Of the 4 major team sports, the baseball all-star game, good, bad, or indifferent, is still better than the other 3's.

Disagree. I think the NBA All Star Weekend is way more fun and entertaining.

It's cool to see our guys get recognized, and it does still seem to hold real weight with the players (see the clubhouse going nuts when Moreland was announced, or the residual chip JDM seems to carry on his shoulder from being snubbed in previous years), but other than that I find it difficult to care much. Would rather see Sale and the others get a few extra days of rest if it was all up to me.

Having grown up at a time when the NL was dominant and we all rooted for the AL (I was crushed when Amos Otis' throw didn't get to Fosse before Pete Rose did) I still watch because I remember when it was a big deal. It's no longer a big deal but it's still fun to watch the best. Besides I have a secret, I really enjoy watching Judge throw a baseball with an effortless move that looks like a lob into 2nd but is traveling 100 MPH.

Well I have no interest in the other 3, so I couldn't really say.

My son, a complete sports enthusiast, loves the basketball all star festivities.

I think it's fun, and I agree that it's cool to see our guys get recognized, though I'd prefer they get the rest as well.

The whole thing about using it to determine home field advantage was really stupid though, IMO.

I definitely agree with your son. Of the 4 major Sports in the US, I'd rank them in terms of all star events

1. NBA

2. MLB

3. NHL

4.NFL.

I think NBA has far and away the best, MLB is 2nd, NHL 3rd... and NFL's is just awful.

I don't care about it whatsoever. Having the WS tied to it didn't make me care about it anymore. It was ruined by interleague play and Selig's boner.

My thoughts exactly.

Have YOU voted for Benni?

I don't know how many times a person can vote for a player but I probably voted 40+ times.

I had not cast an All Star vote in decades and now regret casting multiple votes for Jean Segura, who could probably stand a rest instead of flying across the country for the chance of one at-bat.

The slug known as Bryce Harper seems awfully happy for a guy batting .214. This is a player who is very easy to dislike. The love child of Roger Clemens and A-rod.
I was at a season ticket holder event where President Sam Kennedy stated that the Red Sox would be interested in Harper.

If the powers that be ever do a DELIVERANCE 2, Harper would be perfect for it. That guy just screams DUELING BANJOS.

Yeah he does have a purdy mouth.

Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!1!

I suspect that he is an entitled little turd. I've "followed" him since he was 14.

I think he is a self absorbed twat.

I wish Paps had done him in.

When was that?

In any case, I want no part of him. He makes my All Macholo Team.

I don't like Bryce Harper and I couldn't care any less about the HR Derby usually, but that 9 HR in 50 seconds to come back and win the Derby was kinda cool.

If there has to be a HR derby, I believe the fair way to declare a winner is to have all 8 hitters go two rounds and whoever has the most HR's after those two rounds wins. If there's a tie, then those hitters do a 2 minute round to determine a winner.

With the ASG no longer tied to home field in the World Series, am I the only one who could give two shits about it? If I’m Boone, I stretch Sevy to that final game vs Cleveland so he doesn’t pitch. Chapman should also use his knee as a reason not to play. I hope Judge also takes some time off too. I legitimately could care less and would rather my guys get the rest. Do Sox fans feel the same way?

I did not give two shits about it anyway.

I like the general idea of doing something radical like the NHL has. Not sure exactly what it would look like.

Once upon a time the ASG was played as a matter of pride by the players to prove their league was better than the other. The gams was played seriously and was good entertainment because it was played seriously. Now we've come to a time where that pride of league pretty much doesn't exist and the game is almost played with the seriousness of the celebrity softball game. Just a gathering of super rich people getting together for a pick-up ballgame. Unfortunately, if one wants the game to be played seriously now, money has to be involved. Perhaps if the players on the winning team each receives half a million dollars and the players on the losing team get nothing, the game would probably be played with more seriousness. That's me definitely being cynical, but I really believe it, seriously. Edited by SPLENDIDSPLINTER
