stretch Walden out a bit.

I'm with you there. None of the changes they've made to the 'grand ol' game' has improved it. In fact, it's just the opposite.
