Really I did not know that. I try not to make personal remarks but in your case I'll make an exception. You are needlessly ignorant and rude. This isn't a question of pitchers vs position players. The manager didn't play his veteran position players as much as the Sox did in the years past. It was just more noticeable with the starting pitchers to those who weren't at ST because they were so horrid the first two weeks of the regular season.

Oh how do I know the regulars didn't play as often. Besides being there in 18 as well as 19. If you had checked you would have seen that a comparison of the 2018/19 stats show that Betts Beni Bogaerts JD Martinez and JBJ all had fewer plate appearances in 19 than they did in 18. Betts 15 fewer Beni 4 Bogie 6 JD 4 JBJ 3. I didn't check every position player because these demonstrate the point. Given that position players regulars only average 2 or at most 3 PA per game in ST this represents a considerable percentage of less game participation than in years past in each case.

In all cases the implicit message was we don't need to work as hard as last guys because we won and we are so good.

Well, I just disagree that giving guys a bit more rest in ST is the same as telling them they don't have to work as hard this year.

Most of those differences you cited are pretty darn small BTW.

Actually the percentages are quite significant when one considers how few games are played and when they are played and against whom. A case in point, three at bats against a club's best AA prospect is not the same as three at bats against a club's ace or nbr 2. Moreover I can tell you this ST was the most laid back of any of the five that I have been to. Those of us who were there knew that Boston was in for a tough start because of the way ST was conducted and said so. It was common discussion in the stands.

Wasn't Betts dealing with an injury?

I don't think 6, 4. 4 & 3 less PAs in ST'ing by four of our players ruined their April.

if i had to guess it was more of a "mindset" than anything. we just came off a parade and were busy jerking ourselves off. perhaps not enough work was done in the offseason because of this? perhaps the focus was not fully there during ST and teh first few weeks of the season? perhaps the slap in the face that a .500 record at the begininng of June will help to refocus us? WTF Cora should have flipped the postgame spread weeks ago.

we need to feast on the KC's of the league and pile up some Dubs.

25 games remaining in June with 9 against inferior opponents (Jays, O's, KC, ). 3 with the White Sox, although trailing Minn by 11 1/2 , are 29-30. There are 4 games with the Texas Rangers who are actually nominally ahead of Boston for the second wild card at 30-27. The remaining 9 , however, are against teams with current better records and above us in standings in the AL (NYY, TB, Minn).

If there is progress to be made, these games need to fall 16-9 in our favor. Get 7 from the weak ones, get 4 from WS/TX, then 5 of 9 from the leaders. Doesn't sound dominating but do it first or improve on it if the Sox can. Be nice to see Sale get 3 of those wins, and Eovaldi with a couple. Price can do 3, Porcello and Erod get 2 each, leaving 4 come from behinds for the bullpen to rescue.

I can see this team going on an absolute furious tear and on the other hand, I can see them doing what they have done vs Cleveland, which is basically choking away the season. June definitely needs to be a few steps in the right direction. 16-9 is not too much to ask when you factor in the opponents. The SOX need an 8-10 game winning streak somewhere in June-July. Dunno if that is realistic for this years club but man would it make things easier for the stretch run. Any word on Moreland?
