This was just an awful loss. at least 4 different times they had a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs and didn't score. Vazquez was horrendous. JD sucked, I have no idea why Price was pulled, Velazquez got hurt and Brian Johnson still sucks.

It will be awful if they don’t win tomorrow. This team hasn’t been able to grab momentum and run away with it. Meanwhile our hated rival just keeps rolling along . They need to win tomorrow.

How the f*** you don’t even put the ball in play with a runner on 3rd and no outs? That’s little league s***.

I think a lot of us were fine with not paying Kimbrel, I still am fine... However, I didn't think Kimbrel would walk and his replacements would be guys like Colton Brewer, Josh Taylor, and Josh Smith level players..

Just would love to hear Cora's explanation for pulling Price. He got lot splaining to do.

I am afraid to hear the answer to that one.

An average closer has a SV% of what? 80%? 75%?

With that percentage we would have had at very least 8-10 more wins this season.

Said that, get a goddamn closer already!

Right, The Sox need to bump all these guys down a notch...

We've gotten lucky with guys like Walden, Shawaryn and others. I'm not saying these guys all suck, but we can'y have 2-3 of them on the 25 man roster all the time.

Tonight, we had these guys all on the staff at the same time:

Johnson

Velazquez

Taylor

Shawaryn (been doing well, but is it smoke & mirrors?)

Brewer (who has actually done better since I said we should cut his ass)

Trade for 1 RP'er now. Wait out Hembree and then trade for another one at the deadline.

Send 2 packing soon.

I believe some of the blown saves were in the same game (two tonight), but yeah, the point still stands. The Pen has been bad in pressure situations late in games.

The Red Sox have 16 saves and 14 blown saves. That is bad.

Many were blown before a traditional closer even got into the game, but I agree, getting a closer bumps everyone else down into a more reasonable role.

I'm guessing Josh Smith was unavailable tonight. Or did Cora forget he hadn't been used? Always a problem when a team has two Joshes.

Unfortunately Josh Smith was sent back down to the minors for Hector Velazquez. Real shame, I wanted to watch Josh Smith and Brian Johnson pitch in same game!

So Cora's answer on Price "we decided we had to take care of him"....WHATEVER THAT MEANS!

when's football season start. I can't wait for BB's press conferences. "We did what's best for the team." I can subscribe to that!

Do we even have a traditional closer? Most of the opportunities have gone to Barnes and Brasier and they haven't great in their chances. Both have blown at least 3 games a piece late.

Didn't he throw 1.2 innings last start? AND he only had 73 pitches? What in the hell does that mean.

Yeah, this BP chokes big time in high leverage situations. They just can’t handle them.

The babying of pitchers in MLB is a JOKE. With all the money they make it's a joke. I couldn't be a former pitcher like eck and sit and watch these guys. I'd puke.

This is probably at least the 5th different game just off the top of my head that Sox should’ve won, and lost due mental mistakes, blowing game late, situational hitting, questionable managing or all of the above. It’s frustrating

Supposedly Cora went apeshit on the umpires after this game. I would pissed too if i had to watch this game and lose it in the end but they have no one to blame but themselves.

We have lost in all posible dramatic ways this season, but tonight was the gem of them.

Weird for a world champion team.

Don't know what Cora was complaining about. Just frustrated I guess. There is no worse place to view the batters box from than the dugout. Whatever Cora thought he saw, he didn't see. As it turns out, he was wrong anyway. Not a surprise considering his view of what he was complaining about.

I do have some advice for those that want to appreciate this game and this is not a direct response to the post I replied to here. Love this game for what it is, not for what its not. It does not lend itself to replay and it never will. Replay does not need to be expanded. It needs to be retracted. Use it for HR's, foul or fair balls, plays at the plate AND THAT IS IT!

This was a terrific baseball game following up another terrific baseball game. No errors over 18 innings, a few great plays mixed in. We lost...It seemed our compete level was very high though. Seemed to me there were more ways to get Beni home from 3rd than we employed. Hopefully, what we didn't do, helps us later in the season.

Thanks, good to know. Well, at least, we have one Josh left, who actually pitched quite well in this game. I understand your disappointment. I would have loved to have seen those two pitch in the same game, also. Maybe it will happen in the near future.

I don’t like it either but given the investment in these guys (in Price’s case, $30M per year), I sort of get it. We all remember the Ryans and Gibsons and Seavers who pitched 300 innings a year for years on end What we don’t remember are the guys who blew their arms out after a year or 2 and were done.

One of the greatest and classiest quotes I ever heard was by Bruce Suter, the great Cubs reliever many years ago. When his arm finally went, people kept telling him how sorry they were. Suter said something like “Don’t feel sorry for me. I had 15 great years. Feel sorry for the kid down in A ball who just blew his arm out and will never get the chance to experience what I have.”

With Price it's simple math. He makes 1 million per start.

Rosario was out of the box. The Twins broadcast showed it and the one announcer said something like “Twins catch a break there”. It’s probably moot though. I doubt Brian Johnson was going to win that game anyway. He would’ve needed to get out of that inning and pitch at least 1 more.

He apologized afterwards. He said they made the right call.

Actually, no he wasn't. You can see it clearly in the slo-mo that NESN just ran as they swallowed their anger and realized Rosario WAS NOT out of the box.
