    • 61-70 wins (They really suck, but not as much as the O's)

    • 70-80 wins (Competitive but I still enjoy watching them get destroyed by my team)

    • 80-90 wins (I expected this team to suck but they're kinda sorta good?)

    • 90+ wins (Every other team must really suck for this team to be so good)

With the start of spring training right around the corner and so many free agents left unsigned, I wondered what it would look like if we created a team solely out of the best remaining free agents. I kept it simple and just used projected WAR to determine the top players:

Starting Lineup

1. Josh Harrison 2B (1.2)

2. Bryce Harper RF (4.9)

3. Manny Machado 3B (5.0)

4. Mike Moustakas DH (2.8)

5. Marwin Gonzalez 1B (1.8)

6. Adam Jones CF (1.2)

7. Carlos Gonzalez LF (1.3)

8. Jose Iglesias SS (1.7)

9. Matt Wieters C (1.3)

Bench

Denard Span OF (0.6)

Martin Maldonado C (1.0)

Yangervis Solarte 1B,2B,3B (0.7)

Rotation

1. Dallas Keuchel (3.3)

2. Brett Anderson (1.3)

3. Clay Bucholz (1.0)

4. Gio Gonzalez (0.8)

5. Ervin Santana (0.7)

Bullpen

Doug Fister [6th SP/Swingman] (0.6)

Blake Wood (0.1)

Aaron Loup (0.1)

Ryan Madson (0.1)

Tony Sipp (0.1)

Bud Norris (0.4)

Jake Diekman (0.4)

Craig Kimbrel (2.1)

Not a great looking team but certainly not terrible. With a total of 34.5 WAR, they're projected to be the 17th best team in baseball (just ahead of the A's and behind the Reds). So what did I learn from wasting half an hour doing this? Even thought we keep hearing about how terrible this free agency has been because the top several guys are still unsigned, there really aren't THAT many quality free agents still out there.
