ND actually looks like a juggernaut with a defense loaded at the front lines and finally a QB who can throw an accurate pass short and a respectable deep ball. Wimbush has the speed and the arm, but his accuracy and decision making were not going to carry us to the promised land. I do not, under any circumstances, want to see Bama before the finals. If we both get there, then game on. But I would rather see if someone else can knock them off. Outside of a sleepwalk half vs the Citadel, the Tide look absolutely unbeatable, even against the best the nation has to offer. Part of me wants to see Georgia win vs Bama, but the ensuing bedlam could set up a 2 vs 3 matchup with us facing Bama in the first round which I wouldn't want to see. But it could also set up a Clemson vs Bama first round, which I would much prefer over seeing Bama first and not seeing the title game. I think we can take Georgia. Heck, we almost took them last year with Wimbush at the helm and a far inferior defensive line. But I also think Georgia is gonna get racked by Bama

I'm not really sure why Clemson is ahead of ND. Who have they beaten that is any good?

They squeaked by Texas A & M and Syracuse.

We killed Syracuse and beat Michigan, N"Western, Stanford, VA Tech and Wake & Fla ST who aren't total patsies.

Big win for the Irish.

Here's how I'd think they will rank them after this weekend:

1) Alabama (Plays Georgia next week)

2) Clemson (One could argue ND played a tougher schedule and deserves the 2 slot.)

3) Notre Dame (Win vs Michigan not so great looking now.)

4) Georgia (Plays Alabama next week.)

5) Oklahoma (Plays Texas next week and makes it with a win and Georgia loss.)

6) Ohio State (Plays N'Western and needs GA & OK to lose.)

7) UCF (QB out- tough luck.)

8) Michigan

9) Texas

10) Florida

What would happen if Georgia beats Alabama?

1) Clemson

2) ND

3) GA

4) Ala

5) OK/Ohio St

If Alabama wins, it looks like Oklahoma goes over Ohio State (and GA), assuming both win their conference championships.

Irish finish up the regular season undefeated at 12-0. Not really one of their better games . USC sold out to stop the run , and Ian Book's limitations were on display. Wound up being a hard fought win against the hated Trojans. It really doesn't make any difference if they are ranked second or third. Have to beat Clemson either way . In my opinion, Ohio State deserves to be rated ahead of Oklahoma. Both have one loss , but the Buckeyes play a tougher schedule in a tougher conference. However , I think the committee will favor the Sooners. Regrettably , I just don't see how any of them have much of a chance against Bama. The Crimson Tide would probably give a couple of the weaker NFL teams a battle.

Some of Ohio State's wins were very ugly. They barely beat a bad Nebraska. They got lucky vs Maryland. Beat Penn St by 1.

I'm not sure their schedule was tougher.

OK beat...

UCLA

#25 IA St.

Lost to #14 Texas

TCU

OK St

#13 W VA

play #14 Texas again

Ohio St. played

Oregon St

TCU

Indiana

#12 Penn St

Lost to unranked Purdue (worse than a loss to Texas)

Mich St

Maryland

#4 Michigan

Okay , but a win is still a win . Alabama is about the only team that dominates every game. Oklahoma was fortunate to squeak by Army in overtime. Ohio State was impressive yesterday. Like I said , I expect that Oklahoma will get the last playoff spot when Alabama beats Georgia.

It's pretty close between Ohio St and Oklahoma, and with OK playing Texas next week, who is better than N'Western, I can't see Ohio St squeaking in without help from Texas.

The only reason I mentioned the #2 and #3 rankings between Clemson and ND is if Alabama loses to Georgia. That would make ND or Clemson #1 and their opponent would be different.

Clemson

ND

GA

AL

or

ND

Clem

GA

AL

is a big difference as one team plays AL in the first round.

I doubt Georgia wins, but still...

In the extremely unlikely event of a Georgia upset , Alabama probably drops to number four. Clemson would then be number one , and would have to play Bama . N.D. would play Georgia , and Oklahoma would be out of luck.

I agree, and it is good for ND to avoid Alabama in the first round, but I'm still not sure why Clemson is ahead of ND. Who have they beat?

Clemson beat...

#22 Texas A & M (by 2 points- will be higher ranked now after beating LSU)

#20 Syracuse by 4

Wake by 60

NC St by 34

So Carolina by 21

Louisville by 61

GA Tech by 28

FL St by 49

GA Southern by 31

Furman by 41

They play #21 Pitt next week.

ND beat...

#4 Michigan by 7 (will be ranked lower after loss this week)

#19 N'Western by 10 (will be ranked higher this week)

#20 Syracuse by 33 (will be ranked higher)

#24 Pitt by 2 (lost to Miami this week)

Stanford by 21 (was ranked when we beat them)

Wake by 29 (a decent team)

USC by 7

Va Tech by 22

FL St by 29

Navy by 22

Vandy by 5

Ball St by 8

I hope Oklahoma makes the playoffs as #4 as I hate OSU and especially Urban Meyer. Plus, Kyler Murray and Antonio Browns cousin are outstanding players and fun to watch.

