Although he missed most of April due to injury, Chad De La Guerra hasn't missed a beat since returning to the Pawtucket lineup. The infielder is batting a solid .298/.322/.456 in his first full season at Triple-A and launched his first home run of the season Monday night. The Grand Canyon University product has steadily climbed the ranks of the Red Sox farm system and now finds himself in the midst of a productive season just one stop away from the major leagues.

Bryan Gonzalez also had a tater. He currently has an OPS of 3.578. http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?sid=milb&player_id=682793#/career/R/hitting/2019/ALL TIME FOR A PROMOTION!

Maybe the Sox want Gonzalez to get between 6 and 10 at bats before promoting him?

Also, De La Guerra is a utility infielder on a good day. But he’s behind the younger Tzu Wei-Lin and Marco Hernandez (who is only 2 months older) on that depth chart...

Duran promoted to Portland. He's jumped 3 leagues in 1 year. Ellsbury did this kind of thing. Last one I can remember. Ellsbury was Drafted in 05, was in the World Series in 07. Hit .438 in that WS, not bad.

Jarren Duran hit 2 HRs in his last year at LBSU and already has 4 on the farm - it's an impressive story. Now as a college signee you expect him to move quick, but getting to Portland already is good.

It'd be absurd to wait that long.

SoxProspects has stated that his college messed with his natural swing. He's reverted to what he grew up with since signing here.

Given the incumbents, I don't think anything that quick happens here ... HOWEVER, like Ellsbury, Duran is a college bat with an elite tool (speed).

Leading off and playing CF for Portland Duran went 1-3. Double AA a lot tougher, this is a good test for him. Holy Smokes Dalbec got 2 walks yesterday. Last 10 games Dalbec is hitting .256 in 39 at bats, 4 HRS, 3 BB's, and 18 K's. HRS look OK, but not the strikeouts.

Dalbec's k's always look like that.

It is the big question with Dalbec ultimately. Can he make enough contact? Being a three true outcomes guy at the plate is fine, but this much swing and miss against guys who are largely not going to make the bigs is a huge red flag. It's basically the red flag Moncada had. Now - like Moncada, maybe Dalbec can make enough hard contact to get by. But the empirical evidence is dicey.

In tater news:

Gorkys had 2 (7 for the year)

De La Guerra had another 1 (2nd in two games)

Curletta (probably in honor of Asche going on the IL)

Wren (5th HR with 14 SB's so far)

Bryan Gonzalez's OPS fell like a rock as he only went 2 for 6 (2.055)

Elio Prado went off having protection from hitting in front of Gonzalez 3 for 5, one tater, 6 RsBI

Duran's baserunning is still unrefined. He could get by on his physical attributes in A ball. He'll have to adjust going forward.

Still wondering when the Sox will give Mejia a chance. His season looks respectable with the exception of one game where he gave up 4ER in 2/3 of an inning...

Plus, yesterday's game.

I doubt we see him unless there's an injury, or it's September.

Why not? This team has Ryan Weber and Josh Taylor on the roster. Demote both (which requires a DFA of Weber, but he will clear waivers) and call up Mejia and Erasmo Ramirez...

Why? Because he's not even near the best guy in the minors, we have Eovaldi returning in less than 10 days, and Mejia just plain sucks. The only thing he has going for him is ML experience, but Poyner, ERam and others do,too.

I'm not sure when (out-of-options) Brian Johnson is going to be ready.

True, Poyner has a WHIP if over 1.50, while Mejia's is under 1.25, but I'd take the lefty over Mejia, for now.

Poyner has a WHIP of 1.50 and also a BABIPA of .312 and FIP of 4.77.

Mejia has an FIP if 3.51 and a BABIPA of .338.

Mejia is doing a better job of controlling what he can, but is getting burned by his defense as shown with his higher ERA and BABIP. You sure Poyner is better?

Yes, I showed that Poyner had worse numbers.

I'd still go with the lefty.

Recovering from TJ, Rays #2 Prospect, Brent Honeywell fractured his right elbow, in a BP session. He'll miss the rest of this season, too. Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.
