He is making the adjustment: Duran has 10 hits in his last 16 at bats at Portland.

Admittedly, Duran will probably need another year in the minors, but it is conceivable that if he continues to hit in Portland, the Red Sox could move J.Bradley in the offseason, free up 10 million, and start Duran in CF next year.

He has a .591OPS in AA. Maybe wait for something more than 4 hot games before penciling him into your squad. He's a singles dependent burner. He needs to work on his plate discipline and his K's. He's trending towards a Dee Gordon 2019-lite player and that's a minus or flat WAR guy.

I doubt Duran ever makes a ML splash.

I think we trade JBJ and sign or sign or trade for a cheap, defensive CF'er.

We may also try to move Chavis to LF, if Dalbec or Ockimey convince management they can play at the ML level next year AND we look to cut salary in 2020.

Ockimey has shown nothing in his promotion. Dalbec has been slumping and has a huge hole in his game. I doubt either one breaks camp in Boston in 2020. I think JBJ gets DFA'd. He is making big money now and arbitration never goes down. Nobody is gonna want him with his defensive metrics trending down and his offense cratering at a big salary.

It'll be interesting to see what the Red Sox do with D.Hernandez next year. He looked dominant last night against the Yankees. Do the Red Sox see him as a long term starter or reliever?

If having an .818 July OPS is "slumping", I'll take it! Dalbec is doing fine.

On Ockimey, I'm not sure I'd call .766 in his 90 games at AAA "nothing" this year. He also has 17 HRs and 32 XBHs in just 282 ABs. He was very raw when we got him, and the thought was he'd take longer than normal to develop. I'm not saying I have high hopes for him, but he has shown power in an era where power rules.

I had thought (hoped) he'd replacePorcello in the rotation, but the pen may be a better fit.

Dalbec seems like the typical low avg good obp big slg/ops and a ton of whiffs kinda hitter. If he can tighten it up a bit more they can Put him @1b. Not sold on Ockimey yet. Really either one yet but Dalbec seems more likely to me.

I think JBJ will not be offered arb or traded and Beni switching back to his normal cf position. Jury is still out on Duran. Has had a solid year all around and an MiL AS appearance this year, but I still haven't jumped on his bandwagon just yet. Casas is another interesting prospect to watch. Lots of power there, and really a solid all around game. Another corner guy. We have a bunch of those types right now.

We still have some good talent in the upper levels on the farm. Some interesting names in the lower levels to watch too. My only complaint is Id like to see more homegrown starting pitching.

Our current roster is filled with young, mostly home grown talent position players that have been steadily coming up since 2013 with lots of success and We have a top payroll to sign a lot of them. I really like the future for the Sox.

Last 30 days hitting .116.

I think Dalbec will be gone this next week. Reason, he'll never beat out Devers, and 3rd base a better sell then 1st Baseman. Otherwise, it makes no sense keeping him there.

How many HRs?

If he's over .800 for July, my guess is he is not at .116 the last 3 weeks.

I agree that Dalbec is the guy who could be traded. But I wonder if DD likes Dalbec more than Chavis (DD drafted Dalbec, he didn't draft Chavis) and as such maybe Dalbec stays and Chavis is traded. I would also think that Chavis, since he has had success at the major league level, would bring back more in a trade than Dalbec.

With Moreland and Pearce moving on after this year, and Chavis showing he is not horrific at 2B, we may hold onto Dalbec as a possible cheap solution to the 2020 and beyond 1B issue.

We showed we can get Cashner, Eovaldi (last year) and Reed (2 years ago) without giving up our best and nearest ML ready prospects. I think DD will do the same this summer. Dalbec will not be traded.

I mentioned this in another thread, but I like the idea of trading Chavis or Dalbec to the Mets for D.Smith. The Mets don't have a spot for Smith, whereas they could use Dalbec at 3b. The deal could be expanded to include a rental like Wheeler.

PORTLAND:

Another two hits for Duran (remains hot).

Three hits for Dalbec.

Another excellent start from Mata, 5 innings, 2 BB, 8 Ks. Mata is only 20 years old. I just hope DD doesn't trade him--he is the Red Sox best SP prospect in a long time, maybe since Lester? I might be forgetting someone.

Another two hits for Duran last night, batting average up to .257. If he continues this type of hitting in August, the Red Sox have a new starting CF next year, and Bradley gets traded. Duran will be the 9th hitter in the order, but the Red Sox are going to have an awesome lineup next year and can carry a ninth hitter. Duran will likely struggle for a period of time as he adjusts to major league pitching.

Duran won't hit as many HR as Bradley, but he can match Bradley's batting average and he has more speed than Bradley. Bradley has limited trade value, but due to the dearth of quality CFs, someone will be interested in trading for him. The Red Sox would free up around 10 million in payroll, money that, in turn, can be invested in a free agent starter or reliever.

How the ever living f*** are you touting Duran as a 2020 big league starter when he can barely OPS .600 in AA. You're such a hypocrite ripping prospects outside your organization then ejaculating over any of your own guys making moves. Or in Duran's case, showing a glimmer of life in what has been a lifeless AA experience. Duran may end up a CFer in the majors. But he is ticketed for AA again next year and maybe he ends up as a big league bench bat/speed demon at the end of 2020 if the sox are in the playoff mix. He isn't gonna be a big league regular option until 2021 at the earliest, and that's assuming he doesn't entirely flame out

Over the last 10 games, Duran has raised his batting average from .229 to .261. He hit .292 for the month of July. If he repeats that in August, I'll go out on a limb and say Duran will be the Red Sox starting CF next year and ninth hitter in the order.

Dalbec promoted to Pawtucket. Lets see how he does after he hit .234 in Double AA. Last night he had 3 K's. in final game, for Portland.

2nd half of season Dalbec is hitting .225, with a .758 OPS in last 41 games.

http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?sid=milb&player_id=666915#/splits/R/hitting/2019/MINORS

He did have a .371 OBP with Portland, this year, so the .234 BA is tolerable.

The guy has 52 HRs in his last 814 ABs, including 26 HRs in 470 PAs in AA.

107 XBHs in those 814 ABs.

Got a hit in his first at bat. Ockimey struck out behind him. That ought to be interesting putting those 2 back-to back. Lot of K's.

Another nice pitched game by Denyi Reyes, 7 innings, 5 hits, 1 Run, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA down to 3.63, after terrible start.

Dalbec 2 for 4.

Ockimey with his 20th HR

Owings 3 for 4 (.974 OPS)

de la Guerra 2 for 4 (.942 OPS)

Houck 2 IP 0 ER (1H 1BB 2K)

Reyes 7 IP 1 ER (5H 1BB 3K)

Duran & Chatham 0-4

Casas 0-4 (.808 OPS)