I hate Oklahoma & Ohio St.

Who makes it, if Georgia, Oklahoma and Ohio St all lose?

I can't see UCF, Michigan or Texas making it.

Well, Alabama's comeback made sure ND won't face them in the semi finals.

Hard to think Georgia doesn't belong in the 4, but Oklahoma squeaks in again. I can't see Ohio State passing OKL, even if the blow out N'Western.

Clemson is up on Pitt right now. UCF won a wild one, but has no chance.

Assuming Ohio St and Clemson win, here's my final rankings (not what I think the polls will show):

1. Alabama

2. Notre Dame (Clemson will be #2, if they beat Pitt)

3. Clemson

4. Oklahoma

5. Georgia

6. Ohio State (assuming they win. They will probably be ahead of GA.)

7. UCF

8. Michigan

9. Florida

10. Washington/LSU/Wash St.

2. Clemson

3. Notre Dame

4. Oklahoma

6. Georgia

8. Michigan

9. Washington

10. Florida

I keep seeing all these "talking head" trying to say Ohio State should be in over Notre Dame. If that happens I'm done with College football. Notre Dame beat Northwestern and Michigan (without Ian Book and Dexter Williams Ill add) just like Ohio State, and Notre Dame doesn't have a 30 point loss to f***ing Purdue on their resume.

Notre Dame's other wins are way better than Ohio State's.

Even though some of these teams are not currently ranked, they were when we beat them or were in the top 25 at some point this year.

Yes, Notre Dame beat #7Michigan and #21 N'Western, but we also beat....

Wake Forest by 29

Va Tech by 22

Pittsburgh by 5

FLA St by 29

#20 Syracuse by 33

USC by 7

OK, Vandy & Ball St. were pushovers, but I would argue that ND has beat better teams than Clemson, and could/should be ranked #2. No way does Georgia, Oklahoma or Ohio St. have a claim against ND.

Some of these jerks just have an anti Notre Dame bias , and it shows. The undefeated Fighting Irish deserve to be in the playoffs. The fourth and final spot comes down to the Buckeyes and the Sooners . Oklahoma will get it , but you could make a case for Ohio State. Eventually, the playoffs will expand to six or eight teams.

I'm SO disappointed OSU are out... (not). I really hope ND or Oklahoma can pull off mission impossible here, but I'm sure we'll have another Crimson Tide championship shoved down our unwilling throats.

Yeah, right.... :D

Well, ND almost beat Georgia last year, and we're better this year. Georgia came close to beating Alabama, so there is a sliver of hope.

USC has sucked donkeydick this year and they need to fire Helton in the offseason. The line play for USC has been really bad and the team doesn't stretch the field or run the ball the way they should against inferior talent.

USC announced on its Twitter account that offensive coordinator Tee Martin, defensive line coach Kenechi Udeze and defensive backs coach Ronnie Bradford are no longer on the coaching staff, joining offensive line coach Neil Callaway, who was let go after eight games this season.

It was not a fun year to be a Trojans fan.

It should be fun to watch Daniels and St Brown play pitch and catch for the next few years. Not sure a backfield of Carr and Malepeai gets it done though.

Agreed. I'm glad the Trojan's demise happened in the year we really needed to beat them.

If they keep Helton around for one more year (it looks like they are going to do that at this point) you should have another easy go in 2019.

I'd like to see the field expand to 8 to get less debate over who's left out.

It without a doubt needs to be increased, but the problem is the players really don't want it to happen, especially if they aren't getting paid while the colleges rack in millions. There has been way too many injuries in bowl games that have cost or nearly cost players career. Marcus Lattimore was considered to be a generational RB, college injuries ruined his career. Jaylon Smith suffered a horrific leg injury vs Ohio State a few years ago and went from top 10 pick to 2nd round pick, and just this year finally has gotten back to where he nearly was.

Even this year, Nick Bosa, projected top 5 pick, was hurt early in the season, he told OSU he wasn't going to play the rest of the season to preserve himself for the NFL. Star Corner for LSU Greedy Williams is considering sitting out the bowl game as well, he just declared for the draft.

I'm fine with 4, but 8 would give us 4 more meaningful games.

I really don't think Ohio St or UCF can say they deserve to be #1.

The system was designed to not leave out anyone who has a claim to the championship not to let teams with no claims have a chance at upsetting a big team and win it all with 3 straight upsets.

Most players play a conference championship game. If they eliminated those games in favor of going to 8 teams, then I don't think players or coaches would complain, but then you lose a lot of big game money for those extra games not played.

And here's to the Black Bears from U-Maine. Best of luck next weekend in your semi-final championship game next weekend.
